    HT350 and Overdrive Question

100% what Nick said. The big benefit of the 700R4 over the TH350, especially when towing(even outside of OD) is the ability to have the converter locked up. Locking the converter will GREATLY reduce the amount of heat you are generating during normal driving. I have a Tru-Cool 40k on my 2011...

    1980 Roundeye GMC

    1984 k10 700r4 won't shift out of 2nd please help!

I put a question on the group looking for a good shop, so if you join you'll likely see it on the top of the feed. Hopefully there will already be some responses on there. Its a solid group and the admin is a great guy(BJ Parden) who has lived in the area for a very long time. The only thing I...

    1984 k10 700r4 won't shift out of 2nd please help!

ooof, that's not good. I'm just up in Salem. There is a facebook group you should check out called Eugene / Springfield Square bodies. There's quite a few members in the area and I'm sure someone on there could recommend a good transmission shop that is experienced with 700R4's to help you out...

    1980 Roundeye GMC

Nice... looks like maybe that wasn't how it was originally though. Lots of guys around here get a square headlight one and the first thing they do is pull the bezels and swap to round headlights. Do you have the SPID sheet in the glove compartment still? The front bumper has been swapped to an...

    1984 k10 700r4 won't shift out of 2nd please help!

Not sure why I didn't notice this before... but your truck is the same color scheme as mine... and you guys are also in Oregon  Where are you guys located? What shop have you been using for your trans work? It really sounds like they don't know what they are doing(NOT uncommon, especially...

    1984 k10 700r4 won't shift out of 2nd please help!

It's very common for the needle, or link cable, or plastic guide to break to the indicator. Any of these breaking will cause the needle to no longer move when you move the shift lever.

    K2500 Lug nut torque

The proper torque value is directly related to the stud diameter. All of the 3/4-1 tons had the same 9/16" diameter stud, so they should all have the same torque. Standard torque for a 9/16-18 steel fastener is generally 120-140lb-ft... so there's that. I usually give it 2-3 ugga-duggas

Varajet Idle stop solenoid part number

That 214-2138 is the one for a quadrajet.

Varajet Idle stop solenoid part number

Yep. As long as ignition is applied it is holding it up. Thats also how the idle solenoid on my 1980 quadrajet is. The signal that engages the AC compressor also engages the solenoid to raise the idle RPM while the compressor is active.

Varajet Idle stop solenoid part number

I think you have that backwards. Holds it open when running. When ignition power is applied it pushes the throttle open to keep it running at the appropriate position. When the ignition is shut off it retracts and allows the throttle blades to snap all the way shut to prevent run-on(dieseling).

    Blown head gasket questions

I didn't... which is why I was putting that on there. He was replying to rustypiles question about when the last time he did a tuneup was. Got to be careful with sarcastic comments like that, especially with a new member that obviously isn't all that familiar with these things and could take a...

    Blown head gasket questions

Or a cracked head, or a bad intake manifold gasket can also cause this if it blows between the coolant passage and the runner for #1 or #7 instead of into the valley.

    Pulling Sucks--2001 Suburban 3/4 ton--6.0

I just finished assembling the 6.2 for our 2011 Suburban. It currently has the 5.3 and we pull a 6400lb Keystone Crossfire. I get about 6-8mpg currently and the 5.3 is generally just not happy(but I'm also getting garbage mileage unloaded so it's likely just a tired engine issue). I got the L9H...

    Big 10 Catalytic Converter, lol.

In 1980 the standard 3/4 tons also ran into needing them due to the GVWR change. That was the reason for the special high gross weight rating RPO that became available at that time. Mine is one of the 8600GVWR K20's that were made around that time... no EGR, no cats.

350 vortec 5.7 lower intake leaking vacuum?? Help please

If you use regular permatex you can't start it up for 24 hours. I use the 90 minute "right stuff" in a tube and it works WAY better. No leaks or seapage even several years later and you can start the engine up 90 minutes after application. The GM "threadlocker" that is called out earlier in this...

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

No, they CAN flow UP TO 750cfm. The good thing about a quadrajet is that the primaries are tiny and give good drivability and efficiency at the low rpm, low throttle, conditions that you will be in 99% of the time. The design of the secondary lets it flow as much as it needs on the top end. On a...

350 vortec 5.7 lower intake leaking vacuum?? Help please

The bolts are not torque to yield... not sure where you got that from. They do not need to be replaced and are not one time use. It looks like you put a ton of RTV on there under the gasket? Don't ever do that... it will more often than not cause a massive leak. The rubber O-rings in the gasket...

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

The only difference on a big block truck for you suspension wise would be a bit heavier front spring. If you have a Big 10 or the F44 front spring option, you would have that heavier spring in there already. The big block weighs about 200lbs more than the small block... so you'll feel the...

Small block to big block swap. What do i need to know?

That's a 454 from a 79 Pickup. Unless you swapped the heads and/or the cam out... its going to be a low compression dog and won't be spinning up past about 4500rpm anyways. 600CFM will be plenty. The only thing you should need is to modify the exhaust to connect to the headers on the big block...

Rochester Carb tune ; Which is best method?

I have a timing light with built in tach, so I have always used lean drop... even with a holley.
  22. Bextreme04

Rochester Carb tune ; Which is best method?

You should end up in generally the same area with both methods. Lean drop is easier and more precise if you have access to a tach. If you don't have access to a tach, a vacuum gauge is generally easier to find and cheaper.

Rochester Carb tune ; Which is best method?

I use this tool. I have newer design hex head idle mixture screws on my quadrajet that I put in when I rebuilt it using a kit for my model number from Cliff. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072K31TJJ/ This is the tool I use, it also has the double D socket. It makes it much easier to adjust the...
