Best lift for all purpose use

I’m very happy with my 2” Tuff Country lift, ORD shackles, and Bilstein 5125 shocks. Plenty of flex off on fire roads and USFS trails and rides nice on the highway, too.

    84 k10 silverado engine decisions

I did a L31R Vortec 5.7 swap in my ‘78 K20 and I would do it again. No regrets. Simple swap, durable with 4 bolt main caps, plenty of power, and good value. https://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Performance/809/12681431/10002/-1

    1978 Chevrolet 350 c.i. V8 from K20

For Sale: Original 1978 Chevrolet Small Block 350 c.i. V8 RPO code LS9 from from 1978 K20 3/4 ton. I pulled this engine from my ‘78 K20 in December 2019. It was running well but I wanted a more powerful, more reliable engine so I swapped in a new L31R Vortec 5.7. The engine is the original...

Rochester Quadrajet $125 - Remanufactured, Purchased from Rock Auto Aug '19

I have a nearly-new rebuilt Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor that I had briefly installed on my '78 K20 before I converted to Sniper EFI. I purchased it from Rock Auto in August of 2019 and had it on the truck until about October. It has less than 200 miles on the engine. It's a 4MV model...

I hear you. Reach out if I can offer any help. What engine are you putting in?

    Adding gauges

Yes, as far as I know it's always been in the PNW. It was originally purchased from Brooks Biddle Chevrolet in Bothell, WA and only had three owners before me. It definitely has some rot but it's not bad. The passenger inner fender is wasted under the battery tray and both front fenders have...

    Adding gauges

Thanks for the compliment! There's lots of pics on my build thread. The color is Hawaiian Blue, RPO code 23. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/1978-chevrolet-k20-build-and-l31r-vortec-engine-swap.27832/ Here's a couple.

    Adding gauges

I'll also add a Vintage air unit in the future which is why I put the switches there and not any gauges. Switches will be easy to move. Those Vintage air units are $pendy! You're probably right about the cost of the gauges. I was patient and was able to buy all the gauges on sale and I think...

    Adding gauges

It’s a vacuum gauge. The oil pressure gauge is in the main dash panel and it’s electric. The vacuum gauge tube has nothing except negative pressure air in it and if it should come undone nothing would happen except a small vacuum leak.

    Adding gauges

Yes, I sourced it from Classic Dash. They also sell complete packages with gauges but I wanted VDO gauges which they don't offer. https://classicdash.com/product/1973-83-chevy-gmc-truck-complete-3-3-8%e2%80%b3-and-2-1-16%e2%80%b3-panel/ I just finished installing a DIN stereo in mine. You...

Thank you, that's exactly what I need.

    Adding gauges

I couldn't find a good solution, either. I ended up going with under-dash for my vacuum gauge, thermometer, and clock. It's not awful but it's not ideal either. They are unobtrusive and easy to see but I don't like the exposed gauge backs and wiring. I had contemplated an all digital dash...

Antenna adapter for '78 K20 antenna to ISO / DIN?

Hi Folks, I recently installed a new head unit that has an ISO / DIN style antenna port. Has anyone found an adapter to adapt the original Motorola style antenna cord to a modern head unit? I've checked Metra and Crutchfield with no luck. Thanks!

Help Needed: Bellhousing Clutch Dust Cover for Vortec 5.7 to SM465?

Thanks, Dan. That’s the one for a later model truck with the hole for the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. That won’t work with my mechanical linkage. I may have to just trim the cover I have to make it work until I can find or fabricate something better. You can readily buy the cover for a...

Help Needed: Bellhousing Clutch Dust Cover for Vortec 5.7 to SM465?

I’m installing a Chevrolet Performance L31R 5.7 Vortec crate engine into my 1978 K20. I kept the original SM465 and bellhousing. When I went to install the starter, I found the stock bellhousing clutch dust cover only fits the two piece rear main seal of the stock engine and is incompatible with...

Time for a crate engine. Suggestions?

I’m hopeful this won’t be an issue for me. I’ll be depending on my truck with my new Vortec L31R with the Chevrolet Performance intake (w/o EGR) and Sniper EFI for cold weather duty. I’ll know when it’s back together and running next week (fingers crossed).

The vendor parts that work, parts that don't.

Thanks for reporting this. I'm glad to hear these fit well. I have a set waiting in my garage that I'll prime, paint, and install on my '78 K20 as soon as I finish my engine swap.
