Nice! I love the GM six cylinder engine, it was in my very first car way back when I was a youngster.

Should this new guy buy this '85?

    Disappearing coolant

Was the engine hot when the compression test was done? I would also suspect head gasket or crack.

    Engine identification

It’s a 350 block, 160hp, 185hp, etc… really not any difference. 2 barrel vs 4 barrel etc.. Check the head casting numbers also. From here you’ll have to disassemble it to see what’s inside.

    Engine identification

You will have to use all the info you have available, casting number, casting date and the stamped pad. Google, several sites will have a lot of info. V is Flint Michigan, the next four numbers are most likely the month & day. I don’t know about JC…. Sometimes the vehicles VIN would be there...

    Engine identification

The numbers/letters you’re looking for are stamped on the block, not cast in. This pic shows where it was originally, front passenger side of the block… but if the motor has been rebuilt it was probably machined off when the block was surfaced.

Got a weird idea for a truck bed

Ohh, I love playing with designs… :) How about more of an angle, with some rad tail lights in the capped ends?

    Rim fitment for 1978 K20

There are a lot of options available, steel, chrome, etc.. also depending on how big of a tire you might want. I‘m building a ‘78 K20 and I’ll be putting on a steel 17” X 9”, back spacing hasn’t been determined yet but it won’t be outrageous with the tires sticking way out past the fenders...

Pinion angle for lowered SWB Square?

Years ago I built a 1980 Pro Street C10, it’s my avatar. Lowered with frame notched, tubs etc.. Ford nine inch on custom built leaf packs & hangers. I set it all up on the wheels and tires, the last welds I made were to tack the spring perches on with 4 degrees of pinion angle. Then removed the...

    Question about headers

Back in my much younger days I used Schoenfeld headers, “Step” types, 1 5/8” at the primary then they step up to 1 3/4” 6-8” down stream. It’s the best of both worlds. Monte Carlo & Chevelle fit. Now at my age, a nice set of cast iron manifolds suit me fine. The Hooker models will be on the...

    Engine removal tool

I’ve used a carb plate before, just make sure you use the correct length bolts for plenty of thread contact. i prefer the two bolt brackets diagonally on the intake though.

Should I trade for a Square?

In my opinion when it comes to snow plowing the condition of the transmission is the most critical.. it’s really tough on them.

What have you done to your square lately??

Picked up a ‘77 bed to replace the original on my ‘78. Its a great piece with only some rust on the left side, way less damage than mine. Got it on FB Marketplace, the seller was a great older guy, we had a lot in common. Loading it in the pics.

How much are these push bars worth?

Wow, those bring back memories! Back in the ‘80s I made over a dozen of that style, some for full size trucks, some for S-10s. Most were made for the guys I worked with, that’s where I got the steel. i believe I sold one or two for $75.

I guess I give up on the windows

Back in the mid ‘90s I had a sweet ‘86 Silverado with power windows. When the original window motors started slowing down I had the exact same issue as you with replacements, way too slow. I went through all the track alignment, felt etc.. nothing helped. After trying several different sources...

    Hey, how are ya

I’m an old retired electrician located in KY. I’ve had many trucks over the years, Chevys & Fords. My elderly father has had a long bed Chevy Silverado since the ‘80s, I believe it’s a K20, but could be a K30. It’s been a farm truck for the last 20 years or so. I’m going to do a frame off...
