Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

The breather hose to the air cleaner would not raise HC. The PCV valve to manifold vacuum would. As far as the timing, you are allowed +/- 3* unless the underhood label states otherwise. Here is a quote from page 18 of the smog check manual - "Pass/Fail Criteria: To pass inspection, the base...

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs

High hydrocarbons is caused by a misfire. It is unburned fuel. Check anything that would cause a misfire like tune up stuff, over advanced timing, lean fuel mixture, etc. Is your test the two speed idle test or on the BAR 97 dyno? If your GVWR for that year is over 6001 lbs, it is considered...

SOLD - 75 Stepside and Trailer For Sale $14,000 - SOLD

I bought this California truck about 5 years ago and started restoring it. It is a Smog Exempt, 1975 C10 Cheyenne Short Bed Stepside. Clean title - "in hand". I have went through the drivetrain, suspension and interior but it still needs the exterior painted. The previous owner told me he put a...

    question on 85 C10

I'm running the headlight expert LEDs on my 75 Stepside. I had to call them to get the orientation right as their video is incorrect. I'm very happy with them. They are a very clean, white light and are super bright and clear. The lenses also have the fluting on them so you don't blind...

    Carburetor recommendation

Is your truck California certified or Federal? Is it over 8500 lb GVWR? For 1985 - If it's a California truck under 8500 lbs, it should have a computer controlled feedback carburetor. Federal or over 8500 lbs, would be a standard type carburetor. To pass smog inspections in California, make...

The Quest for the Last Radiator

I've been using Champion radiators for all my vehicles. They work well and are priced fairly. All their radiators come with a lifetime warranty. I have only had to get one replaced. It was in a jeep wrangler used for a lot of off roading. The radiator started leaking after about 10 years...

Anyone use wester chassis 2/4 lowering kit?

I used them on my 75 Stepside. Worked out great. I purchased the coil springs thru Summit but the leafs were on back order so I had to buy them from Western Chassis direct. I had the HD 56" rear spring option. The lowering springs only come in 52". I had to move my shackle hangers up 4" but that...

    78 GMC seat belt styles

My light duty 1975 short bed stepside has a GVWR of 5300 lbs and came with lap belts only. The trim on the pillar did not have holes for the shoulder belt but when I replaced the trim, I found the threaded holes underneath. I'm trying to decide whether or not to install shoulder belts. The...

    how long does polyurethane last?

I did a lot of comparison research when I purchased my "complete" kit from Energy suspension for my 75 C10 Stepside. According to the articles I read, Energy Suspension polyurethane had a little more give than most and had the best ride quality for street use. It also comes with a lifetime...

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

That's the one!! Somehow I ended up with 3 gauges and the big dummy light for the brake. Everything else works so I was going to install the brake lens to complete the cluster. I may change the Amp meter to a volt meter once I figure out how to modify the wiring.

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

I never checked out the dash as it was in the truck when I got it. I looked in the owner's manual and you are correct, the light should be in the speedometer. Who knows, the truck has been through a few owners before I got it. It may be a compilation of parts from different years. The truck...

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

@AyWoSch Motors... Where did you find the white gauges? Those would look pretty good.

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

The one I'm looking for is a lens. It allows the light to shine through if there is a brake problem. This one may be for deleting a gauge spot. I don't think the light could shine through if it is solid black. Not sure??

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

It's the "dummy" light for the brake warning. It's annoying without the lens and doesn't look very good.

Gauge Cluster--73 to 87 (100mph speedo, clock, no O.D., no tach)

I'm looking for the lens that goes on the left lower corner of the cluster for the brake light (where the clock option is). I can't seem to find one aftermarket. Thanks.

    Anybody use classic industries

Very easy installation aid. You cut open the large trash bags and cover the foam on your seat. This allows the seat cover to just slide right on without pulling or catching on the foam. When you get the cover just about all the way on, you pull the trash bags out. Works great.

    Anybody use classic industries

The exterior is still a "in progress". The truck was pretty disgusting when I got it so I did the complete interior first. I've done the urethane bushings, ball joints, springs front and rear, exhaust, installed a 700r4, new brakes, tires, aluminum radiator, headers and many other engine...

    Anybody use classic industries

I bought my seat cover from classic industries about 2 or 3 years ago. It was the dark saddle color. It matched my interior pretty well and was very easy to install. I used the trash bag trick and they slid right on.
