TBI 454 - A Few Ongoing Gremlins and Upgrade Questions

I randomly throw a 32 code on the highway now that I have the vacuum line from the solenoid to the valve plugged. Before that, nothing. As for anything else, no codes! The truck runs great otherwise.

TBI 454 - A Few Ongoing Gremlins and Upgrade Questions

Hey Jim, thank you for replying! :) I put the o2 bung down in the collector (hence the 3-wire upgrade).

TBI 454 - A Few Ongoing Gremlins and Upgrade Questions

Let me start off by listing the vehicle info and upgrades I've made to the truck/engine this far... 1987 V30 Crew Cab TBI 454 (60,000 original miles) with a 4L80E on a Compushift II Standalone Controller. The truck pretty much sat for 16 years before I bought it. A lot of...

    Looking for a long bed

Make sure you get one off an '85 or newer as the fuel filler necks are different. OR you will have to take the filler neck assemblies off your donor pre-'85 so they will mount properly to the bed. If you happen to be passing through Reno, I have a good condition rust free pre-'85 bed that I...

    Melted TPS and Connector!

If you want to do this cheaper than a full pigtail kit, you can just get a 3-way Weatherpack connector. For the cost of a single TPS pigtail at Napa, I got 20 male and 20 female connectors (have to put them together yourself) from Summit. Here is the Painless single pack...

    Crew Cab Floor Mat Options

I know ACC and Llyods and others offer custom fit mats for our rigs, but what is out there in a rubber all weather type of mat that fits properly? I looked at Khusky and the model they call for on my crew can is a universal and fits like shit. My dad got me some stock GMC rubber floor mats...

Evil Crew Cab - Suspension Time! HELP!!!

So, now that the interior is winding down and nearly complete, it's time to focus on suspension. I haven't built one of the square body trucks in a while and I know things have changed and there are more options...so I will lay it out in order... The truck is a 1987 V30 Crew Cab 1. Front...

    LED Interior Lights

Ya, you have to use the LEDs sparingly or at least comprehend the type of LED and the output rating to get it right without making it too bright and/or causing hot spotting like you have...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

Okay, apparently I did fry the sending units when the pink wire (circuit 30) got smashed and grounded between the frame and bed...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

I already looked at that and tried eliminating the selector valve from the equation by manually jumpering a wire between each tank's sending unit feed directly to the pink wire (circuit 30) and found no change. So the selector valve cannot be the issue. At this point I have done days of...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

I wish...even just finding some of the wiring schematics proved to be a nightmare! The one I showed above with the Hot Fuel Module (>8500gvwr & 454 TBI) were so obscure that some of my GM tech friends had no clue about them!

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

A diode will not help in this situation unless the micro-switch in the tank selector valve is bad. The whole point of the level sensor signal going throught the selector valve is that it will only feed one of the sending unit signals to the gauge at a time.

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

I even just went out and ran a completely new pink wire (circuit 30) from each sending unit up to the firewall bulkhead to find no difference. I really think it has to be the sending units in the tanks, but that just seems odd to me! On a side note, the selector valve does not switch over when...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

The dash switch is a brand new GM piece and the selector valve isn't the problem because even when I bypass the level sensor signal by pulling the 6-way connector off and jumpering the signal wire directly, it still does it...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

The weird thing is, both tanks have their own grounds. As you can see in this photo, the sending units simply have 12v+ feeds going into the bucket and the sending unit and pump are both grounded to the top of the bucket from the inside. You will see the ring terminal wire next to the...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

You are correct, but the weird thing is, when the tank gets low, the gauge rears a tick above E...in both tanks... Plus I have traced the pink wire (circuit 30) which is the wire from the selector valve all the way to the gauge. No visible problems with it and it worked perfectly until the...

Dual Tank 1987 TBI Fuel Gauge Issue - Please Help

So, for the last month and a half (or longer) I have been troubleshooting an issue that simply keeps evolving and getting more and more complex. One night, the fuel gauge was working perfectly, I drive home and shut the truck down. When I went out a couple hours later, the fuel gauge pegs way...

    LED Interior Lights

The LEDs mount into the same sockets as the stock bulbs, they are a replacement 168/194 bulb. The ones I chose have a side firing diode on each side so they don't cause glare and hot spotting. There are (5) LEDs for the backlighting of the gauges and (7) for the various indicator lamps. I...

    LED Interior Lights

The dimmer is only about 25% of what an incandescent bulb is, but the whole point of these was to make the dash brighter that stock, dimmer function isn't necessary because I chose these LEDs exactly because they had no forward facing diodes and this not hot spotting or intense glare/light...
