What have you done to your square lately??

Grit Dog, as a good test of how well you've done, you'll need to drive it over here to Pasco and back. Of course while your here you can take a look at my rig and help me get it running again. ;)

    Valve adjustment question

Thanks. That's one of two different ways I've done the adjustment. I've messed things up pretty good I suspect. I'm patient though, and look forward to figuring it out. Kinda fun actually. LOL

    Valve adjustment question

Sorry it's been so long getting back to this thread. Been doing a lot of reading, and watching videos. I decided to back up and go a different route. I bought a remote starter to confirm cylinder #1 at the top of it's compression stroke at TDC. I pulled the spark plug, hooked up the remote...

$129 is a good deal on the Dewalt. 2 battery's alone would run nearly that much.

What have you done to your square lately??

On mine I can just disconnect the fill hose from underneath and pump gas in using a fluid pump.

    Valve adjustment question

The manual says to turn them an additional 3/4 turn. Some say a full turn. This last time I went 1/2 turn. Might have to hit up a mechanic friend who goes to the same church I do. Or talk a friend of mine named Rob who lives across the state in the woods of western Washington to come visit . ;)

What new tools have you got lately?

I have to replace the diff fluid in my Jeep's rear axle, and don't feel like tearing the cover off and reinstalling, so I picked up this tool to suck the gear oil out and install new gear oil.

    Valve adjustment question

I've tried two different ways to adjust the valves (the service manual version twice). When I did the first one it wouldn't start and I thought I'd over tightened, so I remove the cover and do it again, but a little looser. No change. According to the service manual both valves on a cylinder are...

    Valve adjustment question

I did set the timing at 0* TDC and alined the distributor rotor at spark plug #1 when adjusting the valves. I guess I'll pull the distributor and move it 180*. Can't hurt I guess.

    Valve adjustment question

I poured a cap full of gas into the carb. Got some large back fires. Removed the filter and hooked up the fuel line. More back fire. Loosened the distributor enough to move and rotated it back and forth, but only back fires. Is it possible that the distributor is in backwards?

    Valve adjustment question

Just an update: I've adjusted the valves according to the service manual, hooked everything back up, and no start. I do have spark but it seems that there's no fuel. I'm considering taking out the new fuel filter and trying it that way. If I were to install an inline filter then it seems like I...

Hardest valve cover in the world to find

Thought I would post a couple of pics just in case someone has a supplier. You can see from the distributor side view that this cover has 5 bolts, where as a vast majority have 3. The other major difference is that this cover has three openings in the top where as all others have two.

Hardest valve cover in the world to find

It's valve cover for a 250 CI inline 6. It has 5 bolt holes on the distributor side and 6 bolt holes on the carburetor side. I can find gaskets all day long but I've spent hours trying to find the cover. Any one know of a website I could check out?

What have you done to your square lately??

After work I decided to readjust the valves using the modified distributor cap. It was an invitation for a brain fade. After setting cylinder one at TDC and adjusting it's valves I could not move the harmonic balancer to the next position. I'm stumped until I remember the trans is not in...

    Valve adjustment question

I have an old distributor cap so I thought I'd cut the top of it off, set the engine at top center, and mark each cylinder plug location. I can turn the engine manually until the rotor lines up with each cylinder, verify piston is at it's top position, and then adjust the valves. What do you think?
