wheel change - need some input (please)

Hi Everyone, I got my '90 4x4 Suburban back this weekend, it was on loan for the past couple of months. Now I'm thinking about starting to bring it back to life cosmetically. It's not bad, but it does need a few things done to it. One of the first things I can do is refinish or replace...

    87 V10 TBI 350 Questions

Have you checked the temperature sensor on the top of the engine? Sorry if I missed that earlier in the posts. I had similar problems and that had failed (apparently it is common to fail and causes the engine to think its operating temperature is way off, hence effecting the fuel air mix)...

    Suburban Barn Door Seals

I'm late to the conversation on this thread, but I did this to my 90 about 10 years ago and had to take the inside trim off around the windows to actually get things closed down and latched, even after I adjusted the hinges and strikers. I'll get them back on sometime, now I'm just used to it...

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

I hadn't run across Sanden before I googled them just now, are they recommended? As for the PAG - I've read it isn't interchangeable with earlier R12 systems, and with the long lines in the suburban that go all the way to the back, I'm not convinced that all of the old oil has ever been...

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

Put a few hundred miles on the truck - a/c did great until the compressor seized. Good grief, that was new last summer. Looks like I'll have the opportunity to flush some lines out and get some paint on the condenser parts that just went in.

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

That's looking good - wish I had thought about getting out the black paint. Maybe I'll go back in and paint it up a bit.

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

Good luck, it wasn't a bad swap at all once I committed to repositioning the mounts and pushing ahead. You're probably on top of this already but don't forget about adding the additional ester oil needed for a condenser swap. Are you thinking about doing the accumulator and orifice tube too...

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

Hi All, that Oreilly looks like the one - it is certainly a new parallel flow design versus the old condenser that came out. I checked the temperature this morning after walking away from everything for a few days. It was pumping out about 50F (10C) with an outside temperature of 78 and very...

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

I'm away from the truck for a couple of days. Let me pull the temp for you when I get back.

Condenser Replaced - a few pics

Hi All, This past weekend I went through a condenser replacement on the '90 Burb. I had a couple of interesting experiences along the way so I thought I'd post an update. The background to the burb's system is that it was converted several years ago to R134a and over the past few years has...

    seat swapping?!

Great point, I upgraded the radio to Bluetooth a while back, and love putting miles on it still. Great trucks.

What have you done to your square lately??

That's a nice looking plate and unlock button arrangement you've got now. I have considered swapping the electric windows over to manual as they've gotten older and slower, but wondered how the door might look when I pulled the main window switch. Don't know that I'll do it, but this looks...

What have you done to your square lately??

Fun times this weekend: installed a new compressor, accumulator, and expansion tube (noted that I installed the prior one backwards 5 years ago when I did this the last time), pumped it down, filled it with R134 and then ... achieved "luke cold." So today, installed two valves around the...

    quick brake pedal travel question

Hi All, I know I've been spoiled by new brakes on things like my '06 Rainier, but yesterday in a panic stop my 1990 suburban let me punch the pedal to the floor. That doesn't seem right to me (it did stop though). I can't detect any leakage past the cylinder if I just hold the pedal...

What have you done to your square lately??

Whoa, looks great. I just had my intake manifold off of the 350 tbi in the wagon. I cleaned it up and was pleased that it just looked clean again. This puts my work to shame. Really nice stuff there.

What have you done to your square lately??

... and I guess my '90 is still one year away from being a "classic." But the build date is 1989. Regardless, being able to do your own work does save a PILE. I just went through a pretty extensive maintenance cycle on my other 350 TBI (Roadmaster Wagon). Saved a pile but it cost lots of...

What have you done to your square lately??

Stopped by a body shop that specializes in restorations. They only do frame-offs, and thought it would cost about $50k and 12-18mos to tear the burb down and bring it back up. Hmmm. I guess after that I park it in the living room and never drive it again? The guy said that usually they only...

What have you done to your square lately??

Right, the burb does a lot of things well but runnin Hoosiers isn't one of them.

What have you done to your square lately??

I was out on the road (1200 mi in 2 days, go ol' TBI go) and got some new hooves for the suburban along the way when an old tire started to separate. I also got the grill off, cleaned up, and painted a satin black.

What have you done to your square lately??

Right ... That's what helped talk me out of it this time around. It's a great guide though.
