    Bucket Seat Tutorial

Looks sharp. Great work! Question: do donor buckets have any mechanism to tilt forward for access to storage behind seats?

    LMC Dash Pad Supplier

Following this thread with interest. I doubt my 84 k30 dash pad can be saved. Too bent, cracked and warped a little. Expect complete replacement in its future. Meanwhile, dash rug hides a lot but doesn't look great. @WFarm are those bucket seat with center console stock for your k5? I'd like...

dual battery w/isolator and solar charging

Living on wheels since 2011 my experience base probably differs from many (most?) here. I've changed tack over this time but initially I had a different camper and truck than now. The trailer stayed hitched and plugged in to the truck since I would unload the motorcycle to get around between...

    2 post shop lift

I'm thinking about a 4-post lift for a storage unit so free standing is a MUST. Even if I could bolt a 2-post lift to the floor, many have overhead sync hardware. A friend has a 2-post lift with open tops and ramp plates before/after the chain box across the floor between the uprights. I sure...

    6.2L Exhaust Brake

Not much luck searching archives. I would love to hear from/about anyone who added an exhaust brake.

    vacuum pump-where to buy?

I just did a pod swap for my 84k30 6.2. Got the belt driven pump assembly for $119 from Amazon: Standard Motor Products Vacuum Pump - VCP108. Turned out to be back ordered so I had to wait several weeks. And I wasn't 100% sure its pod would be compatible. But free returns made it low risk. The...

So far I haven't found much on either lead. But thanks all the same.

    Fuel filter puzzle

I've been scratching my chin about the discrepancy between the WIF system as described in the service manual and what I'm finding on my truck. (Note: sections attached previously, post #5.) Special thanks to BlueOx for real world ground truth. Rereading 84 specs there's mention of standard...

    Any lead(s) for replacement screws?

    Fuel filter puzzle

Ah! So the WIF lamp means more than just water in fuel. It could mean filter restricted. Either way means service fuel filter. Which suggests better wording for the indicator but I suppose hindsight's 20/20. Thanks again!!

Attaching a few relevant pages on WIF info from 84ck service manual.

    Fuel filter puzzle

Thank you! I found the drain valve. That doesn't seem to leak. But I might could pull the draincock screw. Probably the same as the bleeder screw. See how they compare. I wonder if they can be replaced. Plastic could be worn. Hm That vacuum switch tidbit is particularly interesting. The vacuum...

    Fuel filter puzzle

So I'm bringing back an 84 k30. This past week was my first trip camping in the San Bernardinos. Going up it did okay. Coming down yesterday a leak developed. Apparently fuel from the box filter bleed port. I was concerned it might've been something more serious. But could it just be that the...

    Courtesy light/door switch question

Thanks so much! I'm rebuilding an 84 k30 and dome lights were an issue. The diagrams will help finish the work. One thing I did was convert to LED bulbs. The footlight works okay as is. The ceiling lamp is super bright now. Too bright for everyday use but when I want to read something (map, etc)...

Fuel filler issue. This can’t be right.

My problem was not unrelated. The fill hose on the passenger side was jury rigged by the previous owner. (There were reasons at the time and he since passed so I forgave him.) The hose rotation was off leaving a small plumbing trap. It only held a few spoonfuls of fuel but that didn't help. I...

Thanks. It runs good so I'll drive it but monitoring early and often. The vehicle had been stolen and recovered around 95 and garaged since then. I bought it from the widow of my buddy who passed away several years ago. He got flustered sorting it out since it was partially stripped when found...

Another clue? Noticed some fancy ID marks on the passenger side exhaust manifold while replacing motor mounts. As part of its prior turbo mod both manifolds were obviously replumbed from stock dual exhaust to a combined input to the turbocharger. Thus custom exhaust manifolds would've been part...

Followup: the oil pressure sender was bad. Bench testing with air compressor tool pressure and an ohm meter showed that it "opened up" at low pressure, resulting in pegged dash gauge. Replaced sender and dash needle now comparable to mechanical pressure gauge. I'm working through a list of...

Dang! Haynes Repair Manual doesn't cover diesel. Neither does Kevin Whipps' restoration book. Guess I'll return those and try to find something else. Meanwhile, maybe next week I can tear into it and try puzzling things out.

I got some pix today under the hood of the 84 k30 diesel with turbo. No documentation, just a 30 year old ad clipping stating it had "new 6.2 turbo, trans. & transfer case" at the time. No idea if "new" meant he (next to last owner) rebuild what he had or completely swapped out power train and...

Thanks guys. Two followup points. 1. The oil pump and relief valve are presumably in the sump so I'd pull the pan? (I ordered a service manual but it's not here yet.) 2. After I rustle up a gauge, any hint/clue where to plug in? Thanks again!
