    I have metal fittings plugged for when I am doing this operation, but light pressure is all you need to do a quick test, so the plastic plugs should be sufficient. One thing I've not seen discussed yet is whether or not the fluid level in the master stays the same after several dozen pumps...

    When you replaced the master cylinder, wasn't there plastic plugs in the ports? Those will work for testing purposes.

    Has the proportioning valve shifted? If the hoses are original, it's possible that they have collapsed internally and at this age it's not a bad idea to change them out anyway.

    If the old bezels and such are still serviceable, you could sell them to recoup the cost of converting to original pre 79 design. Don't throw it away. Some of us like that trim.

    Is there a discernable temperature difference between the two heater hoses when hot and set to max? If it's a lot, maybe then the core is plugged or the valve is the restriction. Try cardboard in front of radiator.

    I don't think so. If one speed has power, the resistor seems to be getting juice. Whether it is distributing through the various values to give the speeds seems the problem. But no high speed seems its own problem.

    Strictly switching and the speed resistor controls the fan. And good ground. Assuming you have power there to begin with.

    I use a white paint pen to write on the black NAPA gold or Wix oil filter ends the date and mileage it was installed. This has helped me to remember when.

    Engine won't get up to temp

    Even new thermostats will fail even after testing. Does the IR indicate proper operation? Have you scanned the temp on the heater hoses? Maybe thermal wrap on them will reduce the loss to an acceptable level. Because beyond blocking airflow through the radiator, I have no other cold area tips...
