What have you done to your square lately??

Reference my Suburban thread for how much I agree with this statement and how I dealt with all that "fun".

    1987 surburban

Welcome from Oregon. My '84 K2500 Sierra Classic with 350 (now 454)/4 speed/np208 sat dormant for nearly 30 years in a guy's garage. 6 months of work and its back on the road far better than ever, so I say it's worth it to save as many as we can. As I found it: First drive 2 weeks ago: We...

What have you done to your square lately??

Took it for it's first drive in nearly 30 years, first time with big block power:

That had happened in the past when it was @Catbox car still, this pump actually has e-clips on both sides to keep that from happening. Think this time the diaphragm just said "Nah, I'm tired of this".

    Old school hub caps

The wheels are yes, the center caps are off of a GMT800 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. Stock they have these hideous clip on center caps: GMT800 caps make them look much better IMO. I've also seen Dodge guys run them with Ram center caps, also much better.

On the way to work this morning, we decided that the office wasn't where we needed to be just after getting onto I-5...where there's a giant hill. Saved and drug home by a buddy, I'm sure we were a sight to be seen going down the road. Hoping its just the fuel pump. Pulled the main supply...

    Old school hub caps

They're just the right amount of "modern" looking for them to look good in my opinion. The GMC caps finish them off properly, rather than no caps or the terrible H2 caps. Suburban will eventually be getting a set of 17x9 Procomp Rock Crushers wrapped in Cooper STT Pros (315/70 for now...

Photos of what @Catbox is referring to on my Suburban: Peep the Shrek Crocs, those are proper PPE for this project. Just used a Dremel tool with a cutoff disk and a sanding drum for the cleanup work. Took maybe 10-15 minutes to do each front one.

    Alternator BAT Wire Gauge

Here's my Dad's thread about building these DIY style at home. https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/diy-battery-cables.23014/ We now use a hydraulic crimper from HF most of the time for simplicity and speed, but either method works great. Using the heat shrink you can get online with the glue...

    Alternator BAT Wire Gauge

I've used 6GA welding wire when I've made new charge cables. Lots of strands, good for bigger alt (and bigger stereo that sucks the juice faster/harder), and good wire that'll last a good long time. Overkill 0GA welding wire for main bat. POS and NEG as well.

My '84 is gonna get one too, big block doesn't have a fuel pump boss at all. This ones lowered 3.5" total up front with 1.5" Belltech S10 Extreme springs and 2" '98+ drop spindles with sealed hubs and dual piston calipers. 3" blocks out back with the "HD" s10 leaf packs, upgraded from the...

This one had lots of miles on it when I got it from an "Uncle" off his RV, just never got around to swapping with the new ones I ordered. 3 spares since I know MSD likes to arc in the cap and carbon track, thus negating spark.

PO put an electric fuel pump on this one as the company he used for the S10 chassis swap didn't offer engine mounts tall enough to run a mech pump. Not done in a permanent or correct manner at all, but F' it, we ball. It'll get a more proper setup when it comes back. Ridiculously fun truck...

Here we are dead on the busiest part of the busiest highway in the state. Fuel pump decided it doesn't want to do its job anymore. Off to timeout it goes tonight after work, time for the other car to come out and get abused until my Suburban is running. At least this one gets 22mpg with my...

I prefer the 1303, '73 specifically to stay away from the fugly shock absorbing bumper mounts and it's easier to get lower. Girlfriend's car is a '71 1302, feels weird to drive/ride around in with the windshield being right there. The dash to me looks better in the later cars, more finished...

We've had ours for 21.5 years now, grew up in and working on this car. @Catbox has the ancient photos of engine work, me pulling the transmission on my 9th birthday to install the pro street, etc. Learned to drive stick in it at 10 whilst sitting at a birthday party my sister was attending...

She wanted to be like the boyfriend's car, my other "sometimes daily". This one hides away most of the year because I don't want the rust in the floors and the quarter panel "death rot" getting worse. Comes out every few months for a bit to get abused, it loves rev limiter... This was toying...

    Engine Bay Wiring Identification

My only opposition to the red and blue being PO added is that it’s got a factory looking tag near the hitch at the rear, naturally, it’s not legible at all. I’ll see about grabbing a photo today if the rain lets up some. Im kinda thinking it goes along with @75gmck25 ‘s idea for the second...

    Engine Bay Wiring Identification

The other wiring that I've kinda got an idea about but am unsure of is these red and blue wires. They're paired up together starting on the wheel tub and run back towards the trailer hitch. But don't have any plug or label on them, just bundled back there. Assuming something for a 7 pin...
