    Need a starter heat shield...

Well, it turns out that it was the wrong one and wouldn't fit (thanks anyway, 74Blaze!). So, I still need a shield or 2.

Ok. That's one possible. Anyone else?

    Need a starter heat shield...

I'm looking for a starter heat shield for a 1991 C1500 4.3L. The original part number was 10468258, but it was discontinued long ago. It will look something like the attached pix. I could even use 2. Thanks!

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I can't believe we're still on this. I only meant to clarify what I said. Didn't need research with photos and more 'expert' comments from other forums. We differ on opinion, which was stated several posts ago. I'm getting the impression that you are a last-word-kinda guy. You can have it...I'll...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Just to be clear, I NEVER said to whack the tank with a rubber mallet. Hand slap only. It doesn't take much.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

Nope, I was referring to a side tank, specifically the left side. I don't recall where the connector(s) was on a dual tank setup. When I referred to 'B+' I meant the power supply circuit, not the terminal position. Now that I think about it, seems like the connector is near the switching valve...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I detect a note of sarcasm there, Ricko1966. Lol. Believe this: If I were losing fuel pump sales because I slapped tanks to get them running, I most certainly would not have been doing it. Have a fun day!

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

They might go away (their option, of course), but I doubt most would. But how often is a customer standing there when you're diagnosing a no-start? The vehicle almost always comes in on a hook and then waits its turn in the parking lot, which is likely hours or maybe even a day or so. And even...

Hard Start when engine is warm.

So you have some mods to the fuel system. What kind of fuel line do you have? I had a truck once that had the same exact problem. It had a rubber hose (not by my hand!) from the pump to the carburetor. I replaced it with a steel line and the problem forever disappeared.

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

The connector for the tank unit. It should be accessible through the LR wheel well. The connector and the ground are attached to the top of the frame rail. Check the terminals and make sure they still fit snugly. I usually jump at the relay. Just disconnect it, make sure the B+ is hot, and...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

I think you're barking up the wrong tree trying to check ALDL circuits. Except for checking for trouble codes, you can pretty much ignore it unless a trouble chart sends you there. The code 44 just means that the ECM believed the system was running lean. I don't think it's going to be of much...

    1987 Silverado fuel issue

When you initially turn the key to the run position the ECM will only power the relay for 2 seconds and then will shut off. To power it again you would need to turn it off, wait approximately 10 seconds, and then turn it on again. The ECM will provide constant power to the relay when cranking or...

What are your favorite/ best looking valve covers for SBC?

When I saw the thread title I immediately thought of these and wished I had a pic of a motor I used them on some years ago. Kinda surprised they're still sold. Excellent valve covers, but don't forget the PCV baffle! . Never did like chrome.

What should I sell engine & tranny for?

If you're ok with $500 then give him a try. The worst thing that can happen is he may say 'no'. I'm guessing he'll counteroffer. Ya know, it kinda irks me when someone gives advice on something that they know nothing about. So I must say that it has been a LONG time since I bought or sold a...

Are these the originals from that truck? How many miles?

Brand and Ratio for Ring and Pinion Gears?

You are right, Velder: The higher the number, the more fuel you will use. Why are you changing it? Is there something wrong with the gears or ratio you have now? If it's "just going to be a light duty run around truck, maybe towing a light trailer on occasion", you don't really need much gear...

    Small Block Lifter Premature Wear

Wow, new rings with only 2,000 miles? Was there an issue there, too? That lifter wore out so fast that I would think a mechanical cause would be readily apparent. If not, my best guess would be improper break-in procedure. Did you use a cam break-in lubricant? You might take a look at ET...

    Speedometer and Odometer quit

If the cable is intact, the next place to go is the driven gear in the transmission. Very easy to remove and inspect. Might also make sure that it is the correct one. Years ago I had one that the speedo bounced a lot in. The gear looked ok but turned out to be the wrong one.

    TBI Issues

I really need to write some info on these distributors and modules that I can copy and paste into these threads instead of writing it fresh every time. 'bout time to go. Good luck and have a fun weekend!

    Burning Oil At Start Ups

That's certainly one way to go. Might get away with it if you put a lot of miles on it and keep the oil burned out of the exhaust. Low-mileage, city driven vehicle will damage the catalytic converter sooner.

    TBI Issues

You put a new distributor in less than 5,000 miles ago and now you're considering putting another new one in? I've seen a few ignition modules that caused continued injector pulsing after stalling. Every time it was a Wells brand (aftermarket) module. Been a long time. Surely they've fixed that...

    Burning Oil At Start Ups

Every GM truck I've had smoked on cold start. Valve seals every time. I have 2 right now that I need to put valve seals in. GM only been in business for 100+ years. They'll build a better valve seal someday.

    TBI to Carb 1991 V2500

The original thread post was "considering changing out to Carb and HEI in the future just for ease of service\roadside repairs", not about "drivability and reliability". Each system has its own advantages and disadvantages. I personally would be hard pressed to change from one to the other for...

    TBI to Carb 1991 V2500

I agree that TBI is almost bullet proof. I love the Quadrajet but wouldn't swap from TBI on a daily driver. Easy to work on and pretty much trouble free, as long as you stick with GM factory parts. I've probably worked on thousands of these and absolutely love'em. I've seen in this thread and...
