One other observation: If you look on your invoice this is actually "Gold Medal Spec", not "Metal". "Medal" is the correct spelling for an award, like an Olympic Gold Medal, or a bronze medal. "Metal" is the material they are likely made from. I wouldn't normally say anything - especially...

I may have known the Heritage Center was relocating. It was too small before it even opened, with most of the vehicles being stored at off site locations. Which was kind of cool because they would rotate through the displays so the odds were good that you were seeing something different with...

Bingo! In looking at your invoice - your truck was built in Janesville and shipped to a place called "Classic Conversions" in LA. That's probably where all the cool stuff got added. K

Just an observation: For discussion purposes the actual RPO code is the first three characters only, ie YH3, 400 and N67. The additional three characters are "Exception Control Letters", or ECL, which provide a bit more detail regarding the RPO. They have only been decoded for Corvette (and...

    8' bed question

Right. Cab and Chassis were available as 30903 (basically a pickup with box delete, RPO ZW9 "base body); 31003 and 31403. Three different wheelbases. K

Ah - "CC" = cab and chassis. I was thinking "Crew Cab". Carry on - K

This is not correct. Link to Heritage Center Doc: https://www.gm.com/content/dam/company/no_search/heritage-archive-docs/vehicle-information-kits/chevrolet-trucks/1986-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf Refer to the attachment referenced a couple times earlier in the thread which show no cats, even for...

I see the letter is from Gerry Compagnoni. I used to work with him. I think there were four brothers with that same last name. It was like you couldn't throw a rock around here without hitting a Compagnoni. K

    1985 Headlight Question

Those actually aren't the lights from 1985. That's a 1988 - 1991 square (R/V) front end that someone has grafted onto your truck. Your original front end would look like mine (only GMC rather than Chevy). As far as the changeover: I think you'll need the radiator support and all the...

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

Yes - there was Federal Emissions, California emissions and High Altitude emissions (those were the choices). The content for each of those is explained in the packet. You'll notice cats were not required for any of those over 8500 lb. K

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

Doesn't matter. All square pickups, even one ton doolies with 11000 and 12000 lb gvws , are considered "Light Duty" pickups. K

Did this K20 come factory with catalytic converter?

You have to determine your GVW. Less than 8500 lb GVW - you need cats. 8600 lbs - no cats. And here is the documentation from GM (see page 39 of 188): Link...

When I redid my red truck I did the whole thing in the driveway. Never made it into the garage. Build thread: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=342926 That was from May to September of 2009; two houses ago. K

    Mystery hole on fenders

No - only adhesive. The early versions had clips in the "cove" areas of the fenders, where there was concern the adhesive might pull away. Eventually there was an initiate to eliminate as many drilled holes as possible, to prevent rust, and those clips and holes were removed. K

Rather than "storing" the original steel Chevelle front bumper I mounted it to the shelf and put some bulbs in it, so they can light up. K

Do we have a show us your shop thread?

Time for an update, I see - We moved last May, from the Detroit metro area to closer to Lansing. Part of a master plan to be closer to daughters/grandkid and also downsizing in preparation for retirement. It's a smaller home, with an upstairs garage for the daily, and then a lower "walkout"...

    Mystery hole on fenders

Correct. Hole for body trim. The holes eventually went away because they were a spot where rust could originate. K
