    Header installation

Exactly the kind of info I was looking for Catbox. I guess I will just drop the original single exhaust and start plugging away. I have the thick gaskets and ARP header bolts. These area used Facebook marketplace purchase but the part number relates to square bodies so here's hoping! Thanks...

    Header installation

Thanks Doppleganger, good info. I guess I will just dive in and see where it takes me, and see what if anything needs to be modified. The headers are supposed to be for this style of truck I just didn't know if being a 4 speed makes a difference. Brad

    Header installation

Hello all. I am planning to install some headers on my 1979 C10 which has a four speed. Are there any obstacles that I should be aware of? Thanks Brad

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

The transmission I have has three grooves in the input shaft, I believe this denotes a 3.50 first gear.

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Thanks Double dingo, Winter is setting in here so in the next month or so I will yank the engine and tranny. Going to freshen the 350 bolt on the tranny and then see what I run into.

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Thanks for all of your replies fellas. I do have a bellhousing from the Muncie we put in my sons Nova so that is all good. Seems to me the biggest issues may be the crossmember, finding a yolk for the Saginaw, perhaps driveshaft fitment and replacing the tunnel. I have heard that these are...

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Your right, it wont require rocket science, just wanted to ensure I was missing something that others have, exactly why I am relying on some of your expertise to avoid issues when I do the job

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Honestly I have heard different stories from various people, but the consensus is you dont want to throw a bunch more than 300 hp through them. Other than that they are fairly reliable minus a bunch of clutch dumps. I know the three groove is a 3.50 first and believe you are close on the other...

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

The three groove is the one I have found, I believe I have 3.08 gears in the back but have yet to confirm. Sounds like you had that combo dialed in. I know these Saginaws dont like too much power but the muncies and t-10s were like 3 times the price!

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

I seen a really cool shifter in a you tube vid yesterday, would be perfect for the truck I think

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Yes I believe this has the 3.50 (3 grooves on the input shaft) I know they are limited as to how much power can be put through them, i,m going to build a simple 300 ish hp smallblock for it.

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Double Dingo; Thanks for the input, The truck is as much for cruising as it is for any type of work detail. I find the only thing about it that bothers me is the 465. Its cumbersome and really just a three speed with an unusable first gear unless your pulling stumps or something similar. I...

Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

Good Morning all; I have a 79 big ten custom with the 465 Muncie 4 speed. I am going to swap out for a car style 4 speed for more cruising functionality and fun factor. I will be rebuilding the stock tired 350 with a goal of right around 300 HP. I'm sure this has been done many times and was...

Changing the stock manual to a car style four speed

Good Day folks; I have a 79 big ten custom , 350 4 speed and would like to know if anyone has replaced the original 4 speed to something like a muncie or Borg warner, saginaw car style stick? What all needs to be addressed in a swap such as this? Thanks Brad

    New To The group

Hello All; New to the group but not to the culture. Recently purchased a 1979 Custom 10 Big 10 Chevrolet truck. In really good condition for the year with the original owner having it until 2015. Also have a 1970 Big Block Monte that I have owned since 1981 and a 1970 Nova, 383 4 speed that I...
