    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Back at long last with an update, progress has been at a standstill the last couple weeks since my welder has been living at work for a project there. Finally picked it back up today and got the engine mounts done Made the main mount tabs by just tacking a piece of 1/4" flatbar to the table...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Currently deciding between which way to do it now. I can either toss the plates I have and make new ones out of angle iron to allow me to run the plate at a shallower angle, or keep these and stand it up steeper and then just bend it midway down to match the isolator angle and make supports...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Decided I didn't like the mounts I was building, was gonna hang everything too low and was way overcomplicated Cut the nut sections off the brackets I was building Reinstalled the factory engine mount brackets Isolators fitted up to the brackets. With this I should be able to just run a 1/4"...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Not a ton, they only make around 240 lbft stock, although I'll probably end up turning the fuel up and maybe upgrading the turbo down the road. So probably top pot around mid 300s

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

No sir different engine, the 4bd is basically just an Isuzu 4bt Cummins. It's a 3.9 with almost the same dimensions and 135 gross rated HP. They just run smoother and a little quieter than the Cummins. Oil pan is stock as far as I know, I'm gonna have to modify it myself for sump clearance on...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Pattern ended up being right on, they line up and bolt to the block like factory. Puts the mounts a touch lower than I'd like but not excessively, and redesigning them to bring the mount surface up higher would make the bolts hard to acess. It got dark while these were cooling, spent that time...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Now that brings us to today, where I finally got going on building engine mounts. I decided to use the through bolted rubber isolators from speedway motors. I was planning to use the original engine side mount brackets but matching the 45 on the frame side was gonna be a pain and very tight, so...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Can't find the pictures of me setting the cab so we're just gonna jump-cut to the relative present, the only part that really matters here got the engine and trans bolted together, it's an Isuzu 4BD2T with an NV4500. Custom adapter bellhousing from a man who's no longer in business, but there's...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Cleaned up and painted the new frame after removing all the old junk I wouldn't need off it Set the new suspension under it, new fuel tank, and got a hell of a deal on some 8x6.5 19.5s Had to cut the back couple inches off the frame because of how the wrecker body sits. Made a little...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

So this was the truck when I got it. Run of the mill best down wrecker. Drove a couple hours one way under the promise that it was solid. Got there to find out the frame was smoked. Whatever, ended up getting it for a fraction of the asking price because of that. Found a frame locally in...

    78 K30 4BD2T Frame Off Build

Been a long time since I've been on here, and I've built several trucks but never bothered to post any of them. This one though I figure I'll actually run a thread on, mainly because there's not a lot of in depth info on this swap. I did a lot of searching before starting it and found that...

6.5 mechanical hackjob won't run smoothly

No sir that is my fuel tank for right now. All the intake does on these is route air from the filter to the heads. Nothing more. All I had to do was plug up a few ports for oil pressure sensors and whatnot. My oiling system is completely contained, I have the radiator standing behind the engine...

6.5 mechanical hackjob won't run smoothly

I had a reason, I believe the db wouldn't fit where the ds was but It was a while ago so I can't remember for certain. Or it may have been something else

6.5 mechanical hackjob won't run smoothly

Haha ok a diesel you don't need any of that, the fuel gets sprayed right into the cylinder as opposed to going through the intake so you don't need it for a diesel, and the exhausts don't do a ton for test runs either. Theres oil in it don't worry, again there's no open areas like a gas engine...

6.5 mechanical hackjob won't run smoothly

I take that as a partial compliment, I go by the saying "you can't do it wrong if nobody knows what youre doing"

That's steam from the coolant that's trapped in the back of the black

6.5 mechanical hackjob won't run smoothly

So as the title implies I have a bit of a weird monster here. I pulled a 6.2 outta my k30 that decided it didn't want cylinder 2 anymore, and was given a good deal on a 1997+ 6.5 that had a dead DS4 but low miles and good compression, plus I wanted the turbo for a turbo 6.2 idea. However I saw...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

So I went and picked up a 6.5 yesterday that I found cheap, 95k miles for a few hundred dollars with everything on it. My plan was to rip the turbo setup and heads off it and slap them on my 6.2 and see what happens. One problem, the 6.5 has cracked prechambers. I know they're serviceable if...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

You're not wrong, an hour meter would be great to have here. There never was a PTO setup on this truck or any AC so there's not much reason to leave it running except exactly that, some people just refuse to shut them down lol. Even still though, excessive idling will usually leave you with...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

I believe the mileage on my engine is accurate as they've owned it since it was new, and it was never put in the road much so I don't think it was driven too far. The place wasn't a quarry per se, it was some type of a construction company. Not sure what they did or where they worked at, I...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

Injectors will go to a shop if I end up using them, found a complete 6.5 takeout not far from me for pretty cheap, so I'm gonna whip the whole top end off it and slap in onto my block. The 6.5 don't run, probably a bad IP, bit I don't know for certain. Once I slap the heads on I'll compression...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

Gp system was operational, truck actually started great. The company I bought it from was the original owner, Canton Valley Construction. I cleaned the heads up a little today, I'm gonna bring the injectors to the shop near me on Monday, they do pop testing really cheap and if they have to...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

It seems to have come mostly from the head, I didn't really see any of this when I drained the radiator. It being what's on the pistons could definitely coincide with a bad headgasket. No clue why there's be so much of it, maybe bits from the previous water pump? It was replaced fairly recently.

    6.2 symptom confirmation

I have no idea what it was really, it was a construction company but this was their pit truck according to the id tags, and they said it was never really used on road. Also, while I was cleaning the heads earlier, some coolant dumped out, and this is what it looked like. Appears to be brass bits...

    6.2 symptom confirmation

I haven't yet, I got a little over excited to tear it down and may or may not have forgotten to do a comp check first. None of the cylinders look scored badly, minot scuffing in one or two but it's mostly just seeable, can't feel them with a finger or anything. I think what I'm going to do is...
