Gas spilling when filling up
If your truck did not come with any emissions equipment (vapor recovery, air pump, etc) then you fuel tank is vented to atmosphere (open) it is not a sealed system and you will always smell fuel in an enclosed space. AC Belt vibrations
If the system is functioning normally, and there is no abnormal noise when the compressor is engaged and the compressor isn't loose in it's brackets then, tighten the belt. If the belt is more than three years old replace it. -

Avs2 problems
Well, that manifold is a proper fit for the AVS so no worries on wether you have adapter issues or not. As others have said it sounds like you should focus on initial settings of the carb and verify those. Then search for vacuum leaks and make sure all ignition components are fresh and happily...- ASPEC

Sounds like a failed starter or a cracked flex plate that finally let go. Crappy timing? Sure, but it is a 35 year old truck and if the starter has ever been replaced at some point it would not be the same quality level as the original. At least it happened while you had it. Gas spilling out filler neck while driving! 1977 C-10
If fuel is getting past the fuel cap then you need to replace it with a proper new cap. That year should have a vapor recovery system and the fuel cap should only be vented into the tank when under vacuum, not to atmosphere.- ASPEC

Already read it... :-) it's how we got here. Very familiar with the replacement procedure as well but thank you. My dwell meter is probably older than most folks reading this. Gonna need to dig it out of my tool storage. Probably sitting next to my flathead valve spring compressor... :cool:- ASPEC

Really tight front brakes!
Depends on the length of hose and angle of the fittings. The hose has to be twisted enough to reduce the inner diameter of the hose, a "kink" if you will. The kink acts like a check valve, letting fluid go past when pressure is applied by the master cylinder but the caliper does not have the... -

Glad to know you found the problem. I don't think anyone brought this up so I will add one thing in case someone in the future has a similar question. If you leave the calipers hanging by the hose when servicing the bearings it is possible to lose track of the position of the caliper and turn... -

Non EEC fuel tank vent
I appreciate the response but this '74 2500 came from the factory with NO emissions systems. No evap, No cats, No air pump, etc... So it won't be the same as any model with an evap cannister.- ASPEC
