That's another angle. Mabey most are just not able to chime in because they got nuffin! I actually don't have much to add myself. I am actually here asking questions! :) But I have proven that 8-9* of timing does make a difference. Adding a TB spacer and pod spacer adds a little. Now, thanks...

I saw the video link in your signature about about two days ago. I checked it out. As far as others not chiming in, I chalked it up to lack of interest.

Pretty sure whoever I got the heads from tried to build a race motor with these heads. They are 14102193 if I remember correctly and definitely have beehive or some type of race springs installed. I wonder if they would handle 1.6 rr's if I upgrade my stock pushrods?

So you are taking my current heads into account? I hope so. I am not sure I will be making a change like that soon. So a 1.5 ratio rocker arms, but rollers. I had to study and build up the courage to do my gears myself. Turned out to be such a fulfilling endeavor. Gave me a sense of pride...

You know, I rebuilt the TB a couple years ago and don't remember the color of the spring. I have the Vortec fuel pump on my wish list.

Good food for thought... and action! I failed to mention I also have added a TB spacer and pod spacer. Both worth it to me. Little gains add up.

I think I am moving in that direction! I blew my 76cc's on a 118* day trip from Cali to AZ (think they was blown when I bought the truck). Stinking thing made it all the way and then hydro-locked in my driveway!! But I was just looking for some used replacements and was not sure about the bottom...

I did a gear swap. 3.73 to 4.56 on 33" tires (may potentially go to 35's). Yes, more zoom off the line but still slow. Advanced the timing to 9 degrees. Now its moving even better! Way better. Not a race car but I love it now.

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Looks like he found a truck and started a new thread: https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/finally-did-it-bought-a-suburban-what-now.40039/

What have you done to your square lately??

I agree. I believe tire condition - dry rotted, old, and even larger than your steering can handle - will contribute as well.
  12. SubDominant

What did you pay for a square

    I know your pain. ;)

Finally did it! Bought a suburban, what now?

I'd say drive it a bunch to shake it down. You will discover what needs to be done that way. You are in for a fun adventure. These trucks are awesome to drive. If it were not for the price of fuel  I'd be daily driving mine. I am a mechanical repair first guy. Then I go for cosmetics. But...

I want to drive an '89 suburban 700 miles home, what should I know?

Any updates?? Got my interest! I road tripped mine from San Bernardino to Phoenix with a blown head gasket!! I think I wanted one so bad I sort of ignored the warning signs. Was 118* in Blythe that day by the time I went through. 5 hour trip took 9 but this beast chugged its way there...

Lund(?) Visor and rear Air deflector

When I had my windshield replaced on my suburban I had to take the visor off. Honestly, I like it better without the visor so I am selling it. Looking to get $150 plus shipping. Also have the rear chrome spoiler. I have the pedestals to mount it. Looking for $75 plus shipping.

2001 Yukon 2nd and 3rd row seats in a square body Suburban

On to the front backet mounts (again, mock it all up before bolting anything in place): I used shallow strut under the front mounts to space where I wanted. You may choose another option if you want. Notice that the seats fold down nicely. Another shot with bottom folded up:

The second row does fold down. I should have mentioned this earlier but you want to make sure that they have room to do so while you are mocking everything up:

More pics of how I mounted the rear: Center mount where both seats come together: In this pic you can see the angle iron, and the mounting style. Notice cross bolts that connect both sides of the 2nd row together. THIS IS A CRITICAL CONNECTION in lining up your seat directly in the middle of...

2001 Yukon 2nd and 3rd row seats in a square body Suburban

So if you go back and look at post #5 you will see the pic of the interior with the seats out. You can see the cargo area and then where the seat should be. You should notice a 90 degree angle between the top of the cargo area and where the seatbelts are mounted. Just below the seatbelt mounts...
