    LMC Window Seals

So you had trouble with the door seals... apparently too thick? Did you try the window seals? I see in your other post you said you used the window seals.. is that also the problem? too tight, can't roll up/down the windows?

New here, 1976 K10 400ci needs some work

I recently had a lot of work done on the truck. New engine. Replaced the 400 (It had no compression) with a custom 350 cost me about $900. bored to about 360ci, custom heads with larger valves, RV cam, dual plane edelbrock performer intake manifold... seems to have a good deal of power. told...

    LMC Window Seals

I'm also looking at redoing my window and door seals. Do you know what parts you would need? I'm just trying to reduce wind noise at high speeds.

    Where to get speedometer gears?

thanks for the advice. The part in the pic is missing teeth, you can see in the pic the dark part on one of those teeth, that is completely broken off. speedometer and cable work fine, we already did the drill trick. local transmission shop said they can't order those parts, I'll need to...

    Where to get speedometer gears?

Dunno if i'm even calling them the right thing. I have a buddy helping me with this. They came out of the transfer case. The housing part is missing the o-ring, that shaft is missing teeth, and the one inside is also broken..I think he said it was red, but maybe blue. (he told me sometimes...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

Thanks, I still haven't even popped the hood since I last checked in. I've been busy. It is still the original block and for now we'll keep it as is for now and I"ll focus on things that are broken. My dad said he's never had any heat issues with it, and he drove that thing all the time in...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

Thanks for the input guys. I'll take a look at the carb tonight, see which one he bought. I'll also have to look for the freeze plugs, never have before, I might not be able to see them under all the oil build up :p

Body part questions doors cab corners bed sides. Please help

Sorry to hi-jack the thread somewhat but I have a very similiar question, how is the quality on those replacement doors/panels? are they like original? I had heard that those at lmctruck.com and rockauto.com are flimsy and made in china, not nearly as good as grabbing doors/panels off of the...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

Haha thanks, yeah the deal isn't entirely off the table. I haven't discussed pricing but I believe the deal is I trade him the 400 for the 350, my dad says he should do it for free since the 400 is worth more, but i'm sure he'll want some money. It's something I'll have to consider, I'm going...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

I said i'd like to get the '76 up to the speed/acceleration of my '97 SUV, I don't expect them to be the same, even though the '97 is just a v6. gearing in the '76 though is 4.11s, which is probably why it rips off the line but struggles at highway speeds with it's 3 speed. I'm basing my speed...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

hah yeah.. getting some better MPGs would be nice, right now i think i got 12mpg on the highway. $619 new for some vortec heads doesn't sound too bad. the used ones for $200-300 is sounding more in the range i'd look for spending. it's amazing how cheap things are for these older vehicles...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

Thanks for the input, I did a little looking at the vortec heads. Sounds like with the right head/cam/headers/intake you can get 450hp out of them (the article wasn't clear if it was bhp or whp, i'd assume whp) they cost around $800 right, plus the other stuff probably looking at $1500+ to...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

now I talked to someone else who says if its running okay don't worry about, just replace gaskets to stop the oil leak and work on other issues. which it has many of. It's possible the engine is fine. Hmm.. decisions, decisions, where to start, engine rebuild so I know everything is good or...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

Haha, yeah I think i'd like to keep it, the 350s are cheap and everywhere, 400 has some uniqueness and will deliver the power I need. I'm just taking it out camping and hunting, nothing to serious. so even the stock 200hp or whatever it was is sufficient. it'll see some muddy roads and thats...

    350 vs 383 vs 400

So right now I have the original 400ci v8 in my '76. A guy I work with who everyone says is an awesome mechanic has said he'd help me get everything working right again and running well. So I wanted to just rebuild the 400 and i'd like a little bit more power over factory, it does have an...

New here, 1976 K10 400ci needs some work

Thanks, I love this truck. I grew up hunting and camping in it and would love to see it looking like it used to. As far as the engine rebuild goes I'd like to learn how to do it and do it myself. On the other hand I have a guy at work here that everyone says is an awesome mechanic who will...

New here, 1976 K10 400ci needs some work

The tailgate is cracked on the right side and the outside part is bent. A guy said he could fix it up for me though, but it doesn't close properly. I see you mentioned in another thread about locking the tailgate. Is that a problem around there? we've never had an issue with stolen tailgates...

New here, 1976 K10 400ci needs some work

So my dad bought the car brand new in 1975. He loves this truck but he hasn't been able to get anyone to do a good job fixing things as they come up. I know some people who are really good mechanics and they also know some good body guys so I'm hoping to get it restored to like-new condition...
