    Transmission Fluid Question

what's Dexron 4? Use DexMerc, Dex6 or Ford Type F All prev versions of Dex apart from DexMec and Dex6 are obsolete and out of production, AFAIK.

    Best rebuilt th 700R4?

Nice work, @EvilGenius! Thank you for all the views - appreciate it :favorites13: Appreciate the support, @Broken85! I can build you a nice 700R4 for around that ballpark, largely depending on how you drive the vehicle...Depending upon what part of the year your 84 unit was built, you may...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

That should definitely help and make the whole powertrain perform better. The TC produces most of the heat that permiates through the transmission so tuning should help bring the heat down a bit. Plus full synthetic is perfectly fine up to about 220 or so, perhaps a bit beyond.

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Try to keep temps at 175-180 or so for optimum performance if running conventional Dex-Merc. Check for any restrictions in the system, in the lines, and coolers. As far as the harsh 1-2 shift, that could be overly agreessive mechanical calibration such as 1-2 feed orifice drilled too large for...

C3= communication, command and control. What exactly are your line pressures for all range positions at idle and at stall?

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Perform a driving line pressure test. Short shifts and TC shudder is likely low LP across the board, which is probably C3-driven. If LP is low, contact the company that man'ed or sold the controller for tech support, if you havent already done so.

    700R4 Transmission Questions/Issues

Another possible idea - overhaul the transmission. It's shot. Not sure why you refuse to believe or accept that but common sense is telling you to yank it, throw it on your tear down bench and go through it.

    700R4 Transmission Questions/Issues

Yank it for overhaul. Install 97+ 4L60E bonded pistons and corresponding ret spring assy in the forward drum. Ensure the pump is vacuum tested, particularly the pressure regulator valve. Let us know what you find once it's torn down.

There seems to be a leak in the manual low circuit as 110 PSI is too low if that reading is at full TV, per my guide. Ask the trans builder if he installed a Sonnax o-ringed reverse boost valve (I think the ratio is .283) - the o-rings seal off an otherwise worn bore where manual low pressure...

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Looks nifty. So the mechanical side of the box uses a cable to connect it to your dash while an electrical cable goes from the other side of the box to the VSS? The box then converts the VSS voltage vehicle speed signal to a mechanical output to the speedometer in your dash's gauge cluster?

4l80e conversion in 1985 suburban. What parts do I need?

Please tell me you're joking...I'll buy that. Why do you need to keep the mechanical speedometer? You're much better off simply putting your cell phone in a holder on the dash or windshield somewhere, bringing up the app Waze and using that as your speed indicator. You can also run a Dakota...

    700R4 Transmission Questions/Issues

Perform a line pressure test - see my 700R4 Information Thread on how to do this. You're flying blind without knowing where your baseline transmission pressures are at the current TV set up and adjustment. If your line pressures are within spec, drop the pan and see what's at the bottom...If...

Id outsource the bushing R/R to a shop...Alternatively there is a dedicated Kent Moore branded bushing service set, J-21465-01 for TH400s available on eBay from time to time. It's not cheap but will allow you to r/r all the bushings. Get a Th350 pump bearing and a couple shims (.010, .015) for...

To be clear, you have NO 3-4 upshift? If so, check the 4th gear servo piston's scarf cut sealing ring - it's on the inside of the servo cover. If that's in good shape, drop the pan, VB and see if any valves are sticking (3-4 throttle valve/spring/sleeve and 3-4 shift valve, 3-4 relay valve...

    Buying a rebuilt transmission th350

Don't know the answer to that until you post the build sheet so we can see what was installed. If it's a purely stock rebuild with none of the requisite updates that need to go into all TH350s upon overhaul, then yes - $750.00 is too high because you'll be into yours for less in parts once all...

I'd definitely rebuild your existing unit if the guy wants $750, unless he has paperwork showing exactly what was installed, all the parts that should have been installed were installed, when the work was performed and how many miles at the time of the rebuild as well as a means for you to...
