Temp gauge says overheating but the truck is 195°

I’d buy an aftermarket mechanical temp gauge to double check the factory gauge.

NP203 transfer case availability and rebuild

400/203 combos were 32 spline but these are pretty rare compared to the extremely common 27 spline 350/203. The 32 spline units are popular for Doubler applications so they have some demand whereas the 27 spline versions are considered junk. Research the required trans tailshaft length, the...

    Skinny mudders

I would think those tires would fit fine. The Interco website should tell you the recommended wheel width for each tire size. Be prepared for short tread life. Small, narrow bias ply tires will wear fast on a heavy truck. I’d realistically expect 15k miles or less.

Help - can't get front hub off

Remove that washer with all the holes (use pick or snap ring pliers), there’s a second lock nut behind it.

Need help finding replacement rear shock mounts

Have it welded up and it will be fine. I don’t think those brackets are reproduced and it’s rivoted to the frame so cutting the top rivots loose will suck. I guarantee you know someone that owns a welder.

    Shocks are like steel bars.

#1. Front blocks are BAD and illegal in many cities / states. #2. I’d bet you’re feeling the front suspension bottom out on the bump stops since there not much room between stock front springs and the bumps. #3. Get a real lift kit (see #1), Tuff Country is typically the best riding off the...

What new tools have you got lately?

I bought a Power Probe last year and LOVE it (while at the same time somewhat hating electrical work). The ability to push power through a circuit is super helpful.

    Can I put a np203 in my 84’ K10 that originally had the 208?

@Cyrillious with respect to upgrades the 205 wins; bigger yokes, twin stick abilities, upgrade shafts, upgrade cases, etc. At times, there are aftermarket 3:1 low range kits available however they are so expensive you’re really better off buying a product like a Magnum and combine it with a...

    Can I put a np203 in my 84’ K10 that originally had the 208?

In 1980 specifically, yes. No matter what 10, 20 or 30 series 4wd you had, it had an np205 (regardless of transmission as well). As far as 205 vs 208, I don’t have any idea of each units max capacity but most will argue the 205 is the better unit. The 205 is an iron bodied gear driven case...

What Sending units oil and water temp needed for guage cluster to work like factory in k10 454 swap I will buying all the components new thank you

Get the appropriate sending units for the gauge application (ex; if using an OE type cluster from an '83 K10 w/ 350 then use that application to order new parts). If the sending units have different thread sizes adapters can be found to make them fir the 454 (most likely they will fit fine).

    Front bumper not mounted right

I'm sure the 81+ brackets can be made to work but you'd probably need a good frame to measure for correct placement. Maybe you'll get lucky with bolt patterns.

    Can I put a np203 in my 84’ K10 that originally had the 208?

His statement specifically references 84 so there’s no conflict with what you have. The 205 was the ONLY tcase used in 1980 regardless of truck / suv configuration.

    Front bumper not mounted right

The closed end frame rails indicate a 73-80 frame, someone has done some swapping.

    dash gauge bezel mods

I put all Autometer gauges in my bezel plus a couple of extras. Mine was easy as I don’t have any “guts” in my dash, the job would probably be pretty tricky if you had to worry about the depth because of hvac, etc.

    454 water pump replacement

South Alabama here. Mine is a toy, not a daily driver but I’m running whatever the premium O’Reilly’s pump is without issues. IMO, you’d do better to focus on the radiator and fan set up.

I guess it’s all about marketing. With tech support like that and expensive “custom” harnesses that are actually not customizable it amazes me they’re so popular.

    Anyone lift a non-dually K30 Silverado? I’m going all springs…

I lifted my 91 using a Rough Country kit (it was indeed rough). There’s no best brand for “off the shelf” kits. These types of kits are all the same regardless of what series (10,20,30) truck you buy it for. The hardware is different and rear spring length change but the springs are the same...

My parts truck has auto hubs on the Dana 60!

Excellent point. All of the syncro’d 205’s I’ve had / seen were the figure 8 pattern, since the ‘85+ tcases are round pattern 82-84 would be correct.
