I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

$5800? A used engine that is in good shape could not be more than $500 or so. No? Maybe $400 labor to swap it, no?

    Leaky K5 tailgate

I would get inside and have someone spray a garden hose up into the air, so the water fall down on the window like rain, and double check where the water is coming in.

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

I have know old school mechanics that would replace just the bad bearing, and polish the crank. They said its not a good fix for every engine, but with any luck the crank is not damaged. Only way to find out is to pull the pan and check. I have never tried it myself, but I can say that I have...

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Will they warranty it or refund it? Change all 8 while you are in there if you are really worried about the other bearings.

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

But all jokes aside - if it's a spun bearing, you might be able to drop the pan and replace the bearing without pulling the motor or doing a full rebuild.

Are you sure its not that rusty bolt causing the problem?

I'm guessing that its just a vent hose. They probably put a filter on it to keep bugs out. Pre-Bent Original Material Fuel Lines for 1973-89 73-89 Chevy and GMC Truck - LMC Truck

    Sbc 350 lifter tick help

I have have a similar problem with a SB400. No lifter noise at all, unless I run the engine at 3000 RPM+ for an extended period of time. Then I get a LOUD lifter tap. So lets say you rev it up to 4K frequently - no problem. Run it at 4K for 30 seconds - no problem. Run it at 3500 RPM for 10...

Any tricks to getting your SB doors to close easier?

I hated the way my doors closed. As others have said, hours of adjustments with no luck - verses a few minutes posting the issue here and then a few minutes following the advice given - problem solved. Now I cant believe how well the doors close. This website should be on the front of...

dies at low idle speeds, when put into gear and when stopped.

I used to hate computers in cars, but once time want on and the type of vehicle that I was repairing had OBD2, things got a lot easier. It actually got to the point where OBD2 vehicles were easier to diagnose and fix compared to out old school rigs. But once I got back into working on this older...

dies at low idle speeds, when put into gear and when stopped.

Sounds like he/she is new to the game. I would be happy to diagnose it in person and help them out with the problem free of charge, but I'm not in that area. Is there anyone in Texas that would be willing to take a look at it, and report the findings in this thread?

Any tricks to getting your SB doors to close easier?

The striker as all the way out. I tried about 10 different positions, and center out works the best. I thought about modifying it so that it could sit further out, but I decided against it. I like the idea of using a mallet to move the seal in further, I will try that for sure. I think that's...

Any tricks to getting your SB doors to close easier?

Shimmed, lubed, adjusted, PCV on the striker. I think its narrowed down to the door seal being new. Once its closed, it forcefully "pops" open when you press the button to open the door. It quickly pops open about an inch and then stops. So I need to somehow "wear out" my new door seal. I wonder...

Hmm. I think the plastic allows the door latch to "shim" its way further out. Allows it to "click" the latch earlier in its rotation. Can anyone corroborate this?

Alright - just spend an hour or so working on it. Passenger side: installed 1/2 PCV (all i had on hand). Result: A-mazing difference! Welp, that side is fixed! Sweet! Driver side: added PCV, lots of hinge adjustments, several shims, several striker adjustments, hammer, etc. Result: About 50%...
