    O2 sensor question

I have an Innovate AFR gauge, and the “control box” mounts on a frame rail under my truck - supposed to be weatherproof. From there I ran the wires up to the gauge and soldered them inline. Important tip. Find a good solid ground point, and make sure all gauge and wiring grounds to that...

    Door wiring conduits

I got the conduit from a newer truck at the pick and pull, and just used the dimples as a guide to drill the holes. I do remember that for some reason the fittings on the two ends of the conduit are a slightly different diameter.

    1978 chevy 350 issue

If it has not run in years the lifters may have lost fluid, and are too stuck to refill and pump up. As already mentioned, they may recover if you run it for a while, but YMMV. I would just plan for a cam and lifters change, and for a DD I would stick with one in the range of about 210-214 @...

Should the windshield wipers park on a 1974?

They park, and intermittent was not an option until later years.

    1974 c10 didn’t start-fuel problem?

All the shop manuals are posted on this site, so you could just download them and print pages when you need them. The GM shop manual has a wiring diagram for the dual tank solenoid (under the truck) but not much more detail about the system. It’s basically just a bunch of hard line...

    High Pressure Fuel pump install

Another more complicated solution is to swap in a Blazer or Suburban tank back in the spare tire area, and get rid of the dual tanks. No more switch required, only one fuel pump, and some of the Sub tanks hold a lot of fuel. However, your spare then has to be up in the bed. I’m sure you can...

First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

I had the same Quadrajet on my ‘75 GMC, and that extra hose is definitely the gas tank vent and vapor recovery. The original carburetor is a unique design that uses a port on the carburetor to control gas tank venting without having any other external control valve for vapor recovery. In most...

    High Pressure Fuel pump install

Another option is to use a surge tank or fuel sump with built in fuel pump in the engine compartment. Then just leave the existing dual tank solenoid and lines in place. - Feed the surge from the existing mechanical fuel or from a low pressure electric pump. - surge tank holds about a liter of...

Fresh Air vents with factory A/C?

The A/C trucks defaulted to having the kick panel vent closed (it is spring loaded), and the HVAC drew fresh air in from the cowl above and fed it to the blower motor. The kick panel was not designed to provide direct fresh air like a non A/C truck. When the A/C is in max/recirculate mode, it...

Pro Flo 4 with Delphi FE0114 or ACDelco EP381

Scoggins Dickey still lists it at about $60. However, they have a complicated explanation for getting a shipping estimate. Seems like it comes directly from a 3rd party supplier.

    K5 Blazer values… possibly buying 86 k5

The hardest work for backyard DIY is body work, so if it doesn't have any significant rust it should be definitely worth $6k. All the mechanical work (including power train swaps) can be done with a fairly small amount of standard tools if you have the space to work. It is not a highly...

Square body chevy truck gear ratio

Try one of the rpm calculators and play with gear ratios until you get the highway rpm you want. I have 4.10 gears and stock 31” tires. IIRC, it runs about 2800-3000 rpm at 60 mph, and I usually don’t drive faster than about 65. It’s kind of “busy” at that speed, but it runs smooth and I’m...

    No accessories power

I agree, switch may be out of adjustment. Another common problem is that the small rack on the end of the key cylinder is cracked, and its not pulling the rod up and down the column properly. When you turn the key it moves a toothed rack on the end of the lock cylinder, and that rack pulls a...

Old man constantly asked to drop his truck.Any stock height C10s left in the world??

I think it looks really goofy to drop a relatively stock truck. It does not improve the look, and serves no purpose. YMMV

    Faulty rigged

Assuming you still want dual tanks - The six port solenoids with only a single power terminal have been unavailable for several years. If you can’t find a NOS solenoid, then the best choice is to switch to the newer version with a six wire connector. There are articles on the net that explain...

Alt Replacement Options? A bit confused.

94 amp 12si is very easy to find, either rebuilt or new. However, mine has a v-belt pulley, so my Lester number (Lester is a standard cross reference number system for alternators) won’t work for your application. When I upgraded from a 10si I figured mine out using info from the Mad...

First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

Two port fuel pump works fine, but might be a little more prone to vapor lock in really hot weather. If you haven't replaced a fuel pump before, check out a few sites that explain how to hold the rod up while you insert the pump lever. Car sites will mention that some SBC blocks have a bolt...

First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

AVS2 has a great reputation for excellent driveability. Seems to work better than the old 1406. Does seem like a flaky fuel pump. Is it a 3 port fuel pump, with one rubber line in, one rubber line to a fuel return, and a hard line running up to the carburetor? Most of the time the factory...

ANYONE USED VORTEC HIGH SWIRL HEADS ON THEIR GEN-I SBC?

Are you sure about exactly what you have? Vortec heads and swirl are usually not used in the same sentence (although the Vortec port may have a swirl). Swirl port was an older head design, but Vortec heads were used about 1996-2000 on the L31 SBC roller block.

    Trailer wiring

A guess at two possibilities/guesses, considering that maybe these vehicles were wired for to serve an “international” market. However, very odd that the dealer would not have a wiring diagram. - wiring of plugs for European trailer power/lighting is different, so I assume color coding of...

    Really tight front brakes!

Process I recall is: - Slowly turn the rotor, and at the same time snug the nut down with a wrench to seat the bearing (I think the book lists a torque setting to use) - loosen up the nut about a 1/2 to 1 turn with the wrench, and then tighten it down again with your fingers - turn the nut just...

First real drive! Not tragic but not good. I think I need carb advice.

Look at the picture of my ‘75 Quadrajet and you can see the number (7045583) on the throttle linkage side. In the other picture you can see 3 ports on the front. - small fitting on the right goes to the vacuum advance - slightly larger port with a raised ridge is for the vapor canister (I...

Edelbrock carbs on a 350 sm blk

I have had an AFR gauge for quite a while, and it’s really useful. Start out by checking the transfer slot exposure to ensure it has a square shape at idle, install the carburetor, and adjust mixture screws for best vacuum and/or rpm. Don’t get too fixed on getting a specific idle AFR, since...

Edelbrock carbs on a 350 sm blk

A frequent complaint with the Edelbrock is a bog when transitioning from steady rpm cruise to quick acceleration. Changing the hole position of the accelerator pump rod is one possible fix, but may be ineffective. However, the bog can often be resolved by switching to a higher vacuum rated...
