    Engine Bay Wiring

    You have the main power cable that goes from the battery to the starter. The main engine wiring harness should have a heavy wire that is on the main starter terminal with the battery cable, and that feeds to your main fuse block. It should have a fusable link just a few inches from the starter.

    I should have taken pictures, but I didn't. I don't know how long they were in use, but they were no longer effective. I build about 150 Quadrajets a year, so I see lots of interesting things.

    I agree with the comments above. Typically, if a vehicle pulls hard during braking, it is a rear brake problem. First thing I would do, would be to adjust the rear shoes and make sure the drums aren't too far worn for shoes to engage.

    That would indicate there is still a vacuum leak somewhere. But make sure engine is warm and choke is all the way off, and engine is idling at regular rpm, not fast choke idle.

    to build it right, it does cost a good bit. I did a comparison sheet and showed cost of about $200 to do all the stuff I do on each build, for only slightly more. Good parts aren't cheap, and cheap parts cost you more in the long run. Stay away from the parts store kit junk!!

    That hot air choke will pull a good bit of vacuum, so try to seal up that intake tube. You can adjust the fast idle with the small flat blade screw facing front of truck on passenger side of carb, under the choke system. With choke set, adjust that screw to set fast idle speed.     It would be wrong to say "I replace all parts", as some original, removable parts don't wear and need replacing, such as float fulcrum, check ball screw. Read my price page linked above and you see what all I replace new. Much more than a "kit" provides.

    On your check engine light, my 89 had that and would run rough. It was carbon build up. I heard that was common on these in the EGR system. I ran some Lucas system cleaner through my tank and ran it wide open throttle on some drives and it helped. I didn't want to pull the intake.
