    Power lagging

That's because Q-jets need to be professionally modified to run big cams with them. That's probably one of the main reasons guys go with an after market carb.

    Bad Combo?

One thing we forgot is that you will need a fuel pressure regulator for the carb and Im not sure if there are any issues with the in tank fuel pump and a carb? Anyone ??? I would think that a fuel regulator would be all you need but I have never run a carb from the TBI tanks so im not sure.

    Bad Combo?

Definitely will need a set of headers for sure. IMO its worth spending the money on Stainless if its the right header. I put a set of stainless shorties on my shopping list :)

Yep I think that sounds like a good plan! No sense wasting money if you don't have to!

Best stock head and Aftermarket cam combo

Most guys don't pay $600 for a set of Vortecs. usually its $75 for a set from the wreckers. That's where they got there luster from on top of being great factory heads. If you could swap a set of Vortec heads on for less then $150 and get an immediate 50-100 HP wouldn't you do it?

    4" lift modifications

81 up SM465/208 combos sit in exactly the same spot as any automatic set up. The 4x4 adapter was lengthened or shortened to keep the transfer case in the same position regardless of what transmission was used. This made drive shafts more universal with only the rear end being the determining...

Post your experiences buying auto parts from summit racing and other places

WEll I just ordered some stuff from Summit and they had me all set up in like 4 min flat! And the shipping was half the cost that other companies want. You have to have your part#s ready though and you need to know exactly what you want, but that's the same any where you buy. I definitely am...

    Bad Combo?

WEll I wouldn't do anything with the gears until you have your motor all done and if it seems like it needs a little more torque then you could consider a 3:23 or 3;42 rear end.

    Bad Combo?

Yes but they will work fantastic with a 12-300-4 cam and he already has them. And yes some DIY porting can help them a great deal. Just like any head. Clean up the slag and sharp edges and gasket match the intake to the head. Just don't wreck the valve seats or its $ time
  11. M

    Bad Combo?

Yes it does have a vacuum advance which is just hooked to a vacuum port on the carb. No issue there. 3:42 would be an improvement at the very least. I guess it depends on tire size and your average speed you would like to travel. If you are a highway guy probably 3:42s if you are just a...

    Bad Combo?

With a carb and flat tappet cam(Idle-4500) you will make gobs of power off of idle. GOBS and GOBS! So you could wait on the gears but like I say just buy a used rear end with better gears for $200 or less, if you want to re gear. IMO the RV cam solid/flat tappet cam is the way to go. The...

    Bad Combo?

I wouldn't bother with a tranny swap unless yours blows up! If you did go with a 700r4 for some reason you would need to find an 88' and up 4L60 otherwise they are junk!
  14. M

    Bad Combo?

If it were me I would junk that whole TBI system. I guess you could sell it on ebay for $3-500. Then I would put a carb intake and a carb. Stock HEI dizzy(non TBI) and a Comp Cam. You could go with a roller cam(1500-5500) or a flat tappet hydraulic lifter(Idle-5000) run some shorty or long tube...

    Bad Combo?

Oh and you don't need to spend $2000 on a re gear. Just spend $200 on a complete new used axle, with the appropriate gearing like 3:42 or 3:73
  16. M

    Bad Combo?

First off unless you can buy a Q-jet that has had the fuel well plugs PERMANENTLY sealed, you will just be wasting your time! Next best option would be a street demon 625 cfm carb. Headers will kill low end torque unless you make loads of power. Or run shorty headers. Tri Y headers would be...

    Lifted 85 chevy

The Zone sway bar links are only $47

    Bad Combo?

If they are swirl port TBI heads they can be ported to work nicely. I like carbs too, for the reason stated earlier. 3:08s kinda makes it difficult for a street fun truck. Just simply adding some steeper gears would make it feel like you have an extra 50-100 HP

    Oil Leak Pissing Me Off

I can almost guarantee you its the oil sending unit. I have had this same issue before and could not figure it out. I looked and looked and could not see anything coming from the sensor but at the end of the day that's where it was coming from. just a dribble right down the back so you couldn't...

    Ford NP208 Interchange / 27 Spline Output Shaft Th400

Just noticed that it only has provision for the stamped tin torque converter cover. So its not a factory 4wd unit.

    Ford NP208 Interchange / 27 Spline Output Shaft Th400

Well there goes that idea. I thought all drive shaft slip yokes used the same 27 splines.
  22. M

    Ford NP208 Interchange / 27 Spline Output Shaft Th400

Im saying that a 2wd th400 transmission with a 6" tail shaft will have the 27 splines for the 2wd slip yoke. Cut that down to match the length of a 4wd out put shaft and voila! A 27 spline 4wd th400 ???

    Ford NP208 Interchange / 27 Spline Output Shaft Th400

I just figured that would be the most plausible thing as why would someone go to all the trouble of building a th400 with a custom 27 spline shaft? And then I remembered that all the driveshaft slip yokes are 27 splines regardless of what transmission it is.

Yep that's just about sums it up!

    Ford NP208 Interchange / 27 Spline Output Shaft Th400

I was wondering if its not a 2wd with a cut down output shaft ?
