I'm guessing it has long tube headers on it? maybe get some mid length or short headers. same wall thickness as the cross member?- Derick C.

87' TBI timing question
When I first put my 454 in my suburban it would detonate when towing, I retarded the timing a little bit and it got worse, so I advanced it and so far its seems to like 8 deg adv- Derick C.

I think the factory Y-pipe is only 2 1/4 dia. I built my own several years ago in my 92 with 2 1/2 into a single 3" where the y pipe comes together- Derick C.

Sounds like you need to find a better trans shop. I have a 700r behind a 454 and tow 5k lbs on a regular basis with no issues. They can be great transmissions if built right.- Derick C.
