What have you done to your square lately??

People say the TPS voltage at rest needs to be close to 0.5. and I agree that is ideal. but anything under about 0.9v at rest (installed) will work. it's easy to backprobe with a multimeter. and you can adjust the voltage at rest by bending the tab that contacts the throttle blade shaft tab.

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

no doubt! no way I could use tuner pro or the more complicated software without a steep learning curve. I think ALDLDroid is about as user friendly as you can get for a non-mechanic like me. but even with ALDLDroid, you still need a vacuum gauge, timing light, DMM, and other tools in the toolbox.

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

not knocking using a DMM, but if you can find a 1320 electronics or red river devil Bluetooth scanner and have a Droid phone with ALDLDroid, it gives you a lot more info than just the trouble codes and is very user friendly. here is my home screen on that app, but it shows even more data. and...

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

Even the data logging on the OBD1 is such a slow data report out rate that you can still miss small hiccups. I think it is just barely than 1 data a point per second being reported, even though the system itself uses data at a much more rapid speed.

    Engine running rough

If the check engine light is still on, there should be a code stored. It will flash 12 three times, then each code three times, then 12 three times again.

    Engine running rough

Code 12 is the "all good" code. Any blown fuses? Particularly ECMB?

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

the sometimes lack of power and sometimes fine makes me think about an intake manifold vacuum leak. also check to make sure the EGR isn't stuck open.

87 tbi 350 popping at idle and running rich

a timing light works well for this. the strobe effect helps. and while the timing light is out, I'd disconnect the EST and check base timing to make sure it is at 0 deg BTDC (or maybe a little more won't hurt, but you don't want less).

    One more electrical plug identification

pretty sure green wire single connector is the temp sensor for the gauge between cylinders 1 and 3.

    washer pump not working

I have a similar situation. my washer won't work when it is below about 50deg in the cab. works great after cab warms up and all spring, summer, fall. I have a bad connection in the switch I think. because when I ground pink at the module, the washer always works regardless of temp. I plan to...

    How to "Un-Lift" my suburban

350/700r4/4.10 would be pretty good with 32-33in tires. I have the same in my burb but with 3.73. I wouldn't mind a little more gearing at times when its windy on the highway, or another 50hp...whichever is easier

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

I think some of the 454s idled in open loop as a matter of the stock PROM. So open loop idle might not be anything to worry about.

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

I've had intermittent short to ground issues on ECMB and ECMI circuits kill the engine. usually it blows a fuse. but sometimes I think it might interfere just enough to kill the engine, but not blow the fuse until it really shorts. I've also had a cracked distributor cap cause similar...

1987 454 TBI stalls at idle after a short time

this is a direct link- http://aldlcable.com/aldl.asp also you can check out https://reddevilriver.com/home-page/ols/products/gm-12-pin-aldl-scan-bluetooth and use your phone with ALDLDroid. I have a 1320 electronics Bluetooth ALDL, but they have apparently gone out of business. but you maybe...

86 1/2 ton gears needed for 33” with new 383

there is a rare 4.30ish something, but it isn't commonly available. with 32-33in tires, that would just about put it like stock tires and 3.73s. I bet 35s and 4.56 is probably close to a "stock" gearing/tire size for 3.73.

    Dakota Digital RTX gauge cluster

maybe it is intentionally off center and at an angle to allow better viewing of the lower left gauge spot from the drivers point of view.

86 1/2 ton gears needed for 33” with new 383

I have 350tbi/4L60/3.73 in my burb with "33's" that actually tape out around 32 inches. it is adequate enough that I won't likely regear but will look to add about 50 more hp when the engine dies. really it isn't bad on the highway cruising around 2100 RPM at 74-75mph flat ground. it does...

    LED Issues

I plan to stick with incandescent bulbs for brakes/blinkers because of these sorts of issues. I just don't see the huge upside with LED in these uses compared to the obvious advantages in forward lighting, reverse lights, the instrument panel, etc.

    Replace Gauge Needle

you can replace it if you can find one. you can gently pry them off with a fork. it is just a friction fit. or you may be able to glue your old one back on?

    89 Suburban 5.7 blowing fuse #5 GAGE/IDLE

I'd guess that your manipulation of the harness moved the purple wire off it's short to ground for the mean time. Go out at night and use a flashlight to inspect that wire. The rub through will be fresh and shiny metal compared to everything else, and will be very reflective.

    89 Suburban 5.7 blowing fuse #5 GAGE/IDLE

Mine was rubbed through on this bracket right above the TCC connector in the photo. You might just move the harness a little to make sure it isn't touching metal and see if that helps you narrow down the location. I think there is also a bracket by the firewall where the harness leaves the...
