Differences in dash metal by radio cutout?

I always thought the only difference was the shape of the radio hole.

What new tools have you got lately?

I picked up a bench top drill press, a little holder thing for gloves and a few paint guns in hopes of painting the Blazer in ‘25. Horrible Freight had the paint guns on sale for 50% off so for $15 ea I figured they’re disposable per coat. lol

Just curious, is it a Mark IV block or a later generation?

    Electronic Shift NP203/NP205 Doubler

There are various kits on the market to essentially stack components of tcases in order to increase the ultimate low range ratio(s). A “Doubler” (while often used generically for tcase combinations) specifically refers to a kit offered by Off Road Design that has an adapter to mount the range...

454, 1987, lower oil dipstick Bolt

I see the block mounting tab in post #8 now, I missed it earlier. Mortec.com should have some general info about your block casting number.

454, 1987, lower oil dipstick Bolt

Does anyone currently have a big block with the dipstick actually bolted to the block? If so, pics? I've been running 454's since the late 80's (all Mark IV blocks) and I've never had a dipstick that attached to the block. I've used various aftermarket and OE dipsticks and the mounting tab on...

Jet Performance Quadrajet JET Performance anyone gotz?

I’m no real help but I thought I’d post that my qjet was built by Sean Murphy Induction which was supposed to be a group of former Jet employees, SMI closed a couple of years ago. That said, I sent my core to SMI and requested a Stage 2 rebuild. I had to fill out a questionnaire detailing my...

    Electronic Shift NP203/NP205 Doubler

I just converted the electric shift nv273 in my Dodge to manual because of reliability issues. I have a 203/205 Doubler and there’s not a lot of room around the 205 rails and 203 lever. If you were able to fit 3 actuators (+ brackets) there you’d almost certainly have to run single exhaust...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

@Bextreme04 that’s excellent big block trivia! I looked at my old pics and I do have those “extra” holes, in fact mine appear to be bigger than those in your pic. I was hoping I had the part number for the head gaskets I used but my receipt just says “overhaul kit”.

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Interesting, this is in the Q/A for that product. Do you know the year of your block? . QUESTION: Paul Fel-Pro PermaTorque Head Gaskets 8523PT1 Can this gasket be used to install gen V 088 head on 1975 Mark IV single lower coolant hole block? Can't seem to find a definitive answer, thank you ...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

I'm glad the radiator turned out to be a big one, that should cool fine. For the record, the 049 and 781 heads are basically the same casting so (if they are good) swapping between the 2 castings wouldn't make any difference.

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

I still question the radiator size, that part number posted had a core thickness of 1-9/16” which is pretty thin. I run a factory 4 row 6.2 diesel radiator which is the same height and thickness as the heavy duty option gas radiator but it’s about 6” longer. My radiator has 3” wide (metal)...

    Locked Hub Isn't Really Locked

Pack the wheel bearings with grease but not the locking hub parts. Heavy grease will cause Spicers to stick and not move like they should, conversely if you put them in clean and dry they will rust. I usually dip each of the pieces of mine (except the chrome bezel and knob) in thick gear oil...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

With only 2 rows and 1-9/16" core thickness, that looks pretty small.

    It could have been worse

There's no splined hub there, the stud flange is part of the axle shaft. You probably had a wheel bearing die and wore into the shaft deep enough that the end broke off. You'll need to check for collateral damage on the housing, brakes, etc but you should be able to buy a new axle shaft, wheel...

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

I can’t remember if it was discussed, what size radiator was it? Did you order a big replacement unit?

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

Maybe check the radiator real good for flow. Possibly flush it for good measure? What about belt routing, I've seen serpentine belts that could route differently than intended. Could the belt be driving the water pump in the wrong direction? It would be a last resort since it would be pretty...

What about the radiator, are you sure it’s not blocked internally?

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

He said it’s a Mark IV block and 781 heads are from the Mark IV era so assuming he used the matching Mark IV head gasket there shouldn’t be any issues.

Big block running hot. Can’t figure out the issue

If there’s no signs of mixing fluids I wouldn’t pull the heads yet. What about the radiator? Is it actually circulating coolant?

    Should I go bigger u-joints

I don’t agree with the weak link theory, over build it to begin with and that’s not a problem.

Rubber seal(s) on outside of spindle?

I forgot to say that those kit part numbers I posted will have the 2 seals, the washer and the bearing. There may be a seal only kit available but I’ve never seen it.
