    86 fuel filter

Something you don't need and I won't have soon.I am using it as a restrictor to regulate how much fuel I return. My factory pump is only a junction no pushrod behind it. That way I was able to keep my factory steel line and easily hook up to my factory lines. I'm pushing thru it with an electric...

    86 fuel filter

Inlet side of the pump. I'll find you a pic. It's a piece of cake to put it there, and no chance of a pinhole in a rubber line starting an engine fire..You are seeing the steel line running down,a fuel filter on the inlet side and the return line. Also I would leave the factory qjet filter with...

    Diagnostics Cable Adapter

Gm used their own language back then. Your Obd2 scanner isn't going to be able to communicate ,even if you get a cable. Those old GM aldl connectors you short terminal a to terminal b and its flash diagnostics. 1 long check engine light flash 2 quick ones is code 12. So on and so forth. If you...

No fuel in carb at start up

No it's not related to oil pressure.

No fuel in carb at start up

Are you pouring it in the bowl? Or down the throat. Leaky plug wells were a 1970 and prior deal, not saying it can't happen, but not probable. So back to what I asked are you filling the float bowl or dumping fuel down the carbureator primaries?

Want to build a good horsepower, good fuel economy engine for a 1978 c20 with stock 350. I don't know much and need help.

I worded that wrong,I hope you saw my mistake. I already edited it. You get the same amount of vacuum with ported or manifold once you are out of idle. But manifold gives you more timing at idle.

Want to build a good horsepower, good fuel economy engine for a 1978 c20 with stock 350. I don't know much and need help.

Yes manifold vacuum is constant. For decades. Manufacturers used manifold vacuum for vacuum advance. Using manifold vacuum was the way to do it before emissions became a problem. If you use ported vacuum at idle you won't have any vacuum advance at idle, manifold vacuum and ported vacuum match...

Want to build a good horsepower, good fuel economy engine for a 1978 c20 with stock 350. I don't know much and need help.

You've adjusted the carbureator wrong, get a book. I recommend an old motors manual off ebay. Brakes start a new thread, sorry lots going on can't devote the time to this that you need. If you aren't using a vacuum gauge and mixture screws your doing it wrong, and set the timing first, vac advance...

Fuel pouring out of charcoal canister.

Yes you have too much fuel pressure, a tbi pump is going to be about 15 psi, a carbureator needs about 5. Your overfilling the float bowl and the bowl vent is draining into the canister. You need a bypass fuel pressure regulator,I'd mount it down where the original fuel pump was. Easy plumbing...

    Carb question

To be more like factory it should have keyed power to an oil pressure switch to the choke so if you have the key on without the engine running the choke gets no power. Look up factory 2 prong O.P switch 1984 c10

    Is this bad? Turbo question

I wasn't starting trouble, was just trying to understand the thinking. When the one ran away on me,it was oil from the crankcase vapors in the airbox, so my natural thought was any oil on the intake side, would be concerning. I was hoping you were some kind of guru, because I always like learning...

    "The Big 3 Upgrade"

Not starting trouble, reiterating, for those that don't know. Grounding the body,no matter where you do it,is not an extra ground it is an extremely necessary ground

    Is this bad? Turbo question

I understand diesels, and have had one run away on me,it was 4 stroke,I just didn't understand, still don't why oil leaking into the intake side at any point would be more or less concerning.I know mine was drawing oil vapor from the crankcase.

    "The Big 3 Upgrade"

Okay somebody linked this to a recent thread, I only read page 1 and page 6. What is stated is good info, but incomplete. The body needs a good ground also. Most things in or on the cab/body are grounded to the cab or body,so the cab/body needs a good path to ground. On a truck the bed needs a...

Ruh roh Raggy! I hear you knocking…

A bug engine weighs about 225lbs. You do not need a hoist or even a transmission jack to do a clutch on a square. Next time you'll know. But more importantly if you had asked here first. What's involved in doing a clutch on a C series we'd have told you. So next time you have a problem ask...

Want to build a good horsepower, good fuel economy engine for a 1978 c20 with stock 350. I don't know much and need help.

One has vacuum at all times, that's manifold vacuum. One has no vacuum at idle, that's ported. If you have your carbureator way out of adjustment though the ported vacuum still has vacuum because you have the throttle hung open a little. Anyway look up qjet vacuum ports drivers side front 5/32...

Does the vacuum advance work? Is it connected to ported vacuum or manifold vacuum? Do you know the difference between the two?

Want to build a good horsepower, good fuel economy engine for a 1978 c20 with stock 350. I don't know much and need help.

Absolutely, timing first then carb adjustments. When dialing in performance it's ignition first then carbureation. Carbureator are so over blamed for incorrect timing or curve. Have messed with the timing shortly before your problem?

Okay not the answer you were looking for,but at one time me and my buddies used to think radio knobs made from wine corks and little kings caps looked cool. Do they still make little kings?

350 tbi stumbles and backfires under load

Yes you can use inductive timing light to check injector pattern, clip the pickup to the coil wire, not the number 1 wire. I wasn't going to mention this until he's done basic diag, but that's how you do it. The TPS will make them stumble also, but basics need checked first. IMHO

A bad plug or wire can cause rich. So can a dead cylinder or a vacuum leak, retarded timing
