    Jumpy steering

On all my old square's , make sure all your steering part's are good , ball joints , tie rod ends , draglink ends , steering box tight (no cracks in frame) and jack her up , pull the tires off and set her down on jack stands on level ground. Then I put a straight edge on each side between the...

    Jumpy steering

With r.c. lift springs you could run any shock you want and the ride will be pretty close to the same , (stiff). I have messed around with a lot of shocks on old lifted trucks with stiff lift springs and there is not alot of ride change. Now if you are running , custom, stock or soft springs thats...

    school me on 454 swaps

I am not a fan of the peanut port heads , the big ovals are the way to go , they are better all the way around for a stock cast head and the chambers are smaller (closed chamber) so it's helps with bumping the compression up and you need that style of head to have a quench motor which in turn...

    school me on 454 swaps

Agree 100%^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Most of my old trucks are big blocks and all of them have stock early model oval port heads ,(big ovals) with mild cams and they all run super hard and would destory a 350 hp small block in , towing , drag racing , freeway passing , all while getting the same mileage...

    Jumpy steering

It's problably alignment , I have driven all my truck's over the years with smoked ball joints with nothing like that going on.But check everything , even bad tires can do that.

    Replacement Spring Question

deavers main shop is in santa ana c.a. (714-542-3703) , but they have dealers in a lot of places. I dont think they are a vender here , but I am not sure.

    Replacement Spring Question

If it was me I would call up deaver springs and tell them you want all new soft ride springs 2" over stock and then air bag the back. That way you still have a good ride when unloaded.Really it does not matter the spring count it's more the spring rate , I have had 4 leaf packs that were stiffer...

Will this 14 bolt fit my truck?

My 1977 crew cab , 3/4 ton has the narrow rear end in it and it will not interchange with any other of my square's , 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton , with out changing the spring hanger's or changing the spring perches. Although I do not mess around with anything past 1979 square's so I dont know about the...

    Tires

Strange , I have a set of km'2s on my 06 duramax , (325/60-20)= 35.6 tall 13.2 wide , and I am very happy with them. The only thing that I can say bad about them is they are not a good snow tire on plowed roads , (they do ok in the deep stuff) and as they wear they are getting a little loud ...

    Tires

I have the bfg's on my duramax and so far they have been great but now they are down to 1/4 tread they are a little loud. My buddy has the nitto's and they are way louder but they look cool . I personally like they look of a wider tire and wheel on the old square's , (I put wide wheels on all mine).

    extending parking brake cables?

That's a tuff one , I have extended the bracket down but I dont like the look and on my higher lifted trucks I took the cables out of the drum's , welded the hole's shut and installed line lock's , so no cable's needed. Some say the line lock's bleed off over time but they have worked well for...

    Torque converter

A must know , and it also depends on which kind of converter brand you go with , a 3000 b&m or tci are loose converter's and are not super street friendly , (I do not like them). If you call up turbo action or continetal they will build you a tight converter for your cam , gear , wieght combo...

    87 Truck High steer

Good point , when I first got the blazer it had the tie rod above the springs but I was told buy my buddy who own's a shop that with big rubber it stresses the top of the knuckles to much and he has seen them break so I bought a early model drivers side knuckel to match my ried racing passenger...

    87 Truck High steer

Yes , way better than the raised arm set up I also went with a frame brace kit from ord as well and now when you turn the steering wheel back and forth when parked there is no flex in the frame at the steering box so it tighten's the steering over all even more and I dont think you will have...

Dual Thrush or Dual Cherry Bombs?

I am with hotrodpc on this one , (dont like the sound of glass packs). I also like the sound of larger pipe , (I run 2 1/2" on everything) smaller pipe is to rappy for my taste. I also do not like the sound of pipe running out free air. Exhaust systems that bounce off the pavement always sound...

Rear blocks / zero rate advice?

Technically in a perfect world your pinion angle should on be the same angle as your t-case with a u-joint at both end style driveshaft , (a c/v at one end drivshaft is different) , any way I always drop the t-case a hair , then put my parts on , then run it up and down the hwy. at different...

Rear blocks / zero rate advice?

I would go to a 6" lift , the shackle flip is a great thing as well or a small body lift. If you are trying to save money on the deal or just dont want to be over 5 inches of lift a 1 inch body lift would be the cheap way ,(bolts and a 1" spacer) , for the 0 rate you would need four 1 inch...

Show me 36" tires on a 4" lift

Sorry , dont have any pic's but if you run skinny wheels like 7" wide you might get away with it , but I think you would still rub with out some minor trimming. I have never tried that combo but a spacer behind the wheel would mahe thing's worse. It also depends on the tire as well not all tire...

    87 Truck High steer

Off road design's is were I got my part's. You will need a 2wd steering box as well with a pitman arm. You can get everything there if you like. I also got the reid racing knuckle , (beefier than stock) for the passenger side and make sure it matches your driver's side , (tie rod taper , up or...

    454 455 hp sm465 410 gears

The gear chart shows 2,762 at 70 mph with 4.10 gear's and 35's , which is not that bad . You could run a gearvendor's overdrive and you would have a sweet set up , but they are spendy. You could also try and stay at 65 mph most of the time and be at 2,564 rpm , which is a little better , or slap...

Dual Thrush or Dual Cherry Bombs?

Look into moroso spiral flows , just put them behind a small block 400 with hedman header's and they sound deep and mean , pretty loud as well. They sound way better than any glasspack imo. but you have to like loud.

    Crate Motor for a 77 C20?

If you can find a great machine shop I would go for the rebuild with good head's , better bang for your buck. Crate motor's are subject to poor quality control , so you get a good one or a not so good one , (rolling the dice). IMO.
