Well, nothing has changed unfortunately. I did get the block, the crank and the pistons to the house. I wrapped everything in saran wrap and put a trash bag over them for safekeeping. Hot rod it’s getting the 350 out of my old 85C 20. And then the 84K 10. It’s currently at the machine shop getting punched out 30. I did a valve job Seals and springs on the Vortec heads last week. The noise I’m describing is not normal. It was idling at 1400 rpm and tapping like the piston was hitting the valve, extremely fast and loud. I still can figure out what that was- 1low4x4

Well I got the exhaust valve out, well, it wont actually come out, it gets hung up at the end. The intake, and the exhaust on the next cylinder I cant even get compressed, at all. That’s where she’ll stay in the corner. That thumper cam and lifters are easily reusable, but that’s 283 needs a stock cam. Bout to work on the valves to see if they’re bent- 1low4x4

Well, I was wrong, I knew I didn’t remember putting sealant on the head bolts, but that was because they already had them on out of the box. Got to looking closer and it wasn’t coolant. It was just the same old rear valve cover leak on both sides. All the lifters look like they just came out...- 1low4x4

Going to pull the offending side head off it today with my nephew to see what’s going on, I half expect piston to valve contact what with all that tapping it was doing on the way home. And I’m not really sure what was causing the 1400 RPM idle. Almost like it jumped timing. Btw it’s not rotating...- 1low4x4

The Tremec TKX. Got a quote from Silver Sport Transmissions today, for the unit, crossmember, bell housing, and a bunch of other ****. I’ll have to buy the hydraulic clutch setup a little later on, before the install. Hoping to pull the trigger on the trans stuff by Tuesday- 1low4x4

Massive amounts of work to get this crusty exterior ready for assembly. Scrubbing everything with degreaser, I already had ARP head bolts in, had to get all the old coolant passages sealant off of them. Had to use aircraft paint remover on the block and heads to get two layers of red and one...- 1low4x4

I should add, I went to measure the cylinders and could not find my micrometer. Went to AutoZone and O’Reillys just now, they don’t have any. So I took the new piston, 4.030 and stuck it on the block. Does not fit lol. Just wanted to check that by the off chance that somehow I put 4 inch pistons...- 1low4x4

Well, unfortunately, that camshaft is not available until April so back to the drawing board. Lots of people have recommended the XE 268H, I just don’t want that damn much lope. I really hate this thumper cam cause it has to idle so high I bought 8 new pistons just to be sure- 1low4x4

Called Howard’s today this is what they recommended. Said nice upgrade over the comp 206-2 I had, and not stupid crazy idle like the thumper I’d like to go roller, but I just can’t afford it since I’m about to buy that Tremec 5 speed- 1low4x4
