"Overheating" --> Now Fuel Delivery Issue --> Dirty Tank?

    Check fuel pressure AND volume.

Fire out of top of carb

Drop something into engine, piece of gasket under valve, crossed plug wires, very lean? Does it run smooth for those 5 seconds if not, check vacuum, broken valve spring, ect. Even if there is excessive fuel it will need spark from somewhere. What else [if anything] was touched/done/ moved...

    Pass. Side header gasket.

Header gaskets need to be heat cycled and re-tightened. Once they start leaking exhaust can burn the gasket up. Might be too late but I have had good luck using high temp silicone. Small bead 3/16" let it set for 20-30 minutes before installation. If the header flange is thin or bent a new set...

    Really weird air conditioning problem

First need flush fluid. Disconnect compressor, remove orifice tube. I don't measure the fluid. Just pour a cup or so in condenser and evaporator, using air hose blow it out. Do not use full pressure, especially on evaporator. Put a rag over the other outlet to avoid a mess and check for...

    Vapor lock or something else?

84 would have vapor recovery: charcoal can. To install one need to reference a vacuum diagram and install the missing parts. Some diagrams are available here. Need a pressure gauge, check wherever accessible usually at the carb inlet. 5-6 lbs is decent. Not sure what the GM spec was. Volume...

    Vapor lock or something else?

If charcoal can is gone that's a problem if not converted correctly. Vented and non-vented caps, return line from pump 2- or 3-line senders. It might be easier to install a charcoal can than pulling tanks and changing the pump. Other than adding the complexity of a few hoses those cans do not...

How often should the a/c cycle while cruising? (Other vehicles)

Air flow and ambient temps, have a lot to do with pressures. If you want to verify that pour a little cold water on the condenser with gauges hooked up.

How often should the a/c cycle while cruising? (Other vehicles)

This is general information not specific to a Liberty. Clutch cycles to prevent condenser freeze up and if refrigerant is low protect the compressor. In order to diagnose it correctly system will need the correct charge. 134A is very sensitive to either over or under charge. After doing that...

    Brake rubbing sound?

Weak return springs on drum brakes can cause noise. Unless the noise is isolated to either front or rear de-squeak both ends. Clean slides, scuff rotors and lube front brakes.

What causes cylinder wear like this?

To me it appears improper bore and or hone finish. Could be ring flutter or excessive ring land wear? The good part, does not appear to be using oil by rings. Unless you want to start over and rebuild again bolt the head on. Re-torquing head bolts is a joke. I think manufacturers put that in...

Car Covers company is a sham dealership, I purchased a Cover for my 86 K10 and used it about two months before it started coming apart.

Have a couple Covercraft covers for inside storage, nice. They do make covers for SB and outside, expensive. Do agree about outside covers doing damage. If in a damp area condensation can get inside cover. Wind may abrade paint on the corners unless cover is tied down really good. However, UV...

    Loss of power and shaking

Applications vairy there could be a port on the manifold itself or may have to find a source on the carb. Running at idle remove lines or vacuum plugs until vacuum is found. May need a T. Depending on engine condition and altitude should be in the area of 18 inches at idle. That will be a good...

    OIL

3000 is rule of thumb. To know actual oil condition at change interval, get an oil analysis done by someone like Blackstone. Results are very revealing in other areas as well.

    Loss of power and shaking

Sounds like RPM related such as broken valve train part or ignition crossfire, bad coil, ect. Drive with a gauge hooked up to manifold vacuum. Use a long hose under rear of partially shut hood. Clamp gauge under a wiper. Go around the block. If vacuum is steady that will eliminate many...

Biggest jobs you have completed in the shortest amount of time.

A week or 2 afterward went to Tri cities for a tow back to Spokane. Tri cities was closer to ground zero. They got 4-6 inches there, here about 2. The county had furrowed the ash into the center of the streets. Was 2' high. Never though it would be possible to ever get rid of the stuff. Took a...

Wheel almost fell off while driving…help

Unless overloaded or abused properly torqued lug nuts do not fall off. That said, GM used hub centric wheels from the factory. Many aftermarket wheels are designed to fit other brands with larger centers. Thus, they are not hub centric on GM. Just something to think about.

Gas out of top of Rochester Carb

Doubtful, spring filter then nut. Why do you ask? Previous posts contain correct instructions. Was the float replaced? Fiber floats get heavy with age. Should never be reused. That's one of the Q-jet negatives. Some may disagree, brass floats are available, my experience they don't float the...

Idle Mixture Screws Do Not Adjust Anything on 1974 454.

That's news to me didn't know that was copied. I don't like much of the new or reproduction parts out there. If you can rebuild/repair OEM stuff your better off. Just today bought an emergency brake cable from a national parts chain. Spent the next 1/2 hour trying to get it to fit. Seems none...
