Has anyone used an Edelbrock Rochester Quadrajet carburetor?

What part number do you hace? I have 2 of the Edelbrock 1910 (the 850cfm version) carbs, without a doubt the best carb I have personally owned. I had a 750, 850, and 950HP series Holley on my Olds, the all ran just a tad slower and didn’t drive nearly as well as the Q-Jet. Depending on what...

Speedometer refuses to work. Any help is appreciated

Is the drive gear in the output shaft? Raise and properly support the rear of the truck so the termites are free to turn. Disconnect the speedo cable, put the shifter on neutral. Spin the driveshaft by had, make sure the driven speedo gear turns. If not, you need to figure out why. There...

Used a drill to check speedometer forgot I had drill on two and the speedometer spun all the way around

I have used a 20v Dewalt cordless drill to check the function of the Gear Vender on my car. It’s designed to automatically engage at around 45mph, the drill makes it easy to check. Right at 45 mph you can hear the solenoid click. Anyway, my drill will easily put the speedometer needle at 115...

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

My sons 92 Yukon had been sitting for 20 years before he bought it. When we decide to tear into the A/C we replaced the head hoses (something had chewed holes in the hoses) I replaced all the o rings, I attempted to replace the orifice tube, unfortunately I couldn’t get it to come out and...

    Transmission cooler ideas

One step forward, 2 steps back. Combine with the “Might as Well”, means my transmission swap is taking much longer than anticipated. I have had this transmission sitting on a shelf for years, I thought I had gathered all the parts and little things I’d need. HA! Got my TV cable brackets sorted...

Odd “knocking” noise at high RPM while WOT

When in doubt, cut the oil filter open. If there is internal issues, you will see the shrapnel in the filter long before you hear anything. If the filter is clean, safe to say it’s not a disaster problem. What’s the total timing, and does the vacuum advance make a difference?

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

The rule of thumb is 134A charge capacity is 80% of the R12. I have done many 134A conversions with zero changes, they all worked well. There are minor differences, since 134A isn’t as good a refrigerant, there is room for improvement. The 134A condensers are more efficient, and I wouldn’t be...

    General Motor Swap Questions

As long as the distributor and carb are tuned correctly there should be no issue using them. As far as the water pump, that’s a pretty cheap part. Unless it’s fairly new I’d personally replace it. It would suck to get the truck running well only to have it start leaking a week later. As far as...

    Wrong tv cable???

Greetings. I finally had a reason to swap the 700 into my 455 olds powered 81 GMC. I built the 350c not long after I did the 455 swap, I finally killed it. I built the 700 a few years ago in anticipation of this day. The trans supposedly came from a 91 caprice 9C1 cop car. It definitely is a...

Dual axle trailer brakes worth it?? Pic's inside

30 years ago I went to college in Dayton Ohio, I made the Indy to Richmond drive every weekend for 2 years. I70 was under construction then, I don’t think it has ever stopped. As bad as indiana roads are, there are sections of I69 in Michigan near Lansing that are 10 times worse.

Dual axle trailer brakes worth it?? Pic's inside

Indiana must have received a HUGE amount of money for road repairs recently. There is more construction happening now than I can ever recall. Years ago indiana use to have license plates with a slogan that said”Wander Indiana”. I think it needs to make a return, with all the detours I have...

    1987 Chevy v10 parasitic draw

Watch this: If you pull all the fuses and the draw is still there, disconnect all of the alternator wiring. If the draw is still there, then something is wired that isn’t fused in the fuse box. If the draw is gone with the alternator disconnected, you have a leaky diode in the alternator.

Dual axle trailer brakes worth it?? Pic's inside

What’s your car and truck worth? In my opinion it’s a no brainer. My first car trailer had brakes on just the front axle, you could tell the brakes were better after adding rear brakes. I have heard numerous people say Indiana requires brakes on each axle. The story I heard is dealers get...

    Gear Vendors OD

I have a gear vender in my Olds. While it does work and do what it’s intended to do, if I were to do it over again I’d go 4L80 without hesitation. The ability to program shift points and shift quality is a huge benefit. The lockup converter is probably the biggest benefit. I did a couple...

Best way to run power from truck battery to trailer winch. Quick disconnect ends.

I have a harbor freight 12k winch mounted on my trailer. I power it with the largest automotive battery that would fit in a battery box. I have the trailer wired to charge the battery whenever it plugged into the truck thru the 7 way plug. As long as you have a good battery it should hold a...

Instrument Panel Lights Staying on When Truck is Off

Unplug the headlight switch. If the dash lights go out, the headlight switch is powering the lights when it shouldn’t. I’d call the manufacturer first, maybe they have some other ideas.

Where are you tapping into for ACC power?

There are 4 power taps on the left side of the fuse box that are hot in acc and run, they are protected by the GAUGES fuse. There are a couple fuse taps labeled BAT that are powered at all times, they are protected by the courtesy lamp fuse or circuit breaker if door lock equipped. If the acc...

Bingo!! One piece case confirms it. Easiest way to tell a TH250 from a th350 is the band adjusting screw on the drivers side of the case.

six cylinder won't start in the morning

Let it sit overnight. Don’t move the throttle, remove the air filter housing. Once again, don’t touch the throttle, open the choke plate. Look down the throttle bore, and look at the accelerator nozzle while you move the throttle. You should see a solid stream of fuel. If not, either the carb is...

    Power door lock conversion

I used G body lock actuators on my 81. The actuator is pretty common, it’s used in S-0, later full sized trucks, vans, big cars, your local junkyard is probably full of them. Will the door latches from the later trucks fit the earlier doors? If I remember correctly, there is a separate...

    Modulator vacuum line

Steel line with a couple inches of rubber hose on the ends for the connection. Todays useless bit of tech: ever wonder why GM put that loop in the modulator line? It’s to prevent condensation from collecting in the modulator. Let me explain. Imagine a bunch of short trips in cold damp...

Is there a good spot for keyed power under the hood?

Get a fuse box of your choice, use a relay to power the fuse box from a fusible link connected to the battery. Use the wiper power feed, HEI power wire, or an unused ignition power port on the original fuse box to trigger the relay.

The Full mark on the dipstick should be even with the parting line of the case/pan. Obviously, this will require pan removal to verify.
