What you reckon it's worth? 76 GMC Sprint

I know a guy who recently sold a decent one, running and driving, for around $12K. Interior needed a little work and original paint was worn. This one looks to be worth less than half that much if you sell it as is. If you can get it on the road and replace the missing trim piece under the...

    Differential gear conundrum

I recently used this stuff instead of a gasket. Be sure the follow the instructions. After applying to one side, you let it set for an hour with the cover bolts just hand-tightened. Then you torque to spec and wait a day before adding diff lube. Not great for someone in a hurry, so shops...

    SAE or synthetic

Well, there is plenty of info on the web about 5w-30 conventional vs. 5w-30 synthetic at very low temperatures. The test below was done at -40C (which happens to be -40F). So, yes, that's not something we're not likely to encounter in most places in the US, but I suspect 5W conventional oil...

    SAE or synthetic

An advantage synthetics have is they flow much better on cold start-up. Very important in cold climates. Also, it's NOT a matter of SAE vs. synthetic. It's conventional vs. synthetic. SAE is Society of Automotive Engineers. So even Mobil 1 can be "good old SAE oil." That said, I use...

    Bouncing speedometer

I've always found that graphite cable lubricant will fix the needle bounce, unless the cable is very old, kinked, or installed using a very tight turn. Even a brand new (especially imported) cable might be dry. I saw grease and oil suggested in another forum. DO NOT use those.

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

I replaced a tired 250-six and 3-speed manual in an 82 C10 with a 350/TH350. Trans crossmember stayed in the same location and driveshaft didn't need to be modified. Same would be true for a Muncie, and I assume a Saginaw 4-speed as well. AutoGear sells an all-new Muncie replacement with a...

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

Thanks Mike, ill keep it in mind! However, I have since ordered the 4bbl Clifford intake (with the adapterl and a 2bbl Weber. I hope this will give me the performance I can use, as well as finally solve the s#!tt¥ carburetor/intake setup that has plagued my truck with issues pretty much since I...

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

Back in the early 90s I had a very basic 81 F150 with the 300-six engine. Later bought an 81 C10 with a 305 for my son. I have to say the Ford had better throttle response, was more fun to drive, and a heck of a lot easier to work on. Of course the Chevy 305 was hampered by, wait for it, a...

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

A 4bbl manifold with a Holley 390 vacuum secondary carb, or even an Edelbrock 500, would not be overkill at all. The small primaries are good for crisp throttle response and the secondaries open no more than required by engine demand. And you won't have to mess around with rare multiple carbs.

What glass setting tape for vent window? (No LMC)

I have used two-sided adhesive tape designed for attaching side trim. Use lots of Windex on both sides to keep things slippery so you can maneuver the tape and glass into place.

    Ring and pinion swap

Carrier "break" for 8.5" 10-bolt is 2.56/2.73. That means 3.73 gears would work with your carrier even if your truck had 2.73 gears. Simply google it. Also, I would opt for a crush sleeve eliminator kit (spacer+shims). That way you don't need to torque the pinion nut to 300 lb/ft or more to...

Opinions on an Engine Swap for 81 C10

I'd go with option #3. I ran the basic 350/265hp Goodwrench engine in a 69 C10 for several years, and it worked great with an Edelbrock #1406 600 cfm carb and dual exhausts. It made good torque at low-mid RPM and got decent fuel mileage. I also put them in a friends' vehicles -- a 55 Chevy...

Lowering kit is lower than expected... issues!!

Hopefully, but they won't help if the tires are rubbing the fender lips on turns. That's an expensive fix! 1-inch taller springs would solve both the inner fender and fender lip problems.

    carburetor size on a 350

Yes, but the Q-jet primaries are tiny for great throttle response, and the secondaries open just enough the satisfy engine demand, which is not 100% open on a 350. That was the beauty of those carbs. You could probably put one on a 265 and it would work just fine running around on the tiny...

'Puff' on start up! valve seals need replacing....

Sounds like what's happening is oil is slowing leaking past guides into cylinder(s) when engine is not running. If your heads don't have push-on seals, oil leaking past guides can be at least temporally cured by installing these "umbrellas" seals on the valve stems under the retainers. Al they...

Gas tank pressure - air rushes out when the the gas cap is unscrewed

I really like the evap system. No gasoline smells in the garage! On my 82 the vent line ran from the tank to the canister, as usual, but then just vented to atmosphere, because I didn't have a purge valve or carb designed to work with it. Still had no gasoline smells because the path to...

Who has Experience with Sunex Low-lift Transmission Jacks?

The bad Amazon reviews seem to be mostly from guys doing heavy duty truck work. I'd say it would probably work fine with any auto trans you'd find in a car or light truck. However, if you buy it from Summit, they will take care of you if you have a problem. They will also match the lowest...

    Terrible Gas Mileage

Did it get better mileage in the past? Does the engine run as well as it always has? Does it by any chance have an old cat convertor? How about a closed heat riser valve? Does your 1985 model have an electronically controlled Q-Jet? Depending on axle ratio and tire height, 12-14 mpg should...

    Best Cordless Tools?

I only have one Milwaukee tool, a heat gun. It looks and feels like quality, and it's served me well for many years. Bought it to replace a $15 HF gun that started shooting flames (!) the second time I used it.
