What have you done to your square lately??

Nearly set it on fire. Fuel line cracked and sprayed gas all over the engine. Was just bringing it out of winter hibernation too.

I want to add some patina to my truck

It all depends on how much work and money you want to put into it. The easy way is to park it next to a sand pile when its windy. Using a sandblaster at a distance can work too. Or you can wet sand. I suggest wet sanding and using red/maroon scuff pads. The idea is to remove the original...

I believe the NP231C tranfer case would also work for you as it is floor shift and has the vss in it.

    "oh crap" handles...

Ive been looking into doing the same thing on my outfit. Ive been looking into using the handles out of a newer truck and bolting them to A pillar using screws with solid hollow wall anchors....

    Cracked frame at steering gear

Fish plate it and then box the framerail or weld in a brace from frame to front crossmember. Its pretty common with the 4x4 guys who hammer on their trucks.

    12" lift

On a 12" lift I'd look into a dropbox over a doubler(203/205) setup. You can get the gearing you need thru the box to match up with your axles for play or highway as they are quick change gears. It also reduces driveline angles which helps u-jouints last longer. As for the axles Im with...

    my beater 61 apache

I had a '61 in the orange & white, sold it to a friend years ago, have no idea what ever happened to it. Sold my '66 here this spring, been kicking myself ever since. These are some of the coolest trucks out there even if they dont have the following of the other model years. Chevy never should...

    how high for 33's

I have a 3" body lift( hate it but it came with truck)and I fit 35's. If you don't want to trim fenders and are never planning on going any bigger than a 33" tire get the 2" suspension lift, if planning on going to bigger tires one day get the 4"

    lift idea

I wouldn't go with a 4" lift unless your going to go to a 35" tire. Your tires will look too small for the truck. I was running a 3" body lift and my tires(32") looked too small but 35's look just right. You should be fine with your driveshafts with up to a 4" lift, but you may have binding...

    Picking up my 14bff & D44.

Swapping to the dics shaves a bunch of unspung weight. I run 4:10s in my outfit on 35's now and the rpms are around 21-2300 at 60mph. If your not running on the road( pavement ) a whole bunch just weld( licoln locker) the rear end, the 14bff hold up pretty well to it, look up " orb of traction"...

square beats out ford and dodge on top gear

Watched the episode last week, glad a square body won but was kinda confused at the Ford. It blew a ujoint on the back axle, why could it not continue on just the front axle? Granted it would have probably needed a tow here and there, but I would have rather seen it continue on. I agree with the...

    rear springs

Trailering with flipped shackles is okay, but remember that it lifts the truck, which changes the COG making truck more unsteady. I would suggest an equalizer hitch, the heavier duty shackles and swap to 56" springs( search the junkyards to find for cheap) to get a smoother ride.

    Never Seen One Of These.

I spotted one on Ebay the other day. I've been wanting to build an extended cab square but I was going to start with a crew cab or suburban and cut rear doors down and weld them in solid so I would have roll down rear windows like the new trucks.

    Axle swap

I agree with the others, the D60 looks pretty sketchy at the spring pad. If PO had the center section removed, turned and rewelded to the axle tubes, the "C"s should be sitting in the correct place(like factory) If they are not then its just a hack job upturned pinion. A few more pics of the...
