    Bed question

Actually, if I'm reading this correctly, LMC has them. I do not remember seeing fuel allowance on both sides last time I looked. Guess I can make a dual tank stepper knock-down kit... Nope. I’m reading it wrong. Literally says “without fuel hole.” I’m an idiot. Never mind.

    Bed question

Early trucks had exposed gas caps. Later trucks had them behind fuel doors. So is that different on steppers? If not, was there an overlap where they switched sides with exposed caps, or had the door before the change in sides?

    Bed question

Makes sense. As I understand it, short bed fleetsides with dual tanks are kind of an oddity, so I can imagine stepsides were just that much rarer.

    Bed question

Hey, all. My Big 10 has a 6.5' fleetside bed, but I really love the look of a stepside. I know I can swap over, and I know many of the vendors our there sell everything I need to build my own stepside from scratch. Here's my issue: my truck is dual tank, and I intend to keep it that way. But as...

I'd guess coincidence. My issue was caused because they changed the clutch and flywheel, so they had all that apart.

Help ID-ing and sourcing a part

@squaredeal91 No, I don’t have pics as I have not started the job yet. I want to make sure I have the parts before I start the job. However, @legopnuematic did indeed find the part I’m looking for. I’m not a huge fan that they seem to no longer be available… Do y’all know of a workaround if I...

Help ID-ing and sourcing a part

Hey all. I just noticed the rubber of my driveshaft center support bearing is shot. Before it gets any worse, I should probably fix that. The truck is a 78 short bed with a 350, a Muncie SM465, and a 12-bolt. While doing some YouTube research on how that’s done, I’m seeing there is some sort of...

It was the inspection cover or something inside the bell housing. All I know is it was a quick fix.

I put on a new Holley Q-jet and had her running pretty well. Just needed some fine tuning. Then the ignition switch disintegrated. All of the plastic in this truck is JUNK. Now that I have some money and it’s not hotter than the fires of damnation, I’ll probably get out there and swap out the...

Nope. Muncie 4-speed. And it was the inspection cover.

He had you add a fuel regulator on a carb? I would suspect a needle and seat or a float if a carb is flooding, unless you added an electronic fuel pump with a higher output that the mechanical pumps. If you are using a mechanical pump, the needle and seat should be enough to stop fuel flow, as...

    Sliding rear window gasket?

So the aluminum brightwork window in the Big10 there at the bottom is dealer option style? That looks like what mine has.

    Sliding rear window gasket?

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. My 78 needs the rubber, felts, and latch replaced. I also picked up a slider off an 80s model from a scrap yard. I see rubbers like the one above that state "fits 84-91 OE sliders", so my question is this: Is there a difference between 73-83...

@JBswth, it was the inspection cover, apparently. They pulled the cover to check inside the bell housing area, found nothing of concern, put the cover back, started the engine to use a stethoscope to track the sound, and the sound was gone. The only thing we can think is the cover was put on in...

    Carb question

Do you have a picture or two of how this is done? Will I need to purchase a OP switch? I’ve seen a few threads around about converting Q-jet divorced to electric choke. Is that what we’re talking about?

And that’s it? There’s nothing else to do converting from divorced to electric?

    Carb question

I’m gonna revive this with another question. @Paladin, since you encouraged getting a Holley, maybe you can help. Everyone else, feel free to chime in… I’m replacing the tired slobberjet with a new Holley 4175 Q-jet style unit. It has an electric choke. I need a suggestion of where to look for...

She’s home. It was the inspection cover of all things. They went to go scope it. They took off the cover, the noise went away. They put the cover back on and it stayed away. Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions and help!

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

UPDATE: I went to the shop and talked to the owner. He agrees that it’s unusual that a healthy engine suddenly starts making noise after having work done. I found a video of my truck running the last time I had it running and showed him. He said he will personally check it out. Fingers crossed.

I’m gonna see how much integrity the shop has. It’s still over there (it’s been a hell of a morning), so I’m gonna talk to the owner about having them double check their work, looking for something hitting the block or bell housing, as previously discussed. If I have it towed home and I discover...
