    Truck Size

It is the EPA doing that. They don't want people to keep vehicles that they feel are emitting more poisonous emissions, and scolding people hasn't worked the way they hoped it would, so they give tax credits to auto makers who make their vehicles impossible to fix. That way they will be junked...

I say if you have to have an LS, put a carb or carbs on it and a distributor on it. Electronics quickly become obsolete, then they soon quit making replacements. Carbs and distributors are easily rebuildable. J. B.

Today's world is so fed up. More and more, I am starting to look forward to the end of the world. I used to fear it. Maybe I am just getting too old! J. B.

Idle Mixture Screws Do Not Adjust Anything on 1974 454.

Stuff from foreign countries is often off due to the fact that they measure in metrics, so they have to convert, which leaves room for errors. If you can find American or Canadian made, buy that instead, and screw the higher price. J. B.

Freeze plugs into the block- how to remove?

That's just about the only way. You shouldn't leave them in, as they act sort of like a beaver dam and cause a big lump of scale to form around them, which causes a hot spot. J. B.

    Crack/Knick in 350 Cylinder Wall

That is a crack. A score would be straight. You can have it sleeved, but first mike the other cylinders. If they are already at maximum oversize, you will have to decide if you want to sleeve all the cylinders. Not cheap, but 350s are becoming less than common, so think about it. J. B.

    AC system identification

I think you have a system made by Hurricane Air. I would contact them and furnish some pictures, and see if they can help you. J. B.

    Need a bit more oomph...

First, determine what your gear ratio is. If it is overgeared, putting a more aggressive cam in it will only make it worse. What size tires and rims are you running? Larger diameter gives the effect of taller gearing. Lastly, how do you want it to perform? If you value off-the-line snap and...

    Factory smoke

A quick way to see of the alternator is working is to see if the back of the rear bearing cover is magnetized when engine is running - strong magnet, it is good. Weak or not magnetic, bad alternator. J. B.

    Front bumper not mounted right

This is a 73 - 80 frame. You could use the correct 73 - 80 bumper and brackets with no problem - it will look fine - or, if you want to use the 83 front bumper, you will need the correct brackets for that bumper. If you don't have another vehicle to use as a template, have a helper with you...

Welcome to our community! Great looking Suburban! Remember, don't try to use one of those new style 0W motor oils! You might have dangerously low oil pressure! J. B.

    New or old

Simple - drill mounting holes in the proper location through to top of your frame horns - first put the upper mounts in your bumper and have a helper hold the bumper in the proper location, then drill the mounting holes. For the lower mounts, use another set of upper mounts, you will have to do...

    Stumped on oil leak

Good that you found the cause of the oil getting on the headers, but putting RTV on the timing gear cover will be a temporary fix at best, as oil in back of it will eventually push it off. If cap screws on the cover are all properly tightened, then you need to remove it and clean the mating...

    3 on the tree

Powerglides are fine for small blocks and MILD big blocks that are not much more than 400 cubes, but I wouldn't put one in back of a souped big block. J. B.

    3 on the tree

I think you need the Tremac. Yes, it is rare on a GM vehicle, but that's what my 73 C25 has, and is what was put in back of 454s that had a 3 speed. Rare, but they do exist. It is the torque, more than horsepower, that can break gears. Stay away from the little pencil sharpener size units...

Regearing Advice... What do I need?

4:10 or 3:73 is what you need if you have an automatic are towing. If you have a stick, 4:10 or maybe even 4:56 if you have the biggest tires. The LS is more of an RPM motor than the regular Small Block, so you need shorter gears. J. B.
