First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

Doing a little research on this model number I found...that's either not the model number or this carb didn't come on this truck, or I found bad intel. This code would mean it was made in 1977 (truck is 1974) and this is a Varijet for a manual transmission.

Just keeping this effort alive. Despite a 4 day weekend - I only had about 3 hours to finally work on the truck. I started checking compression and replacing plugs in cylinders 1-4 but ran out of light. The headers that are on there completely cover cylinder 6, 7 & 8. I think I can reach 7 & 8...

So that one you marked in blue must be that second line coming from the air-cleaner.

well I also took this one but there wasn't anything interesting on this side.

OK - I finally took off the air cleaner housing - which was way easier than I was expecting. With it off I did find an idle hose that I think came off that diaphragm so I put that back on. It didn't seem to change anything. I fiddled with the moving parts a little to see if they're moving...

OK - here's some pics of what I'm working with. I do see a little diaphragm looking thing off the distributor with nothing connected so that's probably wrong. I'll see what I can find in the PDF service manuals but it seems like you guys will spot things I wouldn't even think of. First pic -...

Yeah - there is a hose coming from the carb that isn't going anywhere. I thought it was from the line on the intake that has the heat hose from the header (which I don't have) but I think it may go to the carb. I'll need to remove the air cleaner to follow it. I'll have to do that tomorrow.

In reading about how to tune the quadrajet - I saw this same comment. I have a vacuum hose hanging on my passenger floor...Any idea where this goes? I assume it's part of the AC. Is that the same vacuum?

Great tips. While I really like the idea of buying a new thing that will just make everything better...nothing works that way. I guess I need to buy some tools (compression test & timing light). The sparkplugs and wires are another challenge. The only thing the previous owner did "upgrade" was...

So I've been checking off items to make this thing drivable and nothing's been easy. Lights; I had no lights and no single problem. A few cut wires, a few chewed wires, a few bad bulbs and a few bad connectors and even some bad bulb sockets. I know have full lights (outside) blinkers, brakes...

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

Got the wheels on finally - My poor truck needs so much work...I'll make a new thread about that. I'm happy with the wheels except it makes the rest of my truck look really bad. Also I will probably be switching out the 2" lift for a 4" because it will give me a little more clearance to put...

NEW Brothers Dash Bezels - CHEAP

Oh man those are good prices. I don't think they'll work on mine. I need 74 with AC. My wiper knob has another little opening above the wiper spot. I've been trying to restore mine without harming the chrome under the black paint. I'm prepared to just paint strip it at this point.

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

The price I found was the same everywhere - $333 each. Summit had free shipping which was about as good as it gets. They arrived super fast (ordered on Saturday, arrived on Monday). Discount Tire (same price) couldn't get this size for some reason. I got the tires at Costco which is free...

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

It says conical seat - 60 degrees. I recall the original mags these are styled after had a unique lug nut requirement.

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

Yeah, they stick way out past the new wheels but that's a good point. They're thick in the middle but have a really deep recess. That's sorta the problem. The lugs I have now which are pretty deep almost go completely into the wheel so much that I couldn't tighten them if I wanted to. And I...

US Mag wheels lug nut suggestions

So I just got my new wheels which are the US Mag 17x10's lug nut: I did a test fit with just the rim before taking them down to get tires (BFG AT 35x12.5x17) added and they fit very similar to what the truck had (Weld 16.5x9.5) Similar offset. A tiny bit wider (5mm) but they only offer 1 size...

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

Finally it was time to put on the upholstery. It was around this time my wife asked me "shouldn't you be doing this last?" She's probably right but I didn't have a seat and it turns out this will probably not be it's forever seat cover. I wanted to modify it to make the fixed back fold...

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

Also a spring was broken inside. I wasn't sure how well it would go welding a spring but it seemed to work fine. Here it is all repaired. The biggest problem I had was the under rim of the seat in both front corners became a toilet for the mice living in it before I got it. I could not get...

Seat Rebuild - To reuse or not reuse padding. And fixed to folding?

I finally got around to driving up to Huntington Beach to get the seat foam. I just can't bring myself to pay for freight. Seat foam from Classic Industries seemed decent enough. It's a little thicker than stock. So it was time to prep the seat frame. My first issue was a nut broke when...

    Rebuilding my dash pad.

I may go that route. We'll see. Contact cement is slowing down my progress greatly. Here's the first layer of EVA foam to level out everything. It's dense 3mm foam that I had floating around which was the perfect height. On top of that will be foam made from Harbor Freight floor tiles. They...

    Rebuilding my dash pad.

Productive day. Stripping off the original dash is not fun. Heat is your friend. Managed to get it down to mostly shiny metal...except for the rusty bits. I was checking to see if it still fit OK with me prying at it for hours. It's strange to see how wrinkly the original stamped part is...

    Rebuilding my dash pad.

This is more complicated than anything I've done but I figure what's the risk. Vinyl stretches pretty good with a heat gun. Hopefully the glue holds it ok.

    Front end noise

Well, the e-brake cable is just the rear-end probably (I re-read the title). But also the actual brake rubber hoses may need to be longer. That was my question. I know with a 4" they need to be replaced. I'm not sure with a 2" lift.

    Front end noise

I have a 2 inch on my K20. Is the e-brake cable clear? Mine is really close to the rear driveshaft and the exhaust. Yet another project that I haven't had a chance to work on yet. Just curious, did you get new brake cables? I just replaced my rear cable but I'm thinking I should've gotten a...

    Rebuilding my dash pad.

OK, A new project that probably won't work, but I'll try. I figure worse case scenario, I just buy a whole new dash. My original plan was to fill in the cracks and to fiberglass it as others have done. It looks good but I wasn't in love with it versus the more natural looking grain as well as...
