Tack weld or no tack weld for oil pick up to pump.

It doesn't have to get the spring very hot to damage it. Pull it out, tack the pickup in at least a couple of spots, then put 'er back in.

    Sell 350 K10 for 454 K10

Why is this even a question??? Once you've experienced the raw torque of a big block, you'll throw rocks at smallblocks...and the bigger, the better!

    Heads-intake help

If you want to keep TBI and run Vortec heads, I have an intake that I picked up at a swap meet that's made just for that - TBI mounts on top and bolts to Vortec heads. Not re-worked, made this way. PM me if you're interested, I don't think I'll be using it.

Pulling the 1986 5.7 Broken Cam

You now have the elusive 3/4 cam from back in the day!!! Put it on the shop wall on a board and label it that way. The engine you have is definitely not from a '96, that was the first year for Vortec heads and those aren't, they're TBI. This should be a direct bolt-up from the one you took out.

Min Starters not all created equal

Back in the day...Dad had a late 60's Ford that ate starters like Cheerios. Dad swore up and down that when they started building a Ford truck, they suspended a started from the ceiling by a piece of wire and built the whole truck around it. It was a royal pain to change and I swapped my share...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Every single performer I've seen had peanut ports. You can match them to the port at the entry, but can't get far enough in to do any good. The idea is to gradually get smaller from the beginning of the port under the carb all the way to the valve - this speeds up velocity and helps maintain...

What is it like to have a floor?

Auroragirl, does your truck have an engine or do you Fred Flinstone it everywhere?

Min Starters not all created equal

Keep in mind that the later model mini starters have ceramic magnets in them. I'm sure some of you here have had the old 100lbs starter crap out on you when they get worn and won't even turn over. A couple of whacks with a hammer usually broke it loose and it would work fine for a while...

What is it like to have a floor?

I'm constantly amazed at what you rust belters have to put up with in the way of trucks. I just bought an '86 longbed that came with a short bed AND short frame for a grand. Totally rust free - rockers, fenders, floors actually still have factory paint. I do count myself lucky, though. I...

    Big Block Vortec Heads

Sorry so late to this thread but... Dump the Performer intake. It's peanut port and will cause a significant restriction. L29 heads are LARGE OVAL, just like the old 781, 049, etc. and you can easily see this when you line 'em up with a gasket. You've already found out that the rocker stud...
