First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.
Doing a little research on this model number I found...that's either not the model number or this carb didn't come on this truck, or I found bad intel. This code would mean it was made in 1977 (truck is 1974) and this is a Varijet for a manual transmission.- Chris64

Just keeping this effort alive. Despite a 4 day weekend - I only had about 3 hours to finally work on the truck. I started checking compression and replacing plugs in cylinders 1-4 but ran out of light. The headers that are on there completely cover cylinder 6, 7 & 8. I think I can reach 7 & 8...- Chris64

OK - I finally took off the air cleaner housing - which was way easier than I was expecting. With it off I did find an idle hose that I think came off that diaphragm so I put that back on. It didn't seem to change anything. I fiddled with the moving parts a little to see if they're moving...- Chris64

OK - here's some pics of what I'm working with. I do see a little diaphragm looking thing off the distributor with nothing connected so that's probably wrong. Yeah - there is a hose coming from the carb that isn't going anywhere. I thought it was from the line on the intake that has the heat hose from the header (which I don't have) but I think it may go to the carb. I'll need to remove the air cleaner to follow it. I'll have to do that tomorrow.- Chris64

In reading about how to tune the quadrajet - I saw this same comment. I have a vacuum hose hanging on my passenger floor...Any idea where this goes? I assume it's part of the AC. Is that the same vacuum?- Chris64

Great tips. While I really like the idea of buying a new thing that will just make everything better...nothing works that way. I guess I need to buy some tools (compression test & timing light). So I've been checking off items to make this thing drivable and nothing's been easy. Lights; I had no lights and no single problem. A few cut wires, a few chewed wires, a few bad bulbs and a few bad connectors and even some bad bulb sockets. I know have full lights (outside) blinkers, brakes...- Chris64

Productive day. Stripping off the original dash is not fun. Heat is your friend. Managed to get it down to mostly shiny metal...except for the rusty bits. I was checking to see if it still fit OK with me prying at it for hours. It's strange to see how wrinkly the original stamped part is... -

This is more complicated than anything I've done but I figure what's the risk. Vinyl stretches pretty good with a heat gun. Hopefully the glue holds it ok. -

Well, the e-brake cable is just the rear-end probably (I re-read the title). But also the actual brake rubber hoses may need to be longer. That was my question. I know with a 4" they need to be replaced. I'm not sure with a 2" lift.- Chris64
