    Yes, swapping the 87 onto the 84 shouldn't be an issue. They are balanced the same.

    Match the flexplate to the engine, you'll need a 2 piece flexplate to go to your current automatic. Changing the accesories over will not be an issue since you're reusing your original heads anyway.

    I don't blame you, finding a rust free truck isn't a big deal. It's just a matter of money. Always start witht he nicest thing you can afford. Photos would help, but I basically agree with the other poster, if you're not comfy, skip it.

    I wouldn't bother. By the time you buy a welder, materials, patches, etc etc.. Even if you do an excellent job, you'll still have a patched cab. At a pretty significant cost too. A 20 hour drive will put me nearly anywhere in the US, and I can get an unpatched, clean cab for 500-800 bucks...

    I have a 4L80, an 85 just has a 5 pinion planetary, totally unnecessary. The 70 is pointless. They'll all need a standalone controller if you're not running an LS engine.

    The factory hose does a bit of a dipsie-doodle, but I found a straight 90 online with beads on each end. Hopefuly I can cut the factory hose where it's still straight, put the 90 on, and then maybe use a Jeep or boat filler on a flat panel there by the front marker.
