Brake upgrade using GM parts bin...

All squarebody front brakes are single piston. I cannot answer the NBS questions. K

    Why did GM do this???

This is correct. And retain the clamping force for a longer period of time. K

    My other special vehicle

So sorry to hear how this came about, but welcome. I have a GTO a well; mine is a '65. Got it from my dad. https://www.hotrod.com/features/5000-mile-unrestored-1965-pontiac-gto-dragstrip-warrior-new-still-family/ K

How to fix my Front Axle not alligning

Just to expand on this: when the cab is not square on the frame the front end will shoot off in that direction, in order to get the hood to fit between the fenders. Sine the bumper attaches to the frame this will manifest itself as a mismatch in the gap between the end of the bumper and...

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

I'd leave it and just plan on not getting caught in a storm (I'd pull over until it let up anyway). K

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

One more story: I mentioned earlier that water is the bane of any engine induction system engineer's existence. The problem with the GMT800 was that not only was the truck new but the engines were a new design, too. That meant there weren't many around and you sure as heck didn't want to damage...

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

We weren't out of the woods yet, however. The next hurdle was that the engine coolant overflow bottle was on the front of dash. That allowed the assembly plants to evacuate and fill the coolant system prior to fender install. With the battery now on the front of dash that meant the coolant...

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

There are some "architectural" things we did, too, that you might not notice. These were required to even give us a shot at getting in the game. The '96 and beyond GMT400 models had the round element air cleaner on top of the fender, with the battery in the RF corner (passenger front) of the...

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

I hope you don't mind if I share some stories, since I have a minute: The system was capacitized for the "big engines" of the day: the L18 8.1L large block and the 6.2L diesel. Flow restriction specification (from GM Powertrain) was a ridiculous 1" Hg restriction at "max flow", from the...

C10 LS Swap Actual Cold Air Intake

Looks good to me. I did the original design for the GMT800 engine induction system. Many of the part are still in use today. For those of you still considering doing this you might be able to find an airbox at a junkyard and use that as a starting point. K

    V1500 suspension question

Front springs should have a reverse arch, especially if they are the two leaf variety. Rear springs should contact the rear axle directly (no blocks). K

    Frame & undercarriage advise!

'91 Suburban generic info packet: https://www.gm.com/content/dam/company/no_search/heritage-archive-docs/vehicle-information-kits/chevrolet/1991-Chevrolet-Suburban.pdf For '91 code 22 is "Brilliant Blue Metallic" - but you really can't go by the noun names. Recall "Carousel Red" on a Pontiac...

    Drip Rail Sealant

This is correct. Sort of a super thin two-sided black adhesive tape. The screws had sort of a waxy daub on the end which spread across the threads when installing. K

    Newer Model Bed

Not a square, but I like them too. The purists will blow a gasket, but I like the way the feature line on the door aligns with the top of the step. K

    80 sq body

    You couldn't get a shortbed in a 3/4 ton. So it's either a K20 that's been cut down - or - (more likely) a K10 with 3/4 ton axles. K

    Frame number

Numbers on the side of the rail are part numbers, date codes and supplier info. The partial VIN will be on the top of the upper flange of the frame rail under the passenger compartment and will be in the format of Model year Final assembly location Serial portion of VIN Like EF123456 Where E...

    Reverse light options

I'm out, because I used a toggle switch. The thing I liked about the toggle is I could flip the lights on for doing stuff around back in the dark, like hooking up the trailer. K

    is this a Frankentruck?

    Works for me: https://www.gm.com/content/dam/company/no_search/heritage-archive-docs/vehicle-information-kits/chevrolet-trucks/1985-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf
  19. Keith Seymore

    is this a Frankentruck?

GMC is the same. A GMC is a Chevy plus RPO Z88 (Or a Chevy is a GMC plus RPO X88, depending on your perspective). Designed by same guys, went down the same assembly line (sometimes on the same truck). K
  20. Keith Seymore

    is this a Frankentruck?

You are looking in the right spot for the (partial) VIN on the frame. There will not be a stamp up by the steering gear or motor mounts for the 1985 model year like there was for some earlier years. The one under the cab will be on the top surface of the top horizontal flange of the rail. The...

    Rear Splash Panel

Both. That particular panel would come and go. Those kind of things get added to address a specific issue and then, during periods of austerity, get cut as a cost reduction measure. K

Figuring out which Speedo gear I need for my vehicle. help!

As far as the speedo not working - you can pull that little housing and slip the gear out. You would be able to buy that same gear, like if it's green you can buy a replacement green gear...

Figuring out which Speedo gear I need for my vehicle. help!

That is quite a machine. To get the rear axle ratio: a) For open rear diff - mark the tire and drive shaft. Jack up one tire and rotate the tire twice and count how many times the shaft goes around. Ie, if the shaft goes 3.5 times then maybe 3.42 (or 3.40, depending on axle type). If it...

Figuring out which Speedo gear I need for my vehicle. help!

A few comments: a) Pics? b) I don't think the fact that it is a busette makes any difference. A 700R4 is the same regardless of what chassis it is sitting in. c) Need to know rear axle ratio and tire size to choose the correct gear d) If the speedo works but the reading is off...
