    I would pull the lifters on those loose cylinders and make sure that they aren't flattening the cam. They get concave on the bottom.

    The cam is a little long for a truck in my opinion, but not much. I am not sure about the springs, I didn't see where it spec'd that spring anywhere. It sounds like it should be a good engine. I am curious what you find out.

    Have you considered fixing the head on the existing engine? It may be a better engine than a cheap crate engine. What is the issue?

    Have you changed carburetor jets? The holleys are usually jetted pretty rich out of the box. What jets are in it? Did you blow the power valve with a back fire?

    Clogged fuel line or sock in the tank. Maybe at the valve to change tanks . Open up the fuel line and see if you can blow air through it. Check it in sections until you find the clog. Make sure the system has a vent as well.

    Engine temp isnt rising

    I know its frustrating not to know why, but it is a good problem that it is not getting too hot. Maybe the intake change made a difference. The stock big block 402 in my GMC only gets to the first mark on the temp gauge under normal driving with a 195 thermostat.
