Anyone ever seen a dash like this in a 73?

Does that pickup have drip rails above the doors? I parted out an early '73 many years back that had a small pedal for the brake even though it was an automatic and it didn't have drip rails above the doors. I don't recall the dash, but I have seen medium duty trucks with that dash also.

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

I think @DoubleDingo is our resident 6 cylinder expert. Pretty sure there are aftermarket manifolds for single carbs as well.

What have you done to your square lately??

I'd like to find a K30 crew cab single wheel....and put a long bed step side on it to be unique.

    350

Gear ratio and tire size are important factors. If you have 3.08's in it and plan on running bigger tires, then OD might actually hurt you. I'd say put 3.73's in it if it doesn't already have them and run 31" tires with a NV4500. If it has 3.08 or 3.42's, and you don't want to do a gear swap...

    "Hypothetical" Question (Wink Wink)

Also, for those of us who live in areas where we have snow in the winter, the weight distribution of a suburban makes them excellent winter vehicles. They are animals in the snow and have better traction on ice than pickups. I typically don’t even use 4x4 unless it is deep snow.

    "Hypothetical" Question (Wink Wink)

That is a great looking ‘burb! Well done my friend, well done. I second @Vbb199 on the awesomeness of squarebody suburbans. They really are a great all around vehicle.

    "Hypothetical" Question (Wink Wink)

3.42 gears would probably work pretty well for what you are looking to do. It is a BBC, so you have to be realistic about fuel economy. Swapping the gears is probably the most economical plan and it will get your cruising RPM’s down some and should improve the mileage some.

    1981 k30 crew cab dually

Do you have a job? I got my '68 Chevy pickup when I was 14. I spent my summers mowing as many lawns as I could and winters shoveling snow to save money. Little by little, I was able to do improvements to that pickup. I still have it 28 years later. Follow the advice from some of these...

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

You will be fine with the OD with either tire size choice with the 292 torque curve. If you didn't have the OD, the 292 probably wouldn't be your friend over 65 mph. ;). I would think you will get better than 12 mpg if with the OD. I'm excited to hear how it does since I have never seen a...

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

I totally get it. We have had a couple C50 trucks with 292's and a few pickups with 250's in them over the years. I'm really excited to hear how your project turns out and I think you are definitely on the right track. The torque curve of a 292 is awesome and will make a great engine in...

    Double Dingo's 1965 3/4 Ton "Crusty Biscuit"

I have heard of people using special rods in 292’s so you can use pistons out of a 250. They are lighter and evidently doing that allows the 292 to handle more RPM’s.

What have you done to your square lately??

Early Qjets are 750 cfm and the later ones are like 795/800 cfm. Properly tuned, they are really hard to beat for an all-around carb.

What have you done to your square lately??

Ever consider putting a Qjet back on it? The small primaries are good for throttle response and better economy when driving around town and then the big secondaries are there when you need the power. I have a Qjet on my 454 powered motorhome and it gets 7-8 mpg pushing that 10,000 lb pig down...

    Flat towing a Suburban?

We actually use it for camping more than fishing the past couple years. Pretty versatile unit. Haul the kids bikes in it and all the “stuff” we seem to need for camping with kids and then they can sleep in it if the weather isn’t conducive to tenting. It is insulated with a furnace and a stove...

    Flat towing a Suburban?

Yeah, I’m not worried about wind resistance either. I pull my toy hauler ice fishing house behind the motorhome quite a bit and don’t even really know it is there. The braking concern is something I need to do more research on. I know there are auxiliary brake kits a guy can get for toads.

Hey Vince, I need to borrow that 502 for the summer camping season. You can have it back in the fall. ;)

    Flat towing a Suburban?

I googled 1990 V1500 suburban weight and it said 4700 lbs. I would imagine curb weight would probably be close to 5k.

    Noob

I get what you are saying and I think that is why most of us are here. We love the simplicity of the old squares and there is something about driving one that just “feels” right. They are refined enough that they are comfortable and reasonably quiet with decent heaters (compared to the pickups...

    That is my biggest concern.

    Flat towing a Suburban?

Yeah, I should run it across the scale and see for sure. I pull my toy hauler ice fishing house with the motorhome quite a bit loaded with stuff and I don’t hardly know it is back there, but I’m sure it is lighter than the ‘burb.

    Flat towing a Suburban?

Thanks for the replies. We have 5 boys, so our family doesn’t fit in smaller SUV’s....thus why I was toying with the idea of towing the suburban.

    Flat towing a Suburban?

I have been thinking about towing our Suburban behind our motorhome when we go camping so that we have a vehicle to drive around if needed. I have some questions though. First off, would there be any concerns with the transfer case if towing at highway speeds for long distances? I have towed...

    New "Old" Daily - 8.1L

What an awesome Suburban. We had 2 trucks with 8.1's in them and loved them. One was an '03 Chevy 1 ton 4x4 cab and chassis with the 6 speed manual and the other was an '04 GMC 1 ton 4x4 cab and chassis with the Allison. Both were set up with gin poles and winches for the oilfield. The GMC...
