    Serpentine Conversion

Nice! other than the power steering pump being bad that is... I was able to get over and work on mine for a bit today. Ended up needing to add 1.25" spacers between the ac compressor and it's mounting holes. compressor was hitting the valve cover so it was the only way I could do this with...

    Carb help

Not sure if anyone answered your questions about those items in the pictures or not. One of those items you have labeled as "WHat is This?" is going to be a switch for the torque converter lockup. If I remember right, it's the one that has the brown and yellow wires coming out the back of it...

    Serpentine Conversion

It will do for now. Once I get this thing all done and running again, I'll run it for the winter, and then if I feel I need to I'll order a new cs144. I did run into another hiccup today. I went to bolt up the AC/PS bracket and it turns out it doesn't want to play nice with the tall valve...

    Serpentine Conversion

welp, had the old man check the adapter that showed up yesterday, the si to cs adapter clips right up, so my alternator is definitely a cs series alternator. just not sure which one. doesn't really matter as it will be an upgrade from the old one that was in the truck. While I'm at it and...

    Serpentine Conversion

The more I look at it, the more I want to say that the alternator is the AD244... which means I will be needing a new adapter lol. Does swapping to this alternator still require me to get/make an adapter with a resistor in it? My truck has a voltage gauge but not a dummy light.

    Serpentine Conversion

Ok Gents, so here's what I have so far. I'm about half way done with my conversion and ran into a couple small unexpected hiccups that were easily taken care of. I made a trip out to a local junk yard where I picked up a water pump pulley, a used alternator from a 1997 suburban, not 100%...

    Serpentine Conversion

I haven't picked up the alternator yet. When I go on days off I'll go to the junkyard and pick up all the parts they have waiting for me. I'll also get to working on that pulley from the junkyard. My truck is truly going to be a Frankenstein truck hahaha. Gonna have to write a book about all...

    Serpentine Conversion

Right on, yea I was planning on getting the new water pump because of the reverse rotation. One question about that pump, it has 3 ports on it, 2 of which are on the top, the left one on the top is a bypass port right? I should be able to just plug that off and hook the rest of the hoses up the...

    Serpentine Conversion

Ok Gents, I'm getting ready to do my serpentine conversion on my 86 gmc k1500. I've picked up a donor 350 out of a 99 k1500. It was free so hopefully it will work. I can already tell that the idler pully needs to be replaced because it's loud as heck when I spin it by hand. I've got most of...

    15 inches of vacuum

What is your timing set at? Try advancing it until you stop gaining in vacuum and then back it off till your vacuum drops 1". Not 100% sure on this but I don't think messing with idle mix screws will increase/decrease vacuum. Mainly I think it will just get it to steady out. Advancing...

Cant get my engine to run. Please help!

When you cleaned your carb what all did you do? How far into it did you dig in? Most mechanical fuel pumps will put out around 7psi. This is even a hair high for most edelbrocks. I recently swapped my old worn out 350 for a 400 that I built. The new fuel pump i installed was putting out...

Cant get my engine to run. Please help!

what gets me is that you said you turned both fuel/air screws all the way in and it stays running. It should die if you do this. If this is the case then I would check to make sure you don't have too much fuel pressure. If it is overpowering the needle/seat and the float it could be flooding...

    Time for an Engine build

Got the quadrajet fairly well tuned up. Advanced my timing to about 14 degrees and it really seems to like it there. Replaced my spark plug wire ends and the truck runs pretty well now. Just a couple fine tuning changes to make on the carb and i should be good to go. After I got it all...

    Cooling fan horsepower

OK fellas, so if I'm looking to do an electric fan conversion, what would be the best donor vehicle to pick one from? I'm running a slightly built 400 sbc with aluminum heads and long tube headers. 185 degree thermostat also. While we are at it, whats a good replacement radiator also. I'll...

    Time for an Engine build

well I figured out the RPM issue. Took the truck up to the transmission shop that built my transmission so I could have them verify that I had the TV cable set properly. Went for a spin with the owner of the shop and he said everything felt good as far as shifting goes but it wasn't going into...

    Time for an Engine build

I think the tach is fairly accurate. I had a Bosch timing light hooked up to the truck when we were setting the timing and the rpms displayed on the light were pretty damned close to what was on my tach. I will say this, while I love my intellitronix dash, I don't love the fact that the tach...

    Time for an Engine build

Welp, she's done for the most part. Finally drove it home today after changing the back brakes, replacing the steering wheel and the turn signal cancel cam. It's running decent for having a carb on it that sat for 8 years, but I think once the qjet gets back again and installed it will run...

    700r4 cross member spacers

Ok, next question, am I hurting anything by having the spacers between the cross member and the frame? As far as I can tell all it did was decrease the angle on the driveshaft and that's generally a good thing right? If I gotta swap them back the way they were then oh well it will only take...

    700r4 cross member spacers

Ok, so I had to drop my transmission to send it off to be rebuilt and swapped to a new case because the old case was cracked. When i went to pull the cross member I noticed that the bolts had spacers on them, but they were not between the cross member and the frame rails. The cross member was...

4x4 Transmission torque rods - Big block specific

Yea so after looking at it some more I think i'm for sure gonna have to just make something up myself. After market headers are pretty much directly in the way of this thing so I'll have to just fab something up. Thanks for the info guys!

4x4 Transmission torque rods - Big block specific

Thanks Craig. I have the correct cast aluminum inspection plate but it is cracked so the guy that is rebuilding my transmission is going to find me the inspection plate. I also already have the bar that goes from the transfer case up to the bell housing. I'm just having a hell of a time...

    torque struts

I have an 86 gmc k1500. I need the torque struts (I think thats what they are called) that go from the motor mounts to the transmission bellhousing. anyone got anything that will work for me?

4x4 Transmission torque rods - Big block specific

not trying to hijack your thread, but anyone have an official name for these torque rods? or a part number? During my engine swap, we noticed these were non existent on my truck and I figure since I've got about 5k into my motor and new transmission it might not be a bad idea to get these...

Choosing a small block for my truck

I would fill it with 89 first and run it with that. Keep a spare bottle of octane boost in your truck when you do. If you fill it with 89 and it starts to ping add the octane boost and that should stop the pinging until you use up the 89 octane you put in.
