Fitment of 81 body parts to 73-80 frame

I did the opposite, when the front of my 81 1/2 ton, was damaged badly, I put an older style, (1978), front clip on it. I don't remember having any alignment problems. Everything fit fine.

Rear bumper difference 73-80 vs 81–

The brackets for the front are different. If he didn't modify the frame horns, factory-style mounts for your style are what you need. If he did though, then, if memory is correct, you will need two of your stock front brackets per side, (the ones that bolt to the front of the frame horns), and...

Hope you were able to replace it with an older Squarebody.

    14 bolt gear ratio?

I would change to a 4:10 and put in a 700R4 if you want better mileage, that way you will have a gas-saving OD at speed, but shorter gearing at lower speeds for faster acceleration, but keep in mind that if you have to have a shop do the work, it will take you several years to get back the money...

Am I crazy to expect more than 10 MPG

IF you drive at about 50 - 55, you might get 12 MPG, but typically, 10 MPG is about normal for your setup, assuming you drive at 70 - 75.

New sbc 400 blueprint engine keeps fouling plugs with gas

Also, you have a racing engine that you are trying to use in a street-driven vehicle, so your plugs are going to occasionally foul no matter what, unless you take it out and race it.

New sbc 400 blueprint engine keeps fouling plugs with gas

I think that carb is just too damn big. You can try 1 step hotter plugs, but if that doesn't help, it has to be the carb. It might be jetted for track, rather than street use. Do not try to go hotter than 1 step. You might burn holes in the pistons.

New sbc 400 blueprint engine keeps fouling plugs with gas

850 CFM sounds too big for the street. You should try Tri-Power or dual quads instead of a single giant. James

Why scrap it, when you can sell it for more than what a junk yard will give you?

    New guy here...77 c20 292 NEED HELP

Spray WD40 around that manifold runner and see if the engine speed changes any. If it does not, remove the valve cover, and with a remote starter switch, crank the engine and watch the rockers for #1 and #2 cylinders, to see if they move as much as the rest.

455 Olds in place of 454 in 76 GMC (frame to engine mounts?)

A pre 72 engine will run and hide from a later, smog-controlled lower compression milder cam engine, but you might have to use dished pistons, as the 69 Olds engine had over 10 - 1 compression, and they don't sell 100 octain anymore. It might ping bad in today's pump gas.

Do you a 10 bolt rear or a 12 bolt?

    Can't identify the engine!

You can put a 4:10 in it, but with automatic, that will be too low. I would put a 3:73 in it.

    About me.

I'll take some with my wife's cell phone. It doesn't really look like a 73, as it has a 77 - 80 type grille, and 1980 round headlight frame. It isn't pretty right now, pretty ratty looking. I do have nice new tires and good hubcaps on though.

    About me.

And, if your diesel is late 70s, not 1980, it is smog exempt here in California, which means you could put anything you want in it. Even a 455 from a 442 Hurst W30!

I gave it and the mounts to my brother. He wants to soup it up and put it in a hot rod 58 Olds!

    Can't identify the engine!

If you gear the rear end down ie if 2.73 now, try 3.36. That should give you a welcome boost in pulling power.

    Ls swap questions

A 5.3 is smaller than your 350, so it won't have the low-RPM torque as a 350. You might have to gear down, or else it might feel boggy off the line.
