    An oil gauge question

The sender's electrical resistance changes as oil pressure rises and falls. You will need to find out what those resistance value should be, and then measure the "output" of the sender with an ohm meter. If those numbers look good, then check the gauge itself using a selection of resistors in...

Brand Recommendations for front end components.

Please send me a link documenting a Chinese company's purchase of Moog from Federal Mogul/Tenneco. I know that Moog has a plant(s) in China, as well as in France, Great Britain, Germany, Taiwan, South Korea and many more countires. Thanks.

Brand Recommendations for front end components.

Moog parts from Rock Auto. Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings for control arm shafts and sway bars. Just be sure to use the grease in the kit. And if anyone tells you the ride will be rougher with poly bushings, well it's truck, not a Cadillac! And I seriously doubt if you'll even...

    Holley 3310-2

Sorry man. I thought you missed out on the carb when you said you were a day late and a dollar short! Sounds like you have the skills to go through it, so have fun and I hope you get it working like new. I bought its brother, an 750cfm 80508S, several years ago for $50. The guy had replaced...

    Holley 3310-2

A "-2" is a fairly old version, probably from back in the early 70s. The 3310 is up to at least "-12" now. That doesn't mean the old one is bad, but a lot of internal brass parts could be corroded, and small air and fuel passages clogged. Unless you're a carb guru, I think you did well to not...

    Old77's 1989 S10 tinkering project

Never really noticed before how much those things look like a mini square body. I wouldn't mind finding one with a 4.3 and manual trans.

Opinions on Ring and Pinion brand?

Real GM gears are the quietest, but expensive. When properly installed, they will easily last 200K miles. If you do some research, you'll find that Richmond gears are noisy, but good quality. SVL is a Dana/Spicer entry level brand, but they get good reviews on car & truck forums. Whatever...

Cutting down valve guides & reusing head bolts??

I agree, but I'd use new ones. Cheap insurance.

    New radio instal

Nice job! Wish I would have done that instead of cutting my dash to fit an NOS Alpine DIN radio that I had laying around. It was a real PITA, but at least it turned out well.

Lifting engine in place with carb studs?

I know it's done all the time, but I don't trust 5/16" bolts, especially in cast aluminum. And I'm not sure how you can tilt the engine.

Are cheap welding helmets any good? (recommendations?)

I bit the bullet and bought a mid-range Miller nearly 20 years ago. Compared to the cheapies of the day, it has more sensors, darkens faster, has a larger viewing area and more adjustability. Also, being Miller, I can probably still get parts for it.

    Pcv or not to pcv?

Even in the pre-PCV valve days, GM knew they had to get combustion blow-by gases out of the crankcase to reduce oil contamination and pre-mature wear on bearings, cam lobes, etc. So they used a road draft tube that dropped down in the air stream to pull a vacuum on the crankcase through the...

Open a complaint against him and ask for your money back. eBay and PayPal almost always side with the buyer.

Headers? worth the effort & cost?

I seriously doubt you will notice the difference, unless your heat riser (if your engine has one) is closed or there's some serious crush bends in the head pipe(s). I say this having installed three different kinds of headers on three different Chevy trucks with mild performance engines. Where...

    Rebuilt Cardone Crap

For sure! A1 Cardone stuff is second rate at best. Rebuilt AC/Delco parts are significantly better, even if it's rebuilt in Mexico. The rebuilt alternator on my old 69 C10 is still working great after nearly 20 years! If you've got an O'Reilly Auto Parts nearby, whatever brand they sell is...

Turns out putting the temp sensor in the intake really is no good

I use the port near the t-tat housing. That way I read the coolant temperature as it is flowing up from the heads into the radiator. So it's an AVERAGE coolant temperature, not cylinder head coolant temperature taken at one spot on one head. GM does not spec cylinder head coolant temp as far...

    LMC should be proud

I'll mostly second that. Some of the 1982 C10 parts I've bought from them that worked well: windshield wiper switch panel assy, heater/defroster/lever/switch assy, rear bumper and brackets, battery box, upper radiator mounting brackets, hood hinge deflector, diamond tailgate cap. Also, LMC...

    Power Brake pedal

Thanks, Custodian. Very good info. I like the idea of a wider pedal, and was thinking/hoping that it was closer to the floor, like GM cars of the 60-70s where pedal travel was much shorter than with manual brakes. I still remember the family's 62 Olds 88 where the brake pedal was not much...
