    CARBURETOR DATED

I have a Quadrajet with a four hole spacer and it’s tuned the best I could do myself. If it’s only been sitting a couple of days I just pump it twice, and hit the switch and it starts right up. If it’s been sitting for a week or more I may have to give a 2nd round of two pumps, probably because...

    Tire size confusion.

After GM switched from 16.5” to 16” tires, the standard size for HD trucks was usually 235/85R16E or 245/75R16E. Your glove box sticker should list the tire size for your truck. My ‘75 8400 GVW truck had 9.50x16.5/D tires when delivered, and they were 31” in diameter. The 245/75R16 is about...

    What headers will fit a Blueprint 454 in a 1987 K10/V10

I have Blueprint heads on my SBC and it was a PIA to fit spark plug wires with stock iron exhaust manifolds because of the difference in port spacing. Not easy to grind for clearance once the manifolds are installed. I just swapped to Sanderson headers for my SBC and they definitely fit better...

    Carb gasket comparison question!

Check to see what passages those holes line up with in the carburetor. If the carburetor plate is solid in those areas, then the gasket is fine. If there are holes that line up, then you need to get the matching gasket.

    87 receivers

Some of the older hitches were designed in three pieces so they would fit multiple brands of trucks. There was a standard crossbar and receiver, and it bolted into left and right brackets that were unique to the truck brand. It seems like that design might be modified fairly easily to fit the...

    Gas hog

My '75 K25 has a 350 with aluminum heads, 213/[email protected] retrofit roller cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, and a Quadrajet that has been tuned to run a little better with the cam. I have stock 31" height tires, 4.10 gears, and my NP203 is still full time 4WD. RPM is about 2800-3000 at 60 MPH...

    Non EEC fuel tank vent

My ‘75 has three port sending units, and both sides go to a T fitting. That fitting connects to a metal line that runs up to the engine compartment. At the engine compartment it connects to the vapor canister, and that originally vented into a dedicated port on the carburetor. In the engine...

73 C10 Rear End Small Lift Needed

Shackles are easy, but not good for stability and load carrying unless they are really stiff. Blocks are probably a better choice, but more work to install.

Coolant Hose Popped Off the Thermostat

First thing I’d do is to replace the radiator cap. If the pressure release is bad it might let it get too high. I think the stock cap is rated at about 16 lbs pressure for most SBC’s. Also make sure it pushes coolant into the overflow when hot, and then draws it back in as the engine goes...

    RETRO-Mod: Jeep intermediate steering shaft

I bought the Borgeson steering shaft and thought I had a similar problem. Turned out to be a non-issue, so maybe the solution will work on yours. Called them and they told me to pull that black rubber bellows down the shaft to expose the slip joint underneath. On the bottom of the shaft there...

Help With Parking Break Dash Light Staying On

Check the small switch on the parking brake pedal mechanism. It may be broken, or not screwed on tight. Proportioning valve can also turn on the light, but it usually only happens when you press the power brake pedal.

    78 K-10 Dual Tank Install

Saw your posts, but I’m not sure if you have a question about the dual tanks or are trying to post an answer. AFAIK, the old 6 port solenoid with only a single electrical terminal is still not available. Switching to the multi-wire 6 port solenoid requires some new wiring, but then you can just...

Can I use this hole for filling oil?

PCV always need an "in" port in one valve cover and an "out" port in the other valve cover. The PCV pulls constant vacuum toward the base of the carburetor and draws air and moisture out of the engine crankcase. The pop-up mechanism inside the PCV valve controls how much air is pulled in...

    Bare Hands

I try to use nitrile gloves as much as I can for drivetrain work, but have to use the large HD gloves from Harbor Freight so that they last through some wrenching. The lighter weight nitrile gloves tore too easily, and the smaller sizes are a PIA to get on and off. I use fabric gloves from HD...

    Two piece front drive shaft

Based on parts from RockAuto, you need a 23 7/8” drive shaft, and your old one is probably 29 1/2”, measured from center of one u-joint to center of other u-joint. A new one for MT is about $400, so finding a shop to shorten yours is probably a lot cheaper. Also budget for new u-joints...

Can I use this hole for filling oil?

You just need to put a rubber grommet insert in each of the holes. It might take a little experimenting, because there is one size grommet that fits well on a PCV valve on the driver side, and a slightly larger (inside diameter) rubber grommet for the breather on the passenger side. Some of...

Newbie needs help, replace starter now some gauges don’t work

Large starter lug should have the main battery cable and at least two smaller cables on it. The two smaller cables are the feed to the alternator BAT terminal, and the power to the junction on the firewall next to the brake booster. They both have a fusible link on the end that connects to...

    Intermittent steering wander?

Have you checked to see that you get an equal number of turns of the steering wheel turning full lock left to right? If the steering box is not centered when installed it will not have natural centering of the wheels and the steering linkage when you drive straight ahead. It will look fine...

Distributor will hit edelbrock 3764 intake

Also, when you "move" the #1 cylinder on the cap, the firing order is still the same, so all the other wires on the cap have to move the same number of places on the cap. The cap is indexed to the metal rim of the distributor so that it only reinstalls in one orientation.

    Front end noise

My truck with NP203 started making loud clicking noises (not a clunk), and it turned out to be the u-joints (rusted, roller bearings had metal in metal) and the centering yoke in the front driveshaft CV joint. The CV joint has a spring-loaded centering yoke in between the u-joints, and it keeps...

    CARBURETOR DATED

Some of the basic Edelbrock intakes, like the Performer, are drilled for both spreadbore and squarebore patterns, so you can swap without using any adapter. GM also recommends always using an insulating spacer (although the stock Quadrajet spacer is only about 3/8” thick). Using a fuel pump...

    CARBURETOR DATED

Sounds like it needs a minor adjustment, not a full rebuild. With a warm engine you can easily get too much fuel for a reliable hot start. Try just leaving your foot off the pedal and cranking it if the engine is warm/hot. The newer Edelbrock AVS 2 gets a lot of high marks for simple...

RockAuto- 4x4 front drive shaft, '81 K20 -Rock Auto

I replaced my entire front driveshaft years ago, from a place called Driveshaft Specialists in San Antonio. I lived there, so it was local, and it worked great. Last year I started getting loud clicking noises and determined it was the universal joints in the CV joint of the front driveshaft...

Drop In Voltage from Windows and AC on

I had similar symptoms when my alternator was going bad. With lights and blower on it would drop down to about nine volts at idle, but went to about 12-13 volts when I turned them off. Swapped in a rebuilt 12si 94 amp alternator and it fixed the problem.

After installing aftermarket tach the truck will not start

I speak from experience - if that tach lead connected to the HEI is grounded, it stops the engine from starting. In my case ( on a Ford E150) I had run the tach wire too close to the clutch linkage and a worn spot on the wire grounded on the linkage. I could push down the clutch and the...
