    Engine issues.

I have read where one of the "off road" fixes for the Edelbrock carbs is to take either some fuel resistant epoxy or a very short piece of fuel line and block the fuel vent/transfer passageway at the rear of the carb. When you pull the top of the carb off, you'll see the passageway at the rear...

    406 cam

I built a 406 for a boat years ago. There is lots of build/cam info via an internet search as the 406 is a terribly common build these days so you probably won't get much advice here. If I remember correctly, most builds favored a dual pattern cam for low end grunt but a single pattern might...

    REAR DISK CONVERSION

I put the Lugnut kit on my '84 14 bolt rear. Instructions suck but its pretty self explanatory. I have some pics of my install if needed..... at least I think I have some pics!

Help with a 396 build in a work truck

Wow, what a thread this has turned into. 8.1/Ls etc ! ;) I just need a rig that will give me the power I need when loaded on the flat bed at 4000lbs +/- in 4x4 low in the sand/marbles and then maintain highway speeds on flat ground for 5-7 miles. While all the advice has been considered, I'm...

Help with a 396 build in a work truck

Thanks for all the info. I'll try selling the running bbc first, and if it doesn't sell, plan on the torque monster rebuild

Help with a 396 build in a work truck

I posted this last year about a 1894 K20 rebuild for use on the beach in AK hauling fish. That truck project is finished and running fine. I now have 1980 K20 with wrecking yard BBC in it. I thought it was a 454 but block casting numbers show to be a 1970 396/402 truck motor with -950 heads...

    First time engine rebuild

It was a long block. Pretty low Hp if I remember correctly, I want to say 240hp. You could check Jeg's website.

    First time engine rebuild

I just debated rebuild vs crate motor for my work truck. It was a few hundred $$$ less to rebuild provided I didn't need any "out of the ordinary" machining done. I ended up going with the Jegs crate motor delivered for 1600.00. I swapped in a "grunt" cam, Performer intake and Qjet and it runs...

    So what is leaking here.......

Ok, so the axle seal would be different than the inner hub seal then? I'm thinking that if I pull the "cap" off with the 8 bolts in it at the end of the axle, that I wouldn't find a seal correct? guess I need to find the manual or an online pic.

    So what is leaking here.......

New to me 1980 K20 project truck. As you can see, its had a rear disc brake conversion. Both ends of the 14 bolt FF axle look like this. Having never torn into a FF to know what seals are at the outboard ends, does this look like a leaky axle seal or leaky brake caliper?

    4.10 to 4.56 or 4.88

Many have asked why I put so much $$ into such an old truck. Working on the beach in the salt water kills both the electronics and the sheet metal so I don't want anything with a computer in it if possible. So, if I bought some old 3/4 or 1 tons in AK of the vintage prior to computers, they are...

Me too, I've got some big bills to pay after the minor 15K rebuild on this rig!

    4.10 to 4.56 or 4.88

Upon MIkeB's recommendation I went with the Crane 2020 in my new build. 1984 K20 with rebuilt 700R4, Np208, Gm crate engine, 4.88's and 315 (35") Cepek Extreme Country tires. The truck left Chico CA last Friday with my buddy driving it with a load on the flat bed deck and towing two empty boat...

    Needed: 1984 700R4 wiring diagram

I don't have a sticker in the glove box but rather on the drivers side inner fender. I'll have to check it for exact details on the trans. I believe I'm good to go on the wiring diagram as I found something online. The trans shop owner was interested in the 3 wires coming from the vac switch...

    Needed: 1984 700R4 wiring diagram

Yes, original gas K20 with 700R4 and all stock wiring for the tranny. I did find a good diagram online that shows a real simple wiring circuit using the brake pedal and vac switch with either one or two wire servos in the trans.

    Needed: 1984 700R4 wiring diagram

The trans shop and I are wrestling with the wiring on my '84 K20. Engine is now a non smog crate 350 with newly rebuilt 700R4/Np208. We are are having issues with the wiring from the trans to the brake pedal switch and at the vac switch next to the vac brake booster. My Haynes manual doesn't...

How is 700r4 lock up controlled in a 1984?

Its currently in CA but headed to AK (where I registered it when I bought it a few months ago) so no smog needed forever and ever! :)

How is 700r4 lock up controlled in a 1984?

It was originally a CA emissions truck based on decals under the hood. The drivers side fender decal does say something about "heavy over drive transmission" or something to that effect. The Vin makes it a gas engine also.

Hmmm, there ia county jail in Oroville, 25 south of Chico but nothing here in Chico proper that I know of. Are you sure you're not referring to "Chino"? Maybe they have a jail there.

Prison? Are you meaning Susanville? That is the nearest prison that I know of (2+ hrs away) and I have never set foot on the premises! I do however do a bit of fishing at Eagle Lake, just outside of Susanville.
