Can't get rid of play in the steering

I have not had a chance to crawl under and watch as I've been moving, but will do next week. I put the impact on the other end of the pitman arm, but not the castle nut on the other end. @erikm00 , I've got coil springs up front, but good tip.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I did. I thought as much re: steering box. I was hesitant ordering the cardone, but it's not like there are a lot of choices.

77 C10 blower motor fuse keeps blowing

Any ideas? It runs for a couple of days, then blows the fuse. Tested everything I could think of with a multimeter, everything reads fine. I came across some post about a resister in the relay being a culprit, but there doesn't seem to be one in my relay.

    Caster settings 1977 C10

I know, but I'm not concerned about inside wear on the tires I've got. They aren't great, I don't mind if they wear a bit faster. I'm not going to put it back, I want positive caster.

    Caster settings 1977 C10

They were different, but I'd say maybe 1/2" on the back, and 3/4" on the front bolts. I'm going to worry about camber less, I'm pretty sure I have fatigued springs so next on the list and should help camber.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I can turn the steering shaft and see the pitman arm is not moving. I still suspect the cardone steering box.

    Caster settings 1977 C10

Gotcha. I had negatove caster so it definitely wasn't right. Can I adjust the shims with it on the ground, or should I jack it up some to take weight off?

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I don't have one, so wrench and jackhandle breaker bar.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I will try that. I tightened it by hand, not impact.

    Caster settings 1977 C10

My original numbers were -1.1 and -.4 caster. Camber is -2.5 and -.4 Toe was set at .15deg and .23deg So to clarify, the video I found that said shims on the back increase caster is the opposite of mine? I couldn't find one that was specifically on a C10. EDIT: The car was a 69 GTO if that...

Can't get rid of play in the steering

Steering wheel play before it responds. Wheel bearings have been replaced, didn't affect steering play Correct, they have not been done yet. I ordered the ball joints, but do not have them yet. I adjusted the steering box correctly, I had learned about that before I replaced it.

    Caster settings 1977 C10

Yes, I am guessing. I'm asking so I can make it a good guess so that I can drive it until I can find a shop willing to do it without charging an arm and a leg. I don't have a flat driveway or garage floor or I would do it the ways the videos show, but I figured there was a possibility someone...

Can't get rid of play in the steering

I've been working on my steering system as I've been able. Cannot seem to get the play out. I have replaced: Rag joint Steering gearbox Pitman Arm Idler Arm Tie rods Upper Control Arms. Rebuilt the power steering pump I also had to replace the ignition rack and sector gear, which means going...

    Caster settings 1977 C10

While they didn't come out and say it, I got the impression that neither shop wanted to do it and would charge me a lot if I made them. The second place, that did the toe (for $70), gave me the numbers it was at (not good, like -1.1 / -.4 caster) which explains why over 50 on the highway is a...

    Caster settings 1977 C10

Hi all. Does anyone know the caster specs for a 77 C10? I replaced my upper control arms and I'm trying to get a baseline setting. I did my tie rods previously and two alignment shops told me they won't do the caster/camber for less than $150 and that they'd have to order shims. I had one do...

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

I used a combination of the video above, and this video Both are replacing the same thing, the steering shaft U-joint, but it covered what I needed. However, both videos missed putting in the inner race on the outer bearing during reassembly. Didn't film it I guess. Also, for some reason...

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

Thanks. Tilt pins are out (assuming these are the pressed in ones. I made a makeshift puller with an 8-32 bolt, wingnut and a 13mm socket), lock cylinder is out, sector gear is out. I even got the broken rack out. I unscrewed the tilt lever when he did, prior to removing the sector gear and...

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

So I have been using this video to get an idea of what I have to take apart It's a later model than my '77 but I don't know what year. He's got his wipers and dimmer switch on the column which I don't have. I got as far as 5:30. Took out the tilt spring. I cannot seem to get the collar...

Thank you. Part number helps a lot. I'll just follow the video I found and if I gotta keep taking stuff apart, I'll just keep going.

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

Thanks. Does anyone have a good youtube tutorial for this? I looked but could only find a video for a later model. I searched some threads here for ignition rack, it seems like people are describing taking more apart than the guy did in the video I found. Though I couldn't really tell...

    '77 C10 350/TH350 ignition problem

Hi all. Have an ignition problem I don't know how to solve on my 77 C10 with tilt steering. I replaced the ignition switch a few months ago. The other day at a store, I got in to go home and the key turned all the way, no ignition. So I had to unmount the switch and manually operate it. Got...

Looks like I have to rebuild or replace my 350 in Houston area

I picked it up today. The AC is recharged, will have to wait and see if any leaks out. If it does, I will probably take it to the guy who installed my conversion. It's hard to start, and I replaced the battery the first time I picked it up. Also idle is set pretty high (by ear, I don't have a...
