Softopper - I've been waiting for

@77 K20 I wasn't very careful about making sure that the top rails rested on the bulkhead of the bed when I was putting it up, so I need to fold down the topper and see where it lands. Regardless it seem to stay back there just plain and stable as can be. I've had it to 70 mph so far. Good...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

Ok, I didn't use a torque wrench either, I really think I'm in the ball park or if anything maybe a little on the tight side, but like I said earlier I'm just going to have trust issues with the clamps until I get use to them. I actually new the PO of my truck. But kind of lost touch with him...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

That sounds like me when I use to run a hard shell on my Dodge, I always had it on when I needed it off or visa versa, I didn't use to have a problem pulling it on and off by myself as it was one of those aluminum skinned ones and was fairly light weight, but it just became to much of a pain...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

My problem isn't that I can't drink at 8AM, my problem is that after that first drink at 8AM I'm then required to keep a small flow of booze all day, but if I at least wait until mid-afternoon....

Softopper - I've been waiting for

My thoughts so far: All the hard shell canopies I've had in my life ALL of them have been drilled and bolted though the frame rail. The softopper came equipped with clamps. The clamp has a C - shaped end that goes over the square aluminum tube which is the part of the frame that sits on the...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

@Grit dog Honestly I don't care if it stays as tight as it is, it's entire life as long as I don't have a snap pull though. And given that I was able to snap the hardest snap, with just a bit of a pull in 45F weather I'm sure it's fine, and even if I did have a snap pull though, it's just...

    Double Dingo's 1991 Jeep Cherokee

That's interesting on the separation. If your anything like me where you night vision isn't as good as it once was those Hellas will spoil you and the lights on your other vehicles will seem subpar.

    GM Delco CB Radio

My dad had a 78' GMC K20 with AM/FM/CB combination radio that had an 8 track player in it was well. He had the windshield antenna and a dedicated CB whip on the roof. I have to admit I kind of miss the CB radio, what I don't miss is trying to understand someone giving out important...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I think that I will apricate and like the versatility of the softopper vs a traditional topper, and I like the look. I think the look of the softopper fits with the look of the work truck, though I must admit it also say lets go camping, which is just fine with me. It's unlikely it'll ever be...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

And just tagging a few people that I think might be interested @77 K20 @DoubleDingo @Grit dog @Radiohead I'm sure there are more folks that would be interested and I'm sorry if I missed you. I'm pretty excited about the softopper!

Softopper - I've been waiting for

Now for my question to anyone that owns or has owned one of these things. First off I wonder if I should shift the bedrails forward some. Second question, the corners seem so bloody tight. I was able to get the snaps snapped by hand, but it took a bit of tugging. I think that the answer...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

I didn't really take pictures of the install, but I did take pictures of it after install. It's pretty simple, clamp the softopper rails to the bedtop, install the frame on the pivot, tighten the 4 straps, one in each corner and snap the snaps. I think it took all of about 20 minutes to...

Softopper - I've been waiting for

Preface this is not a question per-say but there is a question I will ask near the end more over this is just showing off something I've wanted for years. That's a Softopper. If you don't know what it is you will by the time I get though. These things cost like $1,100 new. No way am I...

Exhaust single to dual on a tight budget - Then we get into some after issues

Ok more of the SRO Chit show. You got your popcorn @SquareRoot - Mike. :) So what I discovered is that the valve I have simply lets to much flow and the adjustment is to sensitive to minor movement in adjustment. In other words if I crack it open 1mm it's flowing to little at 2mm it's to...

Exhaust single to dual on a tight budget - Then we get into some after issues

Yea, and just one seemingly simple thing has lead to this rabbit hole.... But I'm getting closer to being out of it, and certainly when I can afford the cats I'll be all the way out of it.

Exhaust single to dual on a tight budget - Then we get into some after issues

Ok so I setup the water "injection" last night. First lets talk about the setup, then we'll talk about the results. So my first issue what where to have the water enter at. I knew I wanted it to enter where the PCV valve line goes into the carburetor, because it's at the base of the...

good oil info in general, and bonus info for cams

It won't allow me to copy and paste, but the four rules on page 3 I think it was. Man everyone should read that. Basically that's the confirmation we all needed to see to know that basically any oil not GF-4 spec'd is ok for our engines at least in stock form. A good read I will finish the...

EFE, traditional Heat riser & thermac informational

That's my plan with the 305, when it's done I'll likely install a stock or near stock 350, but I'll still run the EFE and the thermac.

Exhaust single to dual on a tight budget - Then we get into some after issues

I yanked the wrap off the pipe today. I cannot stand the smell from it IDK what the deal is with this wrap but it smells like hell. I'm going to do the basic vacuum operated water injection system. I'm not really sure when I'm going to install it. Going to ported vac on the vac advance, and...

EFE, traditional Heat riser & thermac informational

Nice work, and it payed off for you with a better running vehicle. If I had to make the choice I would choose a working thermac over a the heat riser, for basically the reasons you state. The thermac can be a VERY good thing in freezing whether whether the engine is warmed up or not.

EFE, traditional Heat riser & thermac informational

So I think the only thing I have to say about the choke thing, is that there is a crossover and heat riser / EFE on trucks even with an electric choke. The biggest difference is just the electric control on the choke. My article is really specific to the square body, but certainly the...

Finished up dual battery installation, working well.

Ya, my van was setup like that where the charge wire came inside to the amp meter gauge on the dash. In more recent years I've owned to class-C motorhomes on the 70's van chassis, up until 2016 when we bought a 99' on a chev chassis with the 454. To be honest I kind of miss the old Dodge's, I...

Finished up dual battery installation, working well.

Funny story. Back in the middle 90's we were just scraping by financially for a few years in there, and I was driving a 1973 Dodge van, this old van had just about everything wrong with it that wasn't an absolute requirement to go down the road. One of the plans for our financial recovery was...

Code thrown but not for my year/MAP issue

@Jawzjeep I don't really have much to add to the conversation, I just came along read and thought I might be able to help but Andy and Taylor have given excellent advice and there is nothing for me to add other than to say listen to their advice it's good info!

Finished up dual battery installation, working well.

I have toyed around with the idea of doing this, but I'd want the second battery to be isolated and I'd want an override switch in the cab. For me there are times in the winter that I need to use the lights from the truck to illuminate something on the farm. Generally that is something broken...
