    TH350 shifting troubles

Check your external shift linkage for anything loose, etc. If nothing out of the ordinary is observed, drop the pan and see if you have a bunch of burnt clutch material at the bottom...If so, it's likely the remains of your low reverse clutch pack. Trans would have to come out for overhaul.

    Slow Climb To The Top

You're welcome...For some reason i had it in my head you have a TH350 but since you have a TH400, you wont have any kick down cable but instead, a detent solenoid. Check that detent solenoid by dropping the pan and visually inspecting the solenoid and its wire for wear. There's a little metal...

    Slow Climb To The Top

    Slow Climb To The Top

Hey man, responded to your post on Youtube - here's the copy: I'm thinking either kick down cable possibly out of adjustment, kick-down valve sticking in its bore in the valve body or vacuum modulator system not functioning...I'd first check vacuum at the modulator to ensure you have at least...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

That sounds like you're leaning towards a TH400 with a gear vendors overdrive unit bolted onto the back of it. The 4L80E would serve both functions but the former would be purely mechanical with (as far as I know) no PCM/ECM/Electronic control..You'd just have the detent solenoid in the...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

So what type of transmission do you want? If an automatic, what would you prefer to have? The choices could range from a TH350/400 to a 10L90 but prob lies somewhere in between...Given you're likely installing a 6.2, perhaps upgrading it's power output a bit and want overdrive, I'd recommend a...

    4L80E Information Thread

There are some situations having the TC remain in lock up through cruise-down can be detrimental but I don't yet know the specifics so won't say until I can get some concrete info (hopefully early next week). The stock shaft is reliable to about 850 HP or so depending but around 800 HP is where...

Good question. I have a couple inquiries out to some builder/tuner friends of mine so will respond as soon as I hear back (I dont do tuning yet). Meanwhile, others may chime in as well beforehand...

    Should I replace?

One should have been included in your paper and rubber kit aka overhaul kit - perhaps double check....Also, if the 2-3 acc piston you have is plastic, replace it with an aluminum one. If you still cant find it, any local transmission parts supplier will have one for you.

    th400 clutch drum steels /

Ive done it numerous times over the years, never had any issues with performance, function or reliability. If they do have a difference in friction coef, it's not material based on my own personal experience - perhaps yours was/is different...

    th400 clutch drum steels /

Sure, no reason you couldnt. Proper clearance is much more important vs mixing steels with/without coatings . That said, kolene-coated steels arent generally needed in a TH400 unless you're doing something really heavy duty-oriented.

    4L60E Information Thread (Includes 4L65/70/75)

Bumping this thread with a new video on 700R4 and 4L60E Forward Drum Repair...The most common pattern failure, by far, is the 3-4 clutch pack burning up...The primary reason for this in my view, is leaks developing at the base of the input shaft where it's pressed into the drum...Over time...

    Help diagnose squeak/squeal?

Get the truck up on all four jack stands (or a lift), put the key on, engine off thn shift the trans into neutral. Then go under the vehicle and spin the drive shaft clockwise as it would spin when in Drive - if you hear squealing sound coming from the transmission, record it the post it to...

    4L80E Clearance Issues?

I'm not Bextreme but if you can tell me how you plan on using the vehicle, engine power, frequency of high rpm use, frequency of heavy towing/hauling (if any), i can tell you what transmission, of the ones listed above, will meet your needs, given you're weighing ease of installation...

    Should I replace?

Hmm..not likely you completely burnt it up as described by failing to check fluid level, unless you have reason to believe it was leaking and low to begin with. I ask as the forward clutch is always applied when you're in a forward pattern range position (Drive, D2 and D1 aka Manual Low) so it's...

    Th350 spews fluid

Do you hear any pump whine or other unusual noises or experiencing drivability symptoms? If not, it shouldn't hurt anything to continue driving it...some fluid may vent from the tube on the top of the case as it relieves the excess. Also, please quote my post when you reply - I don't get...

@kenneth1669 - Why did the forward clutch get so burnt up like that? What was the direct cause?

    Should I replace?

Take the piston out of the forward drum then thorougly clean and inspect it. Once you have done so, if there is no structural damage, bluing or other concerns like worn input shaft splines, it can prob be reused. For your reference...

    700R4 TCC Lockup Issues
