Coolant and Spark Plug gap questions.

This is precisely what I was after - I wondered if there was a simple and cheap test available to determine if this was the OAT or HOAT formulae; I bought this car from the son and heir of the original owner, they took remarkable care in most aspects of the maintenance - although the son thought...

Coolant and Spark Plug gap questions.

As I recall - '75 was the first year - at least in this part of the world - for HEI across the board, and the big gap was a hope to reduce n0x emissions ('X' suffix). The pressures are fairly high - but the ratio is quite low, so I should be able to advance the timing to 'what the motor wants'...

Coolant and Spark Plug gap questions.

I need some advice on adding/replacing coolant for my 1975 Pontiac Parisienne (‘Cheviac’) and a plug gap query. I have a weep in the passenger side rad tank fitting that receives the upper trans cooler line flare nut; the rad has to come out to re-solder the female fitting; when I complete the...

    Oil leak

A bit late but ~ the Oil Pressure Sending Unit is at the back on the driver's side, if it is leaking it will cause a heck of a leak when the motor is running and can look like a leak from the driver's side valve cover.

    Weird no start

ECM will prevent starting if it does not sense a pressure signal from the OPSU (in later TBI applications) - chewed, burned/damaged harness or tired OPSU; might be the case here.

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

Good information - I usually drive to the A/C Delco jobber about 20 minutes away - I like the staff, they take the time to research bits for my Antiques Roadshow. There are some Autozone stores down along the border ( about 6 hours away) and I will look at ordering parts from the US site - and...

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

I purchased the Spectra HEI GM 14 from amazon ~ despite the poor value of our dollar it was very inexpensive; it took many week for it to arrive and that, in part, explains the lateness of this post. After two weeks of road testing it has passed with flying colours - the box is marked " Made in...

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

SirRobyn0 Thanks for the link - I had been to that page, saw the OBSOLETE but the "Part 8CYL/CCW-HEI" did not sink in - 1103357 may indeed be for a boat - however it has a vacuum advance, something I thought was impractical in a marine application - any road I will call Spectra tomorrow to...

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

@bucket @SirRobyn0 Every bit of opinion on aftermarket parts that I get from this forum is a bonus - I have had some frightening experiences over the last couple of years with 'white box' parts that have spooked me. Spectra products are very common up here ( my rubbish bins are Spectra's) I...

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

Thanks, I have a spare non-ESC distributor somewhere - I will dig it out and see if I can find an application on the net - it was supposed to be for a boat but I doubt it, any tips on installing a "Street Fire" ? It will be about $300 bucks here, I can get a Taiwan special "Spectra Premium...

Engine cuts out - cranks, no start.

1981 GMC C 1500 2WD 305/350THM engine code H. Would not restart when hot (ambient temperature 110 plus) – no tach when cranking hot, 20 minutes of engine cooled down and it started and ran fine. I had an aftermarket replacement coil so I installed it while waiting for the Standard ignition...

    Detent Cable

Thanks, you sparked an old memory! I might adjust the free-play on the cable if required - after I get my new tires; if the trans will kick down at 80, I will not twist my old spine.

    Detent Cable

Very common repair, exhaust stove heat is very important in this part of the world.

    Detent Cable

You answered the question - I have not seen this before, or never noticed it. Thanks.

    Detent Cable

I have a 1975 Pontiac Parisienne – one of the “New for ‘71” bigger better GM B bodies that ended in ’76. As it is a Canadian Pontiac it has a Chevrolet “Power Team” (we used to call them Cheviacs/ Caprisiennes etc.) it this case a SBC 400 Qjet (orange motor) and M38 THM 350 CBC. It has some...

    15s and 16s

Thanks! I have 3/4 GMC poverty caps to modify - I will start the search to determine the cost of shipping up here. This is just what I was looking for.

Are there any bolt on 16 inch wheels that will bolt on the 5 lug bolt pattern? '81 C1500. Thanks.

    Air Filter parts

The Thermac sensor vents vacuum as the Air Cleaner warms up - this reduces the negative pressure at the snorkel vacuum motor and the internal spring (in the vacuum motor) opens the door to allow fresh air to be drawn in - the system is a little counter intuitive but it is critical that the door...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

Do you have images of the casting numbers and the 'pad' number from the block you dropped off for machining? If so, do they match the block you got back? You certainly have a case with or without those numbers; are machine shops so busy in SoCal at this time that customer follow-up fell by the...

Inline fuse in place of fusible link @ junction block pops 40amp fuses

With spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, and vertebral osteomyelitis I finally overcame my 'just walk it off' mind set - got smart(ish), and purchased a "Top Creeper" - silly name but it permits me to get all the way back to the firewall without weeping.

Fast idle after engine is warm..can someone give advice plz

In my experience this it likely the fast idle cam has been sprayed with some lube and is sticking - I have seen this many times in cold (it is -40 here this morn) or warm temps; spray the cam/linkage with carb cleaner and move the linkage - until it is completely free when the choke plate is...

    charcoal ingestion

“When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” A.C.Doyle. Condition: Stumble/stalls/will not restart/fuel overflowing from primary Qjet chamber and at least a cup of charcoal pellets from the canister sitting on the secondary air doors/valves...

    charcoal ingestion

I posted this request for help recently but likely in the incorrect spot - it is not mouse droppings - the charcoal in all a uniform size and there is at least a cup(!) "I found at least a cup of very small charcoal cylinder shaped (1/16th by 1/8th)pellets on top of my secondary air doors and in...
